Job interview at a holiday/hotel/B&B place (trying not to identify myself)

Owner is showing me around and explaining how to clean the rooms, systems etc

Gets to the bedding and says "if the occupant has only stayed one night we don't change the bedding, just smooth it out and iron". I.e. The next guest gets the same fucking bedding Envy

That's grim right? And they have FIVE STARS

Urgh. The thought of sleeping on a dirty sweaty spermy sheets.

KoolKoala07 · 03/04/2017 17:09

A PUBE WITH A SCAB

MrsArthurShappey · 03/04/2017 17:15

But....but....what if every night for a week there's a different guest in a room, at what point do they change the sheets? Eeeeewwwwwwwww

MrsArthurShappey · 03/04/2017 17:17

Yes I thought OP was talking about cleaning the room and changing bedding as separate things. Room cleaned after each guest, regardless of length of stay. Bedding only changed if stay is two or more nights. So so grim.

SciFiFan2015 · 03/04/2017 17:18

This is an opportunity for MNetters to unite you know. After every hotel stay I strip the sheet off the bed and pile duvet/pillows up. It's part of my looking for lost things routine! However it has the added benefit of forcing the bed to be remade.

Let us all do this from now on!

WeirdAndPissedOff · 03/04/2017 17:19

I'm sure I recall watching a series where they filmed inside a B&B/hotel that did this - they called it a "pluck and pull". (As in "pluck" out the pubes and "pull" the sheet straight).
Lovely. Envy

Last year we stayed in a very large brand hotel and woke up in the morning sat up in bed and were watching TV when something caught my DH's eye on top of the cupboard - he's quite tall so had a look and found a vibrator and a used pair of knickers 🙈 made for an interesting conversation with reception - I'm sure they thought we'd put them there (we definitely had not!!) soon got our money back because the room clearly hadn't been cleaned to the "brand standard" - still makes me laugh 😂

Mavisblewitt · 03/04/2017 17:45

OMG I'm in a premier inn right now.. on my second night
I've used the kettle this morning to make some coffee, used the mugs and glasses
Sheets were crisp so I think they were clean, however I'm now feeling a bit itchy 😱

PovertyPain · 03/04/2017 17:50

My DH and I used to help a friend when he ran music shows. One hotel would always offer us a free room. We realised the second time that we went to stay, that it was not an accident that the sheets hadn't been changed the first time. Envy We turned down the offer after that and preferred the 1 1/2 hour drive home. The boss couldn't understand why the hotel was struggling and refused to read the online reviews since they were all 'rubbish". Strangely enough they went bankruptthank fuck

PovertyPain · 03/04/2017 17:56

I just remembered that I bought a black light, last week, as I dog sit and didn't want to miss accidents. I used it in my kitchen and was horrified, as it shows up organic matter, eg food drips, wee. I thought my kitchen was clean! 😭

I don't think that I would be brave enough to take it to a hotel room. I really don't want to imagine what 'organic' stains would be lurking. 😱😷

bimbobaggins · 03/04/2017 17:57

Oh no that's grim. I would never use the hotel kettle, cups etc anyway.

Chevrons · 03/04/2017 18:17

Sorry to post and run, to make it clear

Cleans are done on every room once a guest leaves. Bed change is included in that if the guest stayed more than one night. If not then the bed is straightened and left for the next guest.

Thinking about it there was an extra sheet between the bottom sheet and the duvet cover. Maybe she meant the duvet cover only doesn't get changed? She was showing me how to straighten and run an iron over it. So the rest of the bedding would get changed expect for the duvet cover?!

Peachy Peeing in a teapot or kettle?! Really? What the hell is wrong with these people?

user1479426600 · 03/04/2017 18:58

I work in a hotel during my breaks from university as a housekeeper, so this is only referring to one hotel I have experience of:

I wouldn't dare cut corners with the beds, beds are changed everyday, and I'm sure they would know and I would get sacked! But blankets that go over beds are never washed.

Mugs, cups, glasses, spoons, whatever are washed in the bathroom sink, using shampoo or cleaning disinfectant, whichever is closest, by me, who has just had her hands down the toilet. Rinsed, and dried with previous occupants towels. I never use any hotel mugs now!

Dressing gowns and slippers are never changed or washed.

Also, if you strip your bed before you leave, you are my favourite person. If you make your bed when you are staying another night, I make sure you get the chocolate biscuits in your tea caddy! (obviously doing these things is not your job, but makes mine so much easier!)

LilaoftheGreenwood · 03/04/2017 21:11

Peachy " Also be careful of the kettle/teapot, they are pretty often peed in by guests."

WAAAAT? Sad

LilaoftheGreenwood · 03/04/2017 21:14

I love staying in Travelodges because everything appears so clean. Please everybody who has worked in hospitality, stop telling me these things!

PurpleNurple69 · 03/04/2017 21:18

My scabby pube was in the Tune Hotel in Edinburgh. I don't like a Travelodge admittedly - Premier Inn is my budget hotel of choice.

I have a friend who was a chambermaid and swears that this was encouraged at the five star hotel she worked in.

I stay in five star hotels a lot for work and even when paying £400+ a night I've experienced some pretty dubious "cleaning".

I would never use the glasses/cups because of the stories I've heard (puke!)

I hope you have misunderstood. If not, please leave a fake review on Trip Advisor if you don't feel able to name and shame here.

Gwenhwyfar · 03/04/2017 21:34

I'm afraid I've read this on other internet forums by people who've worked in cheap hotels. The last hotel I stayed at had pubes in the ensuite shower which weren't mine.

PortiaCastis · 03/04/2017 21:35

I can believe everything that has been posted OTOH my Mum has holiday lets and the sheets are changed and sent to laundry on changeover days. However what is found when guests have left is unbelievable.
A sofa that was pissed on, sheets stiff with jizz and female bodily fluids, turds left unflushed, dirty plates on lounge carpets, toenail clippings on bathroom floor and at one stage a shower unit ripped from the wall.
These are just a few delights we find, oh and the items that people take home (we think) saucepans, crockery, towels, duvets to name just a few.
