Found my dream dress today...it's over my budget by £800 but I'm not sure if my budget was U to start with as I seemed underestimate how much they cost!
How much was your dress?

OP posts:
ImogenTubbs · 01/04/2017 18:26

£150. I'm the sale at Harvey Nicks (and not an official wedding dress). My wedding cost a fortune but I genuinely don't get the wedding dress frenzy.

Oddbins · 01/04/2017 18:27

£50 and another £80 for alterations

Spudlet · 01/04/2017 18:28

£800 plus alterations. Shoes were about £50 I think, and I had a sort of headpiece thing from Etsy for £30-ish and a tweed jacket to go over the top for a tenner off eBay, which I had tailored to fit. I felt gorgeous that day Smile

britespark1 · 01/04/2017 18:29

Should have been £999 which tickled me as I was a police officer at the time - actually free as I won it in the shops prize draw!

LilacSpatula · 01/04/2017 18:30

£2750 reduces to £750 and about £100 worth of alterations. It's my favourite thing.

Algebraic · 01/04/2017 18:42

£1,245 + £250 in alterations. My max was £1800

Rayna37 · 01/04/2017 18:43

About £1k, with overall wedding £20k, in 2015. Overall budget is relevant though equally, everyone has their own priorities for the day and might splash disproportionately more on a dress, or food, or entertainment, if that's their thing. If you love it and it's affordable, get it. If spending that much would mean reducing (wanted) guests, don't.

BabychamSocialist · 01/04/2017 18:44

£6000 including alterations for our wedding this summer.

Only because I've gone the full Carrie Bradshaw - mainly because DP has made me wait 20-odd years to get married and it's going to be my only wedding, so I want to splash out.

If we'd have got married years ago I wouldn't have spent that kind of money on one.

80sMum · 01/04/2017 18:47

DD got married a few years ago. Her dress was £1,400.

For my own wedding, 40-odd years ago , I couldn't afford to buy a dress so I hired one. It was £40 to hire (2nd wearer) and would have cost £250 to buy.

MirandaWest · 01/04/2017 18:48

£200. Bought second hand on eBay and fitted me perfectly Smile

Elphame · 01/04/2017 18:53

About £300 in 1984. No alterations needed.

Likeaninjanow · 01/04/2017 18:54

Approximately £1000, which my mum kindly paid for. She stated the budget. Then she bought herself a mother of the bride outfit at twice the price. She did look amazing though.

Joinourclub · 01/04/2017 19:06

£150 but not a traditional wedding dress. £9000 on a dress Seems like madness to me, no matter how lovely. But then I didn't have £9000 to spare ! My whole wedding cost less than that! I felt great in my dress,so buy what you can afford and what makes you feel good.

BabychamSocialist · 01/04/2017 19:07

Oh also, I should mention that I wouldn't be spending £6000 on it if we had to buy suits for DP and the groomsmen. They're all in the forces though so will be wearing their dress uniforms which left a bit in the budget to spend more on the dress and the bridesmaids dresses.

Loubymoo27 · 01/04/2017 19:11

£1300 7 years ago + alterations and hoop. Couldn't have imagined wearing anything else!! Smile

hideehigh · 01/04/2017 19:15

Just under £7k and it's still not been worn... ended up eloping and wore a mini dress Grin

LarrytheCucumber · 01/04/2017 19:18

Made it myself for £15, but it was 1973!

user1459464195 · 01/04/2017 19:19

£124 - ordered from a US website and was shipped from China. Dress was stunning and fit perfectly, no alternations needed.

Krispiesquare · 01/04/2017 19:32

£80 from a charity shop but needs dry cleaning and alterations that will increase the total 😁

Talcott2007 · 01/04/2017 19:38

Dress + veil + hoopy-underskirt thingy + alterations are coming in at about £1400 - had budgeted £2K. So very pleased that the dress I fell in love with was such good price!!

FairytalesAreBullshit · 01/04/2017 20:41

First time £1200 plus about £300/400 in veil, shoes, alterations.

Second time can't remember, I didn't buy it, I didn't look at price tags, I was basically picked out a selection, one just suited my body shape to a T. I spent £100 of alterations, £100 on a lace cathedral veil, can't remember how much shoes cost. I sold it for £500, she didn't want the veil, but dopey DH forgot to take it out the bag. Gutted as it would have been an amazing family heirloom.

I think my Grandmother still has the first dress. I'd love to try it on again. I could get away with dying it maybe, it was gothic in style, a bit maid Marion type. We spent so long shopping and my family were all don't go for a generic meringue, I feel slightly gutted I've never worn one or tried one on. I remember one shop the first time, they asked the budget, she was told by family there's no price tag for the perfect dress. I tried on some that were crazy money, but looked cheap if that makes sense. Didn't really suit my shape, not my thing at all. It was maybe the fifteenth shop we went into, the dress was just magical. No hoop or netting needed.

My second dress was super heavy and killed my back. So much detail.

FairytalesAreBullshit · 01/04/2017 20:42

Would love to see pictures 😁

Mumtobe12 · 01/04/2017 20:48

£375 in sale originally £1250 couldn't justify more for a dress to be worn for one day however special it is

Whatsername17 · 01/04/2017 20:48

Mine was £400. My mum wouldn't tell me what my budget was as she didn't want me to look at the price tags. I loved my dress and felt fabulous in it. After my dad told me he'd transferred £5000 over to their current account to spend on the dress! I'd never have spent that much in a million years. It was a huge chunk of their savings.

MrsZombieMum · 01/04/2017 20:50

£22
From Dorothy Perkins
Spending more than 1k on a dress for 1 day is ridicolus.
