Job interview at a holiday/hotel/B&B place (trying not to identify myself)

Owner is showing me around and explaining how to clean the rooms, systems etc

Gets to the bedding and says "if the occupant has only stayed one night we don't change the bedding, just smooth it out and iron". I.e. The next guest gets the same fucking bedding Envy

That's grim right? And they have FIVE STARS

OP posts:

Hecante I see the follow through, but the OP says the sheets are changed every time a guest leaves doesn't she? So every time a guest leaves, that's pretty clear no guest is sleeping in another guest's sheets, no? Unless that isn't what the OP meant, in which case yes, truly minging.

Envy The worst I have found is an empty coke bottle underneath the bed

Regardless of whether the sheets are being changed for every guest in the OP's scenario, let's not delude ourselves that this type of malpractice doesn't happen!

There are people who always want to cut corners in every area of their life, particularly at work and because they're not sleeping in the unchanged bedding they probably don't particularly care.

Whenever you eat at a restaurant, however expensive, you can't see the state of their kitchen facilities, you assume they're being cleaned and proper hygiene processes are being followed but really you have no idea. Things I've seen on BBC's 'Food Inspectors' are always in the back of my mind!

Floggingmolly · 03/04/2017 16:51

cleans are only done when a guest has left. This certainly indicates that the sheets are changed between every guest Confused
Op is wording her posts like that, but insisting we're misinterpreting what she's saying. Guess we'll never be totally sure...

DeleteOrDecay · 03/04/2017 16:53

Ugh, grim. I've always been funny about sleeping in any bed apart from my own. I always thought it was just one of my quirks, seems like my feelings on the matter might be justified afterall!

Grim.

I'm in hospitality and no this is not a "thing".

It's disgusting.

Surely she meant if a guest has only stayed one night SO FAR then don't change their sheets? The alternative is foul Confused
I found a pube on my hotel pillow once and hotel carpets must be the foulest thing ever. The amount of vomit and sperm that be on them Hmm

I took it to mean that the person could only have been referring to not changing sheets between two different sets of guests staying (if guest 1 only started one night) because the sheets are not changed when it's the same guests staying multiple nights.

The sheets are only supposed to be changed when a guest checks out, however this is being ignored therefore they aren't changed when they should be.

Stayed*

DoItTooJulia · 03/04/2017 17:03

I think OP means what Hecate means-'cleans are done' after each guest departs (bathrooms/vaccing/whatever) but if it was only a one night guest, the sheets are simply ironed in situ.

Are you the Hecate of old-haven't seen you around for a while?

PurpleNurple69 · 03/04/2017 17:03

Reminds me of a budget hotel I stayed in one night - woke up in the morning to find in the middle of the bed a pube with a scab on it! Bleurgh!!! Definitely not mine.

Vom 😳

AliceKlar · 03/04/2017 17:03

Oh yak. Sort of glad I'm too skint to go on holiday now. That is gross . What about guests with verrucas, fungal infections, head lice, ringworm, D&V and no new sheets after these afflicted people have left . Nasty.

Floggingmolly · 03/04/2017 17:04

Ah, ok, hecate. What's in a word, eh? Grin. hope they deep clean the bloody kettle

GloGirl · 03/04/2017 17:04

A family member once booked a last minute AirBnB for a something like 9 nights. He arrived late and jet lagged, went to sleep, had a reasonable stay whilst the owner of the flat slept on the sofa of the 1 bed apartment.

When he was leaving he asked the owner if he'd like him to strip the bed and the owner said "No leave it I have another guest coming tonight and you've left it all in good condition it'll be fine"

Shock Shock

Aside from the fact that this happened to my cousin's best friend's dog shampooer this is true honest!

sleepraptor · 03/04/2017 17:06

Flogging Molly - I assume the room is only cleaned after a guest has left. The washing of the bedding will depend on whether the guest has stayed one night (no wash) or more than one night (washed).

fourcorneredcircle · 03/04/2017 17:06

I used to work in the shittiest seaside hotel imaginable - you know the type ;)

And even we never did this. We had couples come in for an afternoon bonk and would clean the room fully and change the sheets - even if there was no evidence they'd even made it as far as the bed!

Urghhhhh.

PodgeBod · 03/04/2017 17:07

I can believe this. I used to work as a cleaner in a big hotel chain in the UK and although it definitely wasn't policy, other cleaners told me they didn't always change the sheets between guests. We were given such a very short amount of time to turn a room over.
I always changed them Halo

21jumpstreet · 03/04/2017 17:07

That is grim but not surprising, when I was 16 I worked at a (large chain) hotel and we used to use the towels from the previous guest to clean the bathroom glasses. I've never used a hotel glass since!

ThePiglet59 · 03/04/2017 17:08

Oh FGS.
It's only some jiz and nuni juice.
Is that so bad?
