I have lost count of the number of times I have seen the trailer for this, with a pixillation to cover up a swear word.

Even if you excuse the unnecessary amount of foul language, this is at best an extension of a very bad 70s sitcom with a gay character added in. If this is all the BBC can put out on a Saturday evening they have lost the plot in a way.

The worst thing of all is that previous series have attracted a large viewing audience. Go down the pub, watch another channel, play a video game or do something else. Poor viewing figures will mean it will not get a second series and the sitcom may be cancelled.

Not my cup of tea but each to their own

Believeitornot · 25/03/2017 17:25

YABU

But it is an awful show. Really dire.

LuxCoDespondent, do you know what proof means? If you have come to the conclusion that a show is both absolutely awful and the lowest denominator of viewing, it would be wise to at least be personally familiar with the content you are criticising. It's rather silly to judge an entire audience about a program you haven't even bothered to watch and not even come to your own conclusion, rather jump on other people's opinions.

What precisely makes it a 'piece of shit' show, based on your extremely limited knowledge of it?

ThouShallNotPass · 25/03/2017 17:28

Anyone think OP was long ago one of those whiney sods who took the time to write into "Points of View" just to piss and moan about something they disliked but didn't turn over to the other three channels instead.

(Lordy I'm showing my age having had a choice of just 4 tv channels...)

coldcanary · 25/03/2017 17:28

It assumes that people can only like one type of comedy as well which I find a bit bizarre. Most people I know like wide cross section of comedians and comedy programmes regardless of whether they're considered intelligent programmes or not.
Fwiw I can't stand celebrity juice but never miss an episode of through the keyhole since Keith Lemon took over, it's addictive!

squoosh · 25/03/2017 17:29

Mrs Brown's Boys is the proof that sometimes you don't need to watch a programme in order to know that it is a piece of shit.

You're not making much sense there dear. Are you saying you've never watched it but have decided you hate it based on other people's feedback? Always best to decide for one's self I find!

MrsJayy · 25/03/2017 17:29

I saw MBB on stage before it was on telly and i did that snort laugh most of the way through it they putting each other off so they laugh or forget their lines is the best bitGrin you can feck off with your telling people what to watch.

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 25/03/2017 17:29

What the cunting fuck is wrong with foul language?

Baahaha, this is pretty much what I was just about to post !!

OP, I guess you've realised the Mn Massive don't take well to being told what to do. Quite right, we are all adults with choices. So off you trot now there's a dear. Don't trip over your judgey pants and pearls on the way out. Grin

SusieOwl4 · 25/03/2017 17:34

I watched it a few times and did not get it at all , then all of a sudden it seemed to click and now I find it really funny . I think some people overthink it. Each to their own . What I did not find funny was vic and bob last night ,that was really cringeworthy. Imo.

ImFuckingSpartacus · 25/03/2017 17:34

No, a comedy snob is someone who insults others, or states they're a 'bit disappointed' in those who like that particular comedy

I bet you're a comedy snob too, though, in your own way. Wouldn't you be a little disappointed to find a friend or relation loved Roy Chubby Brown, or that fucker Bernard Manning?

I mean, its bit rich being all "Oh you're awful, judging our tastes, how dare you", but we all do it, just about different things. Own it!

squoosh · 25/03/2017 17:38

Last of the Summer Wine will always be my least favourite sitcom. The most depressing programme EVER!

And now I can hear the dreary theme tune 😱

But it doesn't make me angry. People seem to get very aerated when it comes to Mrs Brown.

EdmundCleverClogs · 25/03/2017 17:40

Ok, but what exactly is so bad about MBB to cause such vitriol against it? I mean you really have to be ridiculously sensitive to be offended by it. Absolutely fine not to enjoy a show, but some of the comments on here about the show and it's viewers have crossed the line of rude into just throwing insults. It's not necessary over a slapstick comedy show Hmm.

ElspethFlashman · 25/03/2017 17:41

Mrs Brown threads are always the same:

50% of people saying it's the most unfunny thing they've ever seen (or ever not seen as there's always one or two who hate it on principle despite never having watched it),

And 50% who laugh so hard their pelvic floors give out.

I'm one of the latter - every year when she gets stuck up that Christmas Tree I absolutely lose it. Grin

And Brendan O'Carroll is a legend. His mother was awesome (wikipedia entry! ://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maureen_O'Carroll)

No wonder he's so comfortable playing a strong woman for years on end.

morningconstitutional2017 · 25/03/2017 17:41

I never watch it anyway as it simply doesn't appeal to me. I'll watch 'Casualty' despite it's having lost touch with reality and then there's an art programme on BBC2. Plus there's a crossword which won't solve itself.

timeforabrewnow · 25/03/2017 17:44

I won't be watching it - not because there's swearing in it, but because it is shit, really dire, and always has been. Sigh.

Daydream007 · 25/03/2017 17:45

YABVU. It's hilarious and hugely popular. The Irish are blessed with wit and charm and an amazing ability to poke fun of themselves.

Littledidsheknow · 25/03/2017 17:46

Never watched it before, but I probably will now.

So there.

MrsJayy · 25/03/2017 17:47

Just been reading about Maureen O carrol what an incredible woman

GerdaLovesLili · 25/03/2017 17:53

Mrs Brown reminds me of my Auntie Margaret. Although Mrs Brown gets to say out loud what my Auntie only ever thought.

I will continue to watch and laugh.

Not Sorry.

MrsJayy · 25/03/2017 17:57

Mrs Brown reminds me of my Nans neighbour Mrs G when i was a kid she had the pinny and curlers and foul mouth 😂

user1471452804 · 25/03/2017 17:58

Husband and I think this is the funniest thing currently on TV. We don't watch Eenders, Casualty, Corrie, etc, etc. In fact the TV is so dire we have large collection of DVDs we usually watch, West Wing, Will and Grace, Frasier, etc at the moment.

Only live TV we watched last night was Tony Robinson walking in the lakes, lovely. We will be watching Mrs Brown tonight, I love Rory and Dino, especially when they cannot stop laughing.

So much of what passes for humour now is simply not funny.

ImFuckingSpartacus · 25/03/2017 18:05

I don't know if others have vitriol, I don't. I just really don't like it, and I don't think its funny. I'm not offended, but In don't like the charicatures, the stereotypes..it reminds me very much of the comedy of the 70's, which was often quite offensive.
I really don't like the "man in a dress is a joke in itself" aspect.

ImFuckingSpartacus · 25/03/2017 18:06

You get that funny is individual, right?

ImFuckingSpartacus · 25/03/2017 18:07

The Irish are blessed with wit and charm and an amazing ability to poke fun of themselves

That is true, but none of that is apparent in MBB!
