Just had war with my next door neighbour.

I posted a thread here last week about Neighbours dogs coming into my garden- shifting everywhere, harassing my two and digging up flower beds.

General consensus was to board up the hole in the fence between our own gardens- which I did do. I also posted a receipt from the garden last weekend from the plants I had brought that her dogs dug up just hours after I planted them with a note explaining that as they had damaged my garden, could she please drop the cash in to go and replace the plants.

Neighbour returned from holiday last night and nothing was said. Went out this morning with the DC and have come back to find the fence panel has been taken out- so a) they have entered my property without permission as it was nailed in from my side (yes I probably shouldn't leave the gate unlocked) and b) have damaged something else of mine. Dogs have been in the garden again as well as DD stood in a dog shit on the patio.

Anyway went and knocked on neighbours door and produced her with the receipt for the fence panel as well. She ranted and raved at me, spat in my face and slammed the door in my face.

She has now gone out and left her mutts dogs in the garden so no doubt we will get a visit again from them this afternoon.

Call animal control the next time the dogs are in your garden. If she cares that little for other humans, she is probably neglecting the dogs too. Removing the panel is not the work of a well mind.

Good luck OP.

CharliesSister · 08/04/2017 18:29

Take the dogs to the nearest shelter.

Then leave your gate open for when she's back.

Obviously don't let the dogs out onto the street, they could get hurt. But a trip to the local dog shelter would get the point across.

ColourfulOrangex · 08/04/2017 18:45

Did she get her dogs back OP? she sounds crazy

Dionne1707777 · 08/04/2017 18:52

Any update yet OP?
What a dreadful miscreant you live next door to 😫

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 08/04/2017 19:05

I could have said I told you so in advance about all these dog warden suggestions!

I once woke up one Sunday, opened my front door and there was a stray lurcher on the doorstep!

I screamed: it ran off. It then proceeded to run about on the road.

I called the police , who said unless it was endangering the public (wtf? it was on the road!) they wouldn't come out...

The dog ran about for eome time. The RSPCA said could I please contain it in my own garden (only way to get there was through my actual house..) til MONDAY whne the dog wardens might be able to come out...

The lurcher came back into my drive. I was literally trapped in my house. DG is shit scared of dogs. Bloody nightmare. Eventually my NDN contained the dog and a lady came with a rope. NDN caught dog and we managed to get an animal shelter from about 30 miles away to take the dog...they wouldn't come and catch the dog, though. They aren't allowed.

I learnt a lot that day about dogs being protected more than people in cars innocently driving through a village or families with small children who are expected by the police and the RSPCA to house stray dogs.

By the time they situation was resolved the poor mutt had (unsurprisingly) become rather aggressive.

There was a happy ending : the lady with the rope adopted the dog :)

Motto : don't expect the RSPCA or the police to sort out the dogs. Put concrete and / or metal in front of the fence. Let the police sort out the spitting incident and just keep the dogs out. You contain her dogs and no one will help you. You might even be charged yourself.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 08/04/2017 19:07

DH is shit scared of dogs! Not DG : have no idea if that's even a MN acronym for anything....

luckylorca · 08/04/2017 19:47

1 - (If no-one has already mentioned it): Get an indoor camera positioned on your garden to record the dogs, plus her entering and/or tampering with your fence/other property. THEN go to the police! (She obviously thinks it's ok for her and her dogs to enter your property, but filmed evidence will mean that the police will soon put her right!)

2 - contact the Council and local estate agents to find out who she rents from and formally complain to them in writing each time she does something wrong... and add "cc Solicitor" at the bottom of each letter. They will soon kick her out!

ShakingAndShocked · 08/04/2017 19:54

New to thread but have just RTFT and have to say am slightly alarmed by OP's silence. Am genuinely hoping mad skanky spitting NDN has not escalated further after discovering the dogs had been penned.

Really hope you're ok OP and YY to letting NDN's LL know, including Crime Ref no.

xStefx · 08/04/2017 20:00

I know your worried about making it worse but what are your options here:
1: let the neighbour spit in your face, think your a pushover and let their dogs shit in your garden or
2: ring the police , and the dog warden and show those ass holes you aren't to be messes with

xStefx · 08/04/2017 20:03

Sorry, fone wouldn't show me past page 3 aahh . Hope your ok op

ScrumpyBetty · 08/04/2017 20:15

Good luck OP your neighbour sounds like the worst sort of nightmare.

RiverTamFan · 08/04/2017 20:19

Hope you're OK, OP.

Bit of personal experience. Keep ringing 101 (yes, I know, standard Mumsnet advice) and get a reference number each time something happens even if you don't want them to come out. This creates an official paper trail in the future if either a) this just keeps happening or b) something serious happens (which obviously you don't want) and you need to have covered your own arse. CCTV is also handy if you need to prove somethingbecause your neighbour might be stupid to call the cops on you/take photos of you through your windows in view of your cameras

ScissorBow · 08/04/2017 20:30

Are you able to put up a temporary but sturdy fence behind the existing fence. More than just covering the hole.

I'm finding it hard to understand why she wants her dogs in your garden? Why did she remove your repair? I can understand her not being bothered to fix it but actively breaking it again just makes more work for her. Why wouldn't she just leave it as it is?

kali110 · 08/04/2017 20:36

Any update op?
Hope you reported the fact your neighbour has let herself into your garden too!
Can't believe noone was interested in the dogs!
As for peopls suggesting you open your gate and take them and drop then miles away or just leave your gate open, shoo them out and call the police to say they're lose
That's just sick.
Doesn't matter if this woman is a bad neighbour or even a bad owner, doesn't mean you can take it out on the dogs Hmm

kali110 · 08/04/2017 20:37

ScissorBow maybe she doesn't want them shitting/messing up her garden?
Or maybe she's just a bully who doesn't like people standing up to her.

Figgygal · 08/04/2017 20:38

Shameless place marking here as neighbour sounds horrific
Spitting is the worst most disgusting thing she could have done what a pig

Cagz · 08/04/2017 20:40

If she rents you can call the LA who can serve an ASBO. You can also have ger for assault. Like everyone else states, the dogs are not your responsibility and your neighbour has trespassed on to your private land aswel as her dogs. Keep a diary. Take video footage if you can but if you let her get away with what she is doing she will continue to be a pain. Another may give her a thump, she'd soon keep her saliva where its meant to be and pay up wuick time. She's out of order.

kali110 · 08/04/2017 20:41

Figgygal don't insult pigs! Grin

wonderwoo · 08/04/2017 20:53

OP, sorry if this has already been said, but you may be able to find out who owns the house by looking at the summary of deeds online. It costs £3 and gives basic information about each property, including the owner. I managed to do it for my neighbour.

snakeface · 08/04/2017 20:55

If you don't call the police the situation will stay the same. Things may get worse in the short term but will improve.

Why on earth would anyone remove the fence panel? Criminal damage?
If they are renting try and find out who they are renting from, most leases have a clause not allowing pets and every lease has a clause that you don't annoy your neighbours; if they are giving you grief I bet they're giving the landlord some too. They might be grateful for leverage to evict them.
If the dogs are on your property, call the dog warden, most councils have them.
Good luck

user1482079332 · 08/04/2017 23:17

What happened with the dogs? Did neighbour from he'll come for them

shabbyshibby · 08/04/2017 23:20

I haven't yet read all the previous comments & I'm sure this has been said already but if she is renting you should report her to her landlord as well as police & dog warden. She has caused damage to your property. Why the eff would she insist on having a gaping hole in your - or her landlord's - fence?! PLEASE don't let her dogs out into the street - they could be killed or cause an accident & they aren't to blame for the behaviour of their asshole owner. & don't give her any grounds to complain to police about you by slinging shit into her (landlord's) house! Maintain the higher ground! (Won't be hard if she's a total scumbag)

TabascoToastie · 08/04/2017 23:58

DH is shit scared of dogs! Not DG : have no idea if that's even a MN acronym for anything....

There's a thread about pet goats...

RubyGoat · 09/04/2017 00:09

I would contact the landlord or letting agent, & advise them that you require them to fix the fence as her dogs keep escaping, fouling your garden & you cannot use it in peace.

TheHobbitMum · 09/04/2017 00:18

How did things go with the dogs in the pen OP? Hopefully she decided to be decent and apologise when she collected the dogs, probably too much to hope for though Angry
