Aibu to think that Carole Middleton went out of her way to marry off Kate & Pippa to royalty & society millionaires?? Wills & James Matthews are hardly oil paintings, would the girls look at them twice if they worked in Tesco? Reading about Pippa's wedding tonight & it seems the sisters were both quite the social climbers in Marlborough which was encouraged by their mother? I have friends in similar circles & it seems they are very hard to break into if you are not "old money/landed gentry types" so I think Carole achieved what she set out to do! Roll on Pippa's wedding, looking forward to seeing the dress!

Don't believe everything you read in the papers. I don't believe for one minute Kate chose her Uni based on Prince William also going there. How would she even know that when she made her UCAS choices? You clearly don't know anything about how students apply to Uni and select their options if you think that's even possible. She would have made her Uni /UCAS choices long before it was announced where William was going. As for Pippa, she has had the media spotlight on her since she was Kate's bridesmaid, so it's not surprising she has started moving in wealthier, even better connected circles. Carole Middleton had nothing to do with it, other than paying for a private education (which may people do) which made her daughters more likely to mix with people from that background rather than from the local council estate. YABU and dumb to boot!

Good yes, thank heavens. For a minute there I was nearly shacking DS up with some sub-par Royal from a bankrupt European house lacking in sufficient prestige for my over-blown ideas of grandiosity.

MILs get peerages and whatnot, right? Can I be The Divine Honourable Lady Crapuccino from now on, in anticipation of this future event?

VladmirsPoutine · 18/04/2017 23:32

Did one or both of your daughters not catch William's eye?

Rachel0Greep · 18/04/2017 23:35

And just how did she do all this...? Get Kate to fall over prettily and land face-down in Harry's crotch? (Or is it Willy? Always get the two mixed up).

i wonder how the parents would have felt if Pippa fell for the window cleaner. What would be so wrong with that. I hate all the class snobbery that goes on.

TinselTwins · 18/04/2017 23:36

When Kate and William met he was a teenage pin up, so I wouldn't say he's no oil painting.

Yup, Wills used to be the good looking one, Harry less so
Wills aged dreadfully very fast/early in adulthood, but by then the relationship with Kate was established
Harry grew into his looks and gets better looking all the time

nothercupoftea · 18/04/2017 23:37

It worked though, the press and everybody is still calling Catherine "Kate Middleton" to ensure the brand Middleton stays strong and they can make as much money as possible, even selling "official" photos. What I don't understand is the hatred for the Kardashian, and the fawning over the Middelton. What's the difference?

bluegreenyellow · 18/04/2017 23:39

This also allows for jobs for the boys and marrying into the same class.
what job has kate ever had apart from trying to marry will which in all fairness was a morning noon and night job for 10 years

Crapuccino · 18/04/2017 23:40

User14: No jealously whatsoever Haffiana but if I spent literally hundreds of thousands of pounds on my kids education I would expect them to have jobs in their 30's. We obviously have different expectations which is ok!

Ironically, if you were in a position to spend hundreds of thousands on your children's educations, them being employed at any stage in their lives is less likely to be such a pressing concern for you, since it would be more likely that you would have substantial family wealth for them to fall back on. This might also include walk-in jobs in mummy's firm or daddy's business. Not always, of course, but the odds shift in that direction. It would also be more likely that your DC would find very well-to-do spouses. Without a pressing financial motivation to work, either through marriage or through their own family's money, why would they then slog through a 9-5? God knows I wouldn't.

XsaraHale · 18/04/2017 23:43

Donna Air is working class? Really? I always thought her parents were well off and she was a society girl...she was just acting in Byker Grove.

Did William not 'choose' Kate after seeing her dressed in not much?

XsaraHale · 18/04/2017 23:46

Did Kate not give up working once engaged? bluegreenyellow

To be honest Crapuccino we don't have that sort of money, we wish we did as they're are some wonderful private schools near us with the most amazing facilities & extracurriculars & we would love to be in a position to provide that for our little dc when the time comes but we're not & we are very happy with the state school & will pay for anything extra they would like to do. However I would like to see them make their own way in the world & use the education they recieve,
it was always instilled in me growing up that one should have their own money regardless of marraige etc & be able to provide for themselves without relying on anyone else...

'How would she even know that when she made her UCAS choices? She would have made her Uni /UCAS choices long before it was announced where William was going.'

There is a secret organisation, think Masons/Illuminati, that lets ambitious mamas and papas know ahead of form filling time where The Eligibles will be attending university.

MrsHenryWales · 18/04/2017 23:51

YABVU

James Matthews is adorable looking!!! I'm thrilled for Pippa. (no, don't know her) He seems to be an utter sweetheart.

And I hardly think Carole, or Mike's, ambition for their children was to have their love lives discussed on Mumsnet.

Why even sprout this shit?

purplehonesty · 18/04/2017 23:54

Weren't they called the wisteria sisters?! Social climbers...?

Fair play to them, wouldn't want to be in Kate's shoes for anything! Why would anyone want that sort of life of constant scrutiny.

MrsHenryWales · 18/04/2017 23:54

BTW, moot point, but Neither Carole nor Mike ever paid for their DCs education.

squoosh · 18/04/2017 23:57

'carole and mike'

😅😅

MrsHenryWales · 18/04/2017 23:59

What's so funny? That's their names, no?

Is she Carol without an 'e'?

bluegreenyellow · 19/04/2017 00:00

kate has never had a proper job they said she worked for the family business when she lived in wales and the companies based 100 miles and apart from a year at jigsaw in 2005 part time she hasnt had a job

TinselTwins · 19/04/2017 00:05

Weren't they called the wisteria sisters?! Social climbers…?

People like to bleat on about how right they were when they have the benefit of hindsight
Kate with Wills "always said she was a social climber
Kate if she'ld ended up broke "always knew she wouldn't amount to much"
Kate if she'd ended up a notorious criminal "They were always wrong'uns, we used to call them the jail birds!"

Once someone becomes famous tonnes of people who barely knew them come forward with theories and stories...

squoosh · 19/04/2017 00:10

What's so funny? That's their names, no?

The chummy familiarity. It tickled me.

myshinynewusername · 19/04/2017 00:11

Who paid for the Middleton kid's education if their parents didn't?

NotReallyMeToday · 19/04/2017 00:11

Oh. I went to Edinburgh University? I had no idea this was meant to get you a posh husband, or that this was the only reason to go there.

Did I miss a memo?

WorraLiberty · 19/04/2017 00:13

So what if she never had a 'proper job'.

It's not like she was claiming benefits and listing stuff on Ebay, given to her from Freecycle.
