DD (14) wearing leggings and crop tops

DD is very sporty, likes to wear nice stuff but definitely never looks tarty or overdone. Her clothes of choice and comfort are black leggings and a top. If I was wearing leggings the top would definitely cover my whole (enormous) bum.

However she very often wears a short tshirt or crop top and isn't at all concerned that her crotch and bum are on view. She is very slim but obviously is now developing a woman's figure. She is definitely not trying to show off her bum, just doesn't see any issue with it.

I can't really work out if I should talk to her about it or if I should just think, lucky her to be able to get away with it! I'm slightly more bothered about the crotch than the bum I think.

I wouldn't worry about it. It seems that kind of sports wear look is the teen trend at the moment. I see them everywhere.

When I was her age I was wearing tartan mini skirts and crop tops. Now I'd kill to have the figure and confidence to wear something showing my midriff.

UppityHumpty · 04/04/2017 17:13

Can you see skin under the legs? If not then it's fine.

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/04/2017 17:18

Im wearing leggins right now. My top is long bit I will be sure to deliberately bend over alot at work.

I'm wearing bright pink lacy Brazilians on purpose...im.all out of fucks to give what can i say

Morphene · 04/04/2017 17:30

what would be wrong with seeing skin? Confused

I'll be glad when the word 'modesty' gets removed from the English language due to falling out of common (sexist) usage.

Astro55 · 04/04/2017 17:30

Please stay away from Absintheshots children you may be abused

Absintheshots · 04/04/2017 17:35

Astro55 Hmm only if you dress like a cheap hooker.

And you wonder why school uniforms are in place, I bet some of the posters on here are the same ones who fight to show their sad face in the daily mail when their kids have been expelled for wearing inappropriate clothing! Grin
The majority of people understand the difference between Ibiza wear and corporate wear thank god!

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/04/2017 17:51

Well I'd rather take my chances with "cheap hookers" than uptight judgemental dick heads.

Bet you'd not give a shit what someone was wearing if they were the first on scene if you had an accident or collapsed in the park.

"No please don't call an ambulance you are dressed like a tart and I dont want people assuming I know you"...

Astro55 · 04/04/2017 17:52

Yes cheap hooker types are an endless source of entertainment and ridicule for you

reallyanotherone · 04/04/2017 18:01

Absinthe i have a mother like you. Had strong opinions on how i looked, would only allow me to wear clothes she approved of, and discouraged friendships with other children she judged on their dress.

Let's just say it didn't work out well.

Absintheshots · 04/04/2017 18:33

I had (and still do) have a mother with strong opinions. My siblings and I all turn up really well and are following her examples, why wouldn't we?

Leggings are awful, period. Regardless of age.

Winetemptress · 04/04/2017 19:00

absinthe I think your posts are pretty sad and shocking actually.

If you teach your children to judge by looks and not what's really important would you judge on colour, race, accent, disability income? That's sad.

And no I think you may have confused us with net mums regarding sad daily mail faces here. Personally my kids are and we're A students but out of school experimented with clothes and hair just like normal teens should be doing.

Winetemptress · 04/04/2017 19:01

Dixie I have 4 nice ones like your ds. So proud too Smile

Astro55 · 04/04/2017 19:28

Absintheshots
Actually you sound really mean and spiteful - judging children - allowing others to do the same - it's just bullying - so sorry but you didn't turn out ok

elkegel · 04/04/2017 19:33

I don't see an issue unless she is wearing leggings which are as thin as tights.

What is all the fucking blether about leggings at the moment? They haven't just been invented. Hmm

elkegel · 04/04/2017 19:37

It sounds better than it is, more EastEnders in real life I am afraid, we are definitively working class.

Common as muck, more like.

DefinitelyOdd · 04/04/2017 19:37

I work with teenagers and I see the current fashions played out across all shapes and agea ranges. It looks shit, the larger girls feel self conscious and uncomfortable and personally I don't like seeing them dressed in fabric that means I can see their flesh move.

Trying to convince them of this........not easy. But then I remember my own teenage years and just accept that they need to crack on with it and that they will cringe when they get older.

Winetemptress · 04/04/2017 19:50

I feel I have stumbled across some kind of mysogynistic controlling frightening parallel universe.

ohdoadoodoo · 04/04/2017 20:19

Definitely trying to convince them of what?

I don't understand why people feel they have any more right to comment on leggings than they do another type of outfit.

Absintheshots · 04/04/2017 21:41

Common as muck, more like

Confused What did you think the comparison with EastEnders meant?

SeekingSugar · 04/04/2017 22:13

SaucyJack it is indeed sexist, deeply sexist. Offensive and rather tragic, in fact.

Truth is you will never see a thread about what is ok for teenage boys to be seen wearing simply because males are not subjected to this old fashioned nonsense.

To assert that you wouldn't want a boy to wear leggings is to miss the point quite spectacularly. Boys and men have always been able to wear their own clothes without being subjected to public scrutiny, harassment and ridicule.

Honestly, a thread like this makes sobering reading for anyone who imagined that equity was a thing.

SeekingSugar · 04/04/2017 22:17

Absinthe I'm sorry but you have not turned out well at all, your comments are clearly ignorant, harsh and spiteful.

Absintheshots · 04/04/2017 22:26

SeekingSugar

Thank you for your concerns, but I am perfectly fine. You not agreeing with me doesn't me I am all you describe, you don't know me at all. Posters on here struggle so much to tolerate difference of opinion, experience and views, it's amazing. How do you manage in real life?

To assert that you wouldn't want a boy to wear leggings is to miss the point quite spectacularly. Boys and men have always been able to wear their own clothes without being subjected to public scrutiny, harassment and ridicule.
Yes, because the leggings and the "underwear on show" fashion is going so so well for the boys Grin

skerrywind · 04/04/2017 22:28

Sounds like normal teen clothing to me.

My DD wears just the same- I don't have a problem with it.
