Urghhhh. This quote seems to have reared its ugly head again (in my life at least, twice on fb and once on IG) .

Clearly Ms. Moss has never eaten a millionaires shortbread from the M&S café...

I'd never say it to my kids mind you!

Zaphodsotherhead · 21/04/2017 15:17

I'm ideal weight for my height and I'm not skinny. I've got dumpy thighs and I'm sort of roly-poly shaped.

Who do I complain to? (I shall call them as soon as I've finished this baguette with cheese...)

Gooseygoosey12345 · 21/04/2017 15:19

Nope sorry, would rather be fat and eat cake. I'm lucky enough that I don't seem to put on weight (yet) but honestly I love food too much to care. Not junk food, just really hearty meals, if it means I'm a bit fatter than I would like so be it Grin

IAmAmy · 21/04/2017 15:20

Nothing tastes as good as the double cheeseburger with cheese covered fries this quote has reminded me I'll be eating later. Except the pizza I'll be having tomorrow.

Iris65 · 21/04/2017 15:20

I also agree. I love the feeling of being slim. My DP describes me as having an 'anorexic personality' which is quite accurate I think. I had anorexia many years ago and still have episodes of food and weoght obsession.
So although I agree I don't think that my agreement is anything to be proud of.

Reow · 21/04/2017 15:20

Cheese on toast
Yorkshire puds
Beef wellington
Gu millionaire dessert
Pizza
Bangers, mash and gravy
Chips and curry sauce
Chicken tikka dansak
Chianti
Champers
Gin

There you go - tell them they're clearly fucking wrong.

originalbiglymavis · 21/04/2017 15:23

Proper chips with grated cheese (and ketchup). Mmmmmmmmm.

senua · 21/04/2017 15:24

I much prefer (I think Liz Hurley's) 'I want a small bottom more than I want that cake'.

Delia Smith has "is it worth the calories?" So indulge in a few squares of Valrohna by all means but don't pig out on a value-pack of budget 'chocolate' and then hate yourself.

IAmAmy · 21/04/2017 15:26

I have never hated myself after eating, except for not saving some more for the next day.

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 21/04/2017 15:29

I am skinny. Very skinny in fact, thanks to illness. It sucks. I'm always cold, cannot lie on my side and can only DTD in certain positions as my bones dig into OH. Clothes look shit on me too. Quite frankly, even a three day old marmite butty would taste better than being skinny feels.

GloriaGilbert · 21/04/2017 15:29

Just because it's trite doesn't mean it's not true. Wink

user1484578224 · 21/04/2017 15:29

Nothing tastes as good as being well in the head and not obsessing about food and constantly yo yo dieting.

AliceKlar · 21/04/2017 15:31

Well I'd disagree from my experience.I had anorexia between 17 and around 22. I was skinny but felt bloody awful. No energy, freezing cold, nails went blue even on a normally cool day etc. It just struck me that being skinny (I was about 6 st) was absolutely not with the misery and i gradually started eating adequately again. I've been between 8 and whatever weight i am these days - prob around 9.8 and feel a hell of a lot better, even if I might not look as sleek in my togs..

IAmAmy · 21/04/2017 15:32

Just because it's trite doesn't mean it's not true.

It isn't true though. Being a healthy weight is good. Feeling that being "skinny" is the ideal isn't.

Plus I love eating.

I frequently chant that phrase at myself whenever I'm clearing up the kids plates with left over sausages on, or being offered biscuits in meetings. I do agree its a smug way of putting it but it keeps me in check and I do really like not being chubby any more (recently lost a load by giving up sugar). Agree with pp though that perhaps 'slim' would be a healthier word than 'skinny' which suggests modelesque proportions.

VladmirsPoutine · 21/04/2017 15:37

I agree with the general sentiment. When I put on my skinny jeans and do up the buttons it gives me a real boost to starting the day.

frieda909 · 21/04/2017 15:41

I like nuttyknitter's version: 'No food is worth being overweight for'. That I can agree with!

But 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels' just reminds me of how miserable I was when I was constantly dieting in my early 20s and denying myself all the things I liked so that I could maintain a weight that was unrealistic for me. I was 'skinny' but I was also sad. And hungry.

There's a valid point to be made in there someone, of course, but as a motivational quote I don't find it particularly helpful.

HarmlessChap · 21/04/2017 15:44

Meh, nothing tastes as good as a latte and slice of cake 50Km into a 100km cycle ride.

IMO far more positive to work on increasing the calories out than starve yourself.

FatOldBag · 21/04/2017 15:49

The obesity epidemic disproves this.

ShamefulDodger · 21/04/2017 15:53

I kind of understand the sentiment but it's completely bull.

For me, personally, nothing tastes as good as a heap of bolognaise or carbonara, liberally smothered topped with melted cheese.

Bliss.

Maudlinmaud · 21/04/2017 15:56

My mother used to say You can never be too thin or too rich, or something like that. Anyway it's rubbish and quite a dangerous attitude to have.

HashiAsLarry · 21/04/2017 15:59

I have been both obese and skinny and I can tell you that whilst I feel a lot better being skinny, it still doesn't taste as good as chocolate. Or gin. Or wine. Or cake.

ZaraW · 21/04/2017 16:02

As people said huge difference between being skinny and Slim at a healthy body weight. I was skinny going through chemo I was so frail and looked awful. It's entirely possible to enjoy food and still be healthy.
