Aibu to think that Carole Middleton went out of her way to marry off Kate & Pippa to royalty & society millionaires?? Wills & James Matthews are hardly oil paintings, would the girls look at them twice if they worked in Tesco? Reading about Pippa's wedding tonight & it seems the sisters were both quite the social climbers in Marlborough which was encouraged by their mother? I have friends in similar circles & it seems they are very hard to break into if you are not "old money/landed gentry types" so I think Carole achieved what she set out to do! Roll on Pippa's wedding, looking forward to seeing the dress!

Not that I want to get drawn into this particular sideshow, but saved you don't really get it, do you?

For its followers, COE is the one true way. Hardly surprising they want a leader of their church who is actually of the faith.

The 'apostles were all men' is just bollicks peddled by the Catholic Church to lend credence to their patriarchal misogyny. It's understood that women played prominent roles in the church in the early days,

Are you Irish catholic perchance? That would explain a lot.

squoosh · 21/04/2017 13:53

Are you Irish catholic perchance? That would explain a lot.

Because all Irish Catholics are fans of patriarchal misogyny?

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2017 13:55

No I didn't mean that at all.

saved understanding of and respect for the COE is in line with many of my Irish catholic friends/acquaintances. I'm Irish catholic myself, but lived in london for many years.

savedbythebell · 21/04/2017 14:05

Saying that it's possible he would have wanted women as popes but the interpretation was that he didn't. But that's another subject.

savedbythebell · 21/04/2017 14:25

I'm leaving this thread, i didn't come on it to have catholism pulled to shreds which dowager did and to get told that the twelve apostles were made up of men and women Hmm No they were men, get over it for goodness sake. To argue about the rights and wrongs of having a female pope was ridiculous and sidetracked the whole thread. (there's always one isn't there) I came on to talk about the archaic rules regarding marriages in the royal family. We shouldn't even have a monarchy, the country would be better off without them, but even that's beside the point. Anyway haven't got time for any more ridiculousness.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 21/04/2017 14:32

It is easy to be a great two day a week parent and never overnight. Stop thinking about him as a part of the family unit. Let him visit and make some sacrifices if he is such a great father. In six months you might not be singing his praises!

Theycalledmethewildrose · 21/04/2017 14:32

Sorry wrong thread ^

TizzyDongue · 21/04/2017 14:39

I think and Irish Catholic would, in fact, be far more aware of the mysoginy really (at least younger generations have their eyes open to it)

savedbythebell Catholicism is founded too, if created today it'd be classed as a cult. All religions are cults in reality - some have been in existence for a long time, some have. It's not really be that long a time that the grip they have on their members has loosened, so you have in name only member, la carte members, enthusiastic members, virgulent ones and brainwashed ones.

Just about all religions are misogynistic, no matter how you try explain the reason men hold higher acclaim and mean more.

NotReallyMeToday · 21/04/2017 15:43

Isn't it a little hypocritical to demand that everyone respect Catholicism while simultaneously saying you 'can't take the CofE too seriously'?

Lweji · 21/04/2017 15:58

to get told that the twelve apostles were made up of men and women

Who said that?

Lweji · 21/04/2017 15:59

Who's henry v111? It sounds like a plane model.

Lweji · 21/04/2017 16:00

I came on to talk about the archaic rules regarding marriages in the royal family.

And you were told the reason for those reasons. It has to do with the Church of England, and it was compared with another religion.

iwanttobemissmarple · 21/04/2017 17:03

I may be wrong but didn't Prince Philip have to convert to C of E when he married the Queen. He was Greek Orthodox before.

Anyway I can't see how Mrs M would have managed to hook a Prince for her daughter or more to the point want to!

TalkingofMichaelAngel0 · 21/04/2017 17:05

Ive read page 1 and page 19 and cant work out what could have happened inbetween!

Lweji · 21/04/2017 17:23

MN happened. Grin

squoosh · 21/04/2017 17:26

I blame Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn.

TizzyDongue · 21/04/2017 17:29

And the pope, don't forger to blame the pope for not being without a penis.

Or some thing

AwaywiththePixies27 · 21/04/2017 17:29

I blame Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn.

Haven't read the last few pages, bit did read this thread at the beginning.

In regards to the op, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink, to use a cliche. Maybe Carol did have aspirations for her daughters, but that didn't guarantee William would be attracted to her. On my limited scientific research on Will previous girlfriends, he was actually dating someone else when he saw Katherine in that dress.

TheDowagerCuntess · 21/04/2017 18:08

Yes it is, NotReallyMe!

Love this...

To argue about the rights and wrongs of having a female pope was ridiculous and sidetracked the whole thread. (there's always one isn't there) I came on to talk about the archaic rules regarding marriages in the royal family.

Yes, there is always one, SavedByTheBell - you! You were the one who sidetracked the thread in the first place with your need to 'come on and talk about archaic rules'. I was simply pointing out all the holes in your arguments along the way.

Honestly, you couldn't make it up.

And I reckon most Jewish people probably reckon Catholicism was founded on a whim, as it goes....

TheDowagerCuntess · 21/04/2017 18:20

Sorry, I do know I should just leave it, but the comments that keep coming are just too Shock Grin for words. I've just woken up and am catching up on the thread.

For what it's worth Saved, I respect the Pope and Henry VIII in equal measures. Wink

Jesus, on the other hand, does seem like a nice guy. It's the men people riding on his coat tails that cause all the problems.

Giddyaunt18 · 21/04/2017 18:46

Read it where? Believe everything that you read?

bigmack · 21/04/2017 19:01

I blame Jonathan Rhys Meyers

MrsJamesMathews · 25/04/2017 10:56

I wonder if Meghan's mum is also guilty of being a manipulative, social climbing performer of voodoo? 🙄

And what about Jude Law? He's not an angel, you know?
