Aibu to think that Carole Middleton went out of her way to marry off Kate & Pippa to royalty & society millionaires?? Wills & James Matthews are hardly oil paintings, would the girls look at them twice if they worked in Tesco? Reading about Pippa's wedding tonight & it seems the sisters were both quite the social climbers in Marlborough which was encouraged by their mother? I have friends in similar circles & it seems they are very hard to break into if you are not "old money/landed gentry types" so I think Carole achieved what she set out to do! Roll on Pippa's wedding, looking forward to seeing the dress!

I think you've got confused with Pride and Prejudice.

So where's Mr Bennett Middleton while this is going on? Or is it all down to the Machiavellian Matriarch?

Hmm
Devilishpyjamas · 19/04/2017 06:10

How very Pride and Predjudice.

I enjoyed P&p more than the idea behind this post.
What a snobbish post, op!

I have a very wealthy friend who has never held down a proper job (very expensive school & top university as well). He hasn't managed to bag a wealthy woman though - his mother has failed him.

Isn't not using your expensive education what those who are wealthy enough do?

Honestly this thread is bonkers. There seems to have been a mass swallowing of the daily mail. I dread to think what they would have made of my mother had she married me off to a Prince.

PossumInAPearTree · 19/04/2017 06:37

I think all vaguely posh young women marry posh young men. None of them want to do a days work in their life if they can swan about shopping and playing tennis. So they're hardly going to marry Barry who works in Tesco.

BeMorePanda · 19/04/2017 06:41

Fuck!
So on top of all the other demands as a parent, I'm expected to "marry the dd's off" now too?

user1491148352 · 19/04/2017 06:59

Kate met William because they were contemporaries at Uni.

Once Kate married into the royals the rest of her family became hot property.

Groovee · 19/04/2017 07:13

I don't know or care what the parents may have engineered.

All I can think is that Dd desperately wants to study at Edinburgh from next year and we live here and i had no idea you go to uni here to mix in the right social circles!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 19/04/2017 07:20

I have a friend who has made no bones about the fact that she will try and engineer her daughter to move in the same circles as Prince George as she grows up. It's not outside of possibility, as she is a social climbing nightmare despite coming from relatively humble beginnings and would love the opportunity to 'better herself' by association.
I think the whole thing is batshit, but to deny that it happens is naive.

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 19/04/2017 07:23

Shes hardly Elizabeth Woodville.

shellhider · 19/04/2017 07:27

You aren't jealous at all are you Op? Biscuit

TheDowagerCuntess · 19/04/2017 07:31

If it was as easy as setting out to marry your offspring off to rich partners, everyone would be at it.

Kate marrying Wills probably did throw Pippa into the path of other rich men though, to be fair...

Mrs B was right about that, at least.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/04/2017 07:35

I don't see how CM could possibly have had any influence on whether William fancied her daughter more than all the other girls at St Andrew's.
The fact that he did has naturally had an influence on the social circles her other daughter moves in.

Cric · 19/04/2017 07:37

I love that Pippa will become sister in law to Spenser Matthews. Grin

I think OP only started this thread because she read last week that Kate is on MN and was hoping she'd comment on it personally & it would end up in the DM.

attending private school spitting distance from Highgrove

Kate was at Marlborough. Highgrove is near Tetbury. 35 miles away. Rather large spit.

I don't get this nasty attitude towards the Middleton family. I don't know them personally but they appear to be a close and loving family, very supportive of ALL of their children and have built a successful business.

St Andrews is not an unusual choice of Uni for privately educated kids. Durham, Bristol and Edinburgh have a very similar demographic. Lots and lots of people meet their future spouse at Uni, the Cambridges are no different in that respect. I just don't buy into this image of Carole (and it's always her, never Kate's Dad) as this scheming genius who spent years plotting to fix up Kate and William. As if neither of them had any say in it at all.

WillandBill · 19/04/2017 08:08

What a nasty and judgemental original post. Is this a reflection of the way you behave?

TheNaze73 · 19/04/2017 08:10

You seem very envious

SoupDragon · 19/04/2017 08:12

it was in the papers for years...

So was the fact that Elvis has been spotted alive and well.

Bambambini · 19/04/2017 08:12

"Can you explain this? How is the palace throwing them under a bus?"

Hello or Take A Break said so.

Kittyguilt · 19/04/2017 08:16

Wills and Kate are the most mismatched couple. If you saw them walking down the high street and didn't know them you'd be wondering what on earth she was doing with him. Either a big cock or a lot of money. Or future king as it turns out Wink

He has not aged well.

BlindAssassin1 · 19/04/2017 08:17

Meh. Both the parents probably thought to send their kids to 'good' schools so they can move in certain circles. Its not unusual. Parents move house to be in certain catchments, is that so different?

But really, when I saw this thread title all I thought was "Will no one think of my poor nerves!"
