To suggest you all do not watch 'All round to Mrs Brown'

I have lost count of the number of times I have seen the trailer for this, with a pixillation to cover up a swear word.

Even if you excuse the unnecessary amount of foul language, this is at best an extension of a very bad 70s sitcom with a gay character added in. If this is all the BBC can put out on a Saturday evening they have lost the plot in a way.

The worst thing of all is that previous series have attracted a large viewing audience. Go down the pub, watch another channel, play a video game or do something else. Poor viewing figures will mean it will not get a second series and the sitcom may be cancelled.

This Radio Times interview really makes me want to watch it now - I didn't realise Cathy interviewed the celebrities whilst Agnes collared the celebrities mothers in the kitchen!

And they sound like such a great couple in the interview too.

This thread is making me curious. I'm tempted to actually watch it...

OP, is that what you were actually trying to achieve? Show advertisement? :D

MrsJayy · 25/03/2017 18:12

Yes hours and hours of comic relief last night proved how mad comedy is.

ButtercupChain · 25/03/2017 18:23

YABU. I love 'Mrs Brown's Boys.' I particularly enjoy the Christmas ones. It's silly, and they make mistakes (and leave them in,) because it's a stage show kind of thing, but it's funny and entertaining.

So I won't jump on the 'I hate Mrs Brown's boys' bandwagon that some people jump onto.

You are BU! I love it and will record from when we get back from the pub!

GoodnightSeattle · 25/03/2017 18:33

Yeah I don't get it, I love all sorts of comedy but MBB is too stupid, there's absolutely no wit or intelligence to it whatsoever. Baffles me.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/03/2017 18:40

It baffles you that some people find different things funny? Um.. okay Confused

EdmundCleverClogs · 25/03/2017 18:43

But it's more than a 'man in a dress' Hmm. Underneath the slapstick, there is obviously a bases of a very deep, real person in Mrs Brown. Agnes and Winnie's relationship reminds me so much of my grandmother and her sister, it's uncanny. I actually forget it is a 'man in a dress' sometimes, as there is a true 'motherly' feel to the character.

Yes it's silly, yes there are a few boring stereotypes, and some of the acting is abysmal. But it has heart, probably something to do with it being a real family who seem to be having a genuinely good time. There's a part in the film that actually made me well up, it's obviously based on a woman's real hardship bringing up children in poverty with no support. I really couldn't give a fig that the person portraying that is a bloke in a dress. It's in no way taking the piss out of women in general.

Scottishchick39 · 25/03/2017 19:58

This time next week I'll be seeing her live on stage for the 4th time! Can't fecking wait!

Summerof85 · 25/03/2017 20:10

I've been in the audience when it was being filmed for TV and it was very funny. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes and there was some stopping and starting but Brendan O'Carroll is very sharp and clever I think. Had a great laugh that night!

ImFuckingSpartacus · 25/03/2017 20:11

these comments are irritating. As if they secretly like it, but look here's some internet strangers who say its shit, so I'll hop on and pretend not to like it. Hmm

It's just really really shit, thats why they hate it.

ImFuckingSpartacus · 25/03/2017 20:14

As for the ancient stereotype used for the gay son, don't people find that mildly offensive? It's all limp wrists and handbag jokes. Aren't we a bit past all that?

ShamefulDodger · 25/03/2017 20:16

I LOVE Agnes Brown.

Can remember my dm calling me up and telling us to put the telly on (we don't usually bother, both bookworms and gamers)

It was that one where she's in a cupboard having a bikini wax. We cried laughing.

It's nice having something to share with my elderly parents. We don't usually like the same things.

The Christmas specials have become a tradition for us now.

So cheers op, I didn't even know this was on Grin

ShamefulDodger · 25/03/2017 20:18

ImFuckingSpartacus Rory is the spit of my nephew 😂 (Though dn is much younger)

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 25/03/2017 22:03

Watching it now simply to piss OP off unless OP is BBC employee tasked with drumming up interest in it
Pamela Anderson looks bloody great, btw

passthewineplz · 25/03/2017 22:19

It was feckin brilliant! Makes a nice change to the usual Saturday night drivel!

Floods123 · 25/03/2017 22:19

Was brilliant! OP you have had a sense of humour bypass! This format will grow and get better.

kel1493 · 25/03/2017 22:30

I can't wait to watch it with my dh (we record anything Mrs brown related so we can watch it together).
Everyone can have their own opinion.
I love my soaps, and others don't. That's fine. I love my Mrs brown, others don't. Also fine.
Can't wait for the live show.

CoolCarrie · 25/03/2017 22:34

Does anyone think it might turn up on YouTube? we were at the cinema so I could lust after Keanu and just missed it!

Willow2017 · 25/03/2017 22:47

Fecking hilarious will rewatch on catch up.

My 80+yr old aunt will be gutted she is in Oz and missing it. She was the person who got me watching it in the first place 😁

Can't stand it when people tell you something is shit and people are pig thick for watching it when they haven't even watched it themselves or think they are too 'clever' for it. Get over yourself. It's gentle clever comedy and usually Agnes's little chat at the end is pro family or pro women, not too shabby for a man in a dress.

ImFuckingSpartacus · 25/03/2017 23:25

There is nothing clever about it.

The irony of the "how dare anyone tell us what is funny" people coming back to tell others that they "have had a sense of humour bypass" or whatever. You can find it funny, doesn't mean I have to.

I am bemused by its popularity. The 1970's called, they want their jokes back!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 25/03/2017 23:30

Does anyone think it might turn up on YouTube? we were at the cinema so I could lust after Keanu and just missed it!

It will be on iplayer

coldcanary · 25/03/2017 23:32

I thought it was brilliant Grin
No there's nothing particularly clever about the humour in the show at all, you don't need to think about it to get the joke, it's all there right in your face from the start if that's what you find funny.
Watching Greg Davies now - he's another one who makes me cry with laughter!!

EdmundCleverClogs · 25/03/2017 23:42

We get it, Sparticus, you don't find it funny. This wasn't about who enjoys watching the show, not entirely sure why you're getting so wound up. I'm not 'bemused' as to why people might like The Middle or The Big Bang Theory. They're programmes other people like, I don't need to pass comment about how unfunny I find them, or call people names for enjoying those shows. That would be as childish as to dictate to people what programmes they should or shouldn't watch.
