On numerous cases I get on a very busy train and I notice a vacant seat between two people, when I have done this I have had looks as if I have some contagious tropical disease. Or I have mega huffs and strange noises of discontent, or as happend today the person got up and stood until another seat was available . I am overweight, but you will catch it if I sit near you👹

observed that people who were not as big as me were sitting squashed together moving getting things out of bags or looking at a book etc. And they we're encroaching on each other and no one seemed to bother. I have seen this numerous times.

The clue is in "not as big as you". They may touch and encroach a bit, but not as much as you. Seriously, if an aisle person or window person gets up it's because you're either pushing them out of the seat or squashing them against the window, respectively. Most likely not because you touch them.

Why don't you observe what happens when someone else your size takes the middle space instead of smaller people?

(BTW, what you observed as small movements could have been a silent war for space Grin)

As others have said, some people may not mind their personal space being violated, but lots do and you really shouldn't put people in that position.

They're just not ready for your jelly op. They panic.

yaela123 · 29/03/2017 16:22

Is this a wind up?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/03/2017 17:00

I've got a question for you, Duff.

Roughly what percentage of the people who get up or who you warn of imminent crushing are women?

DearTeddyRobinson · 29/03/2017 17:19

Wait..you ask other people if THEY want to move to make room for you? Rather than realising you don't fit in the middle seat??

witsender · 29/03/2017 17:29

Tbh, if smaller people than you are getting squashed in similar sized spaces, guess how squat the people next to you must be? Tbh, regardless of your size, if you can't sit in a space without rubbing up against someone else or encroaching into their space you (generic you) shouldn't sit there

DUFFDADDY1 · 29/03/2017 18:27

Expressofthe...
I have never said that to any women. Most of the time I try to sit between 2 men.
