So, to answer just the question posed: yes, a 4 year "sacrifice" (or investment in your future) can usually be worthwhile if the pay off at the end is getting you closer to your dreams.

Young free & single: do what you like.

In a couple: take partner's wishes into account, compromise or leave relationship to do what you like.

Where children or other dependent family involved: consider best for all parties. Usually more and greater compromises needed.

Age also important - usually diminishing returns the older you are, but you're not old so no problem there.

Posters saying they don't care, or that they have no interest. Just seems a bit weird of them to post to say they don't care

Oh yes. Yeah, found those weird too. If they didn't care, I'd think they wouldn't have posted. But I chucked it to some of AIBU posters being, well, just their normal bitchy selves. ;)

Anyway, yeah, I apologise for confusing people. I really did not intend to "drip feed" and actually did not intend to discuss my situation as I realise it's highly specific to me. But luckily, despite me being confusing, I have received a lot of helpful advice. :)

All I can say is there's not much myself or my DH wouldn't do for a green card! If you can go live in the USA do it! Impossible for us sadly as we aren't anything special career wise
