Found my dream dress today...it's over my budget by £800 but I'm not sure if my budget was U to start with as I seemed underestimate how much they cost!
How much was your dress?

£900 9 years ago.

Katelocks · 01/04/2017 20:54

About £3,000.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 01/04/2017 20:56

£250

SomethingBorrowed · 01/04/2017 20:57

£600
Strangely cheap considering we had a 60k wedding...

SpreadYourHappiness · 01/04/2017 21:00

This was my Maggie Sotterro dress, £1,200. It was the second dress I tried on in the shop - I fell in love! I adore lace and abhorred strapless dresses (as most seemed to be strapless at the time), so it really was perfect. I felt like such a princess!

£60 in 2009. Cost of material and beads - mum ran it up on her sewing machine.
Everyone values different things - i loved my dress and didnt want to pay much for a garment i wouldn't wear again!

BalloonSlayer · 01/04/2017 21:05

Has anyone said they got theirs out of a skip yet?

PortiaCastis · 01/04/2017 21:07

Nah Balloon but the ashes of mine ended up in a wheelie bin after I burnt the bastard

hollyisalovelyname · 01/04/2017 21:11

£9000
Faints.

Iamastonished · 01/04/2017 21:11

That's a beautiful dress Spread

froofroomcgoo · 01/04/2017 21:13

£550 plus alterations (£125) but it was off the rack in a sample sale. Would have been £1500 brand new.

£800 is on the cheaper side. With £1200 being the average.

SpreadYourHappiness · 01/04/2017 21:18

Iamastonished Thank you! I thought it'd take ages to find the right dress but it really didn't! The train hooked up at the back for the reception, which was really handy. I had a floor length veil and a tiara to wear with it - never felt more beautiful in my life.

SarcasmMode · 01/04/2017 21:39

£750 and £100 alterations.

BabychamSocialist · 01/04/2017 21:42

I'm so jealous at all of you who got such bargains or were able to fit with no alterations.

Unfortunately I got blessed with my mum's comedy bust and wide hips, so anything that's supposed to be fitted has to be altered usually or I look like a child playing dress up.

When I looked at how much the alterations were, I couldn't justify spending the £800 for alterations on a dress that cost the same amount.

On the upside, I've been looking into what I can do with the dress after the wedding and apparently it's quite easy to recycle into more of a party dress.

Prometheus · 01/04/2017 21:44

£600

RunFarageRun · 01/04/2017 21:47

£0.
My sister gave me hers, it was a white prom dress which she found on sale at Debenhams for £30.

joystir59 · 01/04/2017 21:48

£54 TK Maxx, 2012

RunFarageRun · 01/04/2017 21:48

Tbf, the dress I actually wanted but couldn't afford would have been around £400-500.

toopeoply · 01/04/2017 21:51

£3.5k in 2005. From Caroline Castigliano and was stunning. I still put it on occasionally Blush

Janeofalltrades1 · 01/04/2017 21:52

Mine was 3 years ago and I spent £260 on mine and £80 on alterations. It's all lace.

ApproachingATunnel · 01/04/2017 22:05

£41 Grin

AndInShortIWasAfraid · 01/04/2017 22:09

£1100 and £200 for alterations.

Debbierocket123 · 13/01/2020 13:46

Men cost £175 for a second hand dress. All proceeds going to charity too. It’s beautiful and designer and only worn for a few hours. I haven’t got my veil yet but I’m budgeting around £30 for that too. The shoes I’ll buy for around £25. £800 is a good price for a dress that you love. Who cares what it costs as long as you love it 😃

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 13/01/2020 13:51

£400. But it was massively reduced (maggie sotero, from over a grand) because it was after the royal wedding and all anyone wanted was very narrow simple dresses with lace, and it was not at all like that. I had a budget of £1-2k but only because my mother was buying it.

PhoneLock · 13/01/2020 13:52

£200 of the sale rail, reduced from some silly four figure price.

Probably not so much of a bargain because it was really too big and it took my MIL a week of work to make it fit properly.
