Found my dream dress today...it's over my budget by £800 but I'm not sure if my budget was U to start with as I seemed underestimate how much they cost!
How much was your dress?

Mine was £80 off eBay via China. It was absolutely fine. No complaints from me.

Chocolatemice · 13/01/2020 19:21

£85. Half price in end of season sale at Monsoon. Whole wedding cost £4000 including honeymoon.

LadyofMisrule · 13/01/2020 19:25

£200 for the dress in an evening wear closing down sale. Thai silk, and absolutely beautiful. I kept it for longer than the husband, but I eventually gave it to the charity shop.

ThunderGarlic · 13/01/2020 19:27

About £60 over a decade ago

MinesaPinot · 13/01/2020 19:56

Around £500 23 years ago. My dad gave us £1000 towards the wedding and that covered the cost of my outfit including my veil and shoes, together with those of my two bridesmaids. He was so pleased when I told him.

Coldilox · 13/01/2020 20:06

£200. I didn’t have a typical wedding dress though, totally not me. I bought a lovely silver dress from Karen Millen. It was perfect.

Decidewhattobeandgobeit · 13/01/2020 20:21

Including alterations 2k

ethelfleda · 13/01/2020 20:26

Mine was £500 and it was beautiful.

Animum2 · 13/01/2020 20:27

Mine was 350 with alterations

CwtchesCuddles · 13/01/2020 20:42

15 years ago the fabric cost me around £150. I made it myself as I didn't like anything in the shops. Second marriage and I wanted a simple dress.

Purpletigers · 13/01/2020 20:46

£1100 but got it for £940 as they had a discount . That was in 2003 .

mbosnz · 13/01/2020 20:48

$200 NZD, so about £100 in today's money. I bought the silk, and my mother made it, bless her.

CherryPavlova · 13/01/2020 20:55

Does it matter what others spend? What matters is that you like it and it comes roughly within budget. I’ve seen brides look stunning in dresses from Oxfam for £120 or simple, but beautiful, homemade dresses costing about £200 and brides spending £10, 000 on a dress that was no more memorable.
My mother’s was made from parachute silk ten years post war. I suspect it cost shillings.
Mine was about £800 with shoes and veil around thirty years ago. It felt like a small fortune.
My daughter has the dress she wants - luckily it was reduced. It wasn’t cheap, but hopefully she’ll only wear one once and as son as she tried it on she knew it was ‘the one’.

1Morewineplease · 13/01/2020 20:56

£85

grubblyplank · 13/01/2020 20:59

Mine was £550 but that was 23 years ago.

mummyofthreemunchkins · 13/01/2020 21:04

£20 off eBay... an ex display dress with an £800 price tag!! Fit perfectly as well, I certainly count my blessings with that one 😂

Andpopwenttheweasle · 13/01/2020 21:09

£24.99! Not a traditional dress but exactly what I wanted :)

elliejjtiny · 13/01/2020 21:18

£370 15 years ago including alterations and cathedral length veil.

WarrenNicole · 13/01/2020 21:22

I got married last year - £5,500 for the dress and then £500 for alternations.

WarrenNicole · 13/01/2020 21:23

*alterations

midnightmisssuki · 13/01/2020 21:28

about 4.5K. Not even sure how much alterations cost - i have an evening dress that cost about 1k (I've used that dress many times). Hopefully my wedding dress will be worn by my daughter.

altiara · 13/01/2020 21:28

About £500, my mums outfit cost more than my dress!

VestaTilley · 13/01/2020 21:29

£112.50 in the BHS sale. And it was lovely :)

adaline · 13/01/2020 21:31

£55 from Debenhams.

FartyFenella · 13/01/2020 21:56

£100 brand new and alterations made by MIL. It was perfect.

I'm sure your dresses were amazing but I am baffled as to how anyone could pay upwards of £4k for a frock to be worn for just one day. It's a frock. For one day!

I was 50 when we got married. We paid for everything for our guests - hotel, food and drinks - and it cost us less than £4K. It's the marriage that matters, not the wedding.
