Wills & James Matthews are hardly oil paintings, would the girls look at them twice if they worked in Tesco? Reading about Pippa's wedding tonight & it seems the sisters were both quite the social climbers in Marlborough which was encouraged by their mother? I have friends in similar circles & it seems they are very hard to break into if you are not "old money/landed gentry types" so I think Carole achieved what she set out to do! Roll on Pippa's wedding, looking forward to seeing the dress!

They married people they met through college/work/friends, like most of us did.

We wouldn't be having this conversation if Carole wasn't an ex Air Hostess. The problem people appear to have with the Middletons is that people not born into the Aristocracy have dared to marry "above their station", hence all of the digs about "social climbing". Plenty of sons and daughters of aristocrats get very expensive degrees which they don't go on to use. Kate was involved with Wills from University - she was absolutely hounded by the media which I'm sure made it difficult to hold down a job. As for James and Pippa? Well, their parents are fucking millionaires, so they aren't unlike the children of many other millionaires.

Does it occur that it's an advantageous match for both of them, not just her? She's the SIL of the future monarch. There aren't many of those. There are quite a few rich hedge fund managers though...

People tend to marry in the social groups they move in and Pippa has access to a very wealthy one thanks to both parents and her sister no doubt. Perhaps both chose a good match from within that group?

Yabu who cares, William and Kate seem very happy, and they have two gorgeous children, surely that's all that matters.

Applications to St Andrews did surge when he declared. I worked in the sector at the time and people I knew who worked there were quite open about it. It really helped their international marketing efforts in particular, especially the US.

So I don't know if the Middletons in particular had that thought, but plenty of others certainly did!

Carol may have wanted her girls to marry well. Kate may have hoped swapping courses would bag her a prince but he still had to fall for her and in sure he'd got his pick of a fair few ladies. Wasn't there another woman when they took their break?
