I work in a profession that requires safeguarding though. I have to do this on an annual basis.

First of it's sad and disgraceful what this girl has been through, but ice read some posts of both threads and If we accept casual sex is ok (has been the mantra of feminism I believe for a long time to dispel the women as sluts thing and it takes two to tango) I don't see what else this guy could have done if she did indeed look older, was out at a time you would reasonably believe an underage girl to be out etc.

I've seen posts about women carrying cards to say they're of legal age to have sex essentially, well isn't that just ID that could be faked? So it wouldn't be anymore helpful, and it will then just spread the notion that women can't be trusted, what else should women not be believed on that they're on birth control? Maybe have a paternity test as part of pregnancy?

This is a whole fucked up situation with sadly not many solutions

And I definitely think a man shouldn't trust a woman he is having sex with if she says she is using birth control. I would like to think men could take responsibility for that themselves too.

So, if a man trusts a woman he has just met regarding contraception, and she gets pregnant, what do you think should happen? Should he be absolved of responsibility? If not, then clearly it is best for him to make the pretty atraightforward decision to use a condom.

I have done nothing but express profound concern for the girl. I have done nothing but express that this is a really heartbreaking situation. I have tried to point out that to prevent this type of incident happening again we need to fund and support the professionals on the ground actually working to help vulnerable girls like this. I think apportioning blame and seeking vengeance helps no one.

Clearly these views mean I should not work in a safeguarding capacity

Women should now have to carry ID cards to prove that are allowed to have sex. Men should not trust women when they say something.

Weird use of the term 'young lady' given the context.

This case is about casual sex. Sex within only a couple of hours of meeting I think. I don't think it'should outrageous to suggest that sex with a stranger might carry some risks, and it would be prudent to at least consider them beforehand.

Rather than give everyone 'sex available' ID cards we could help individuals like this young girl so she doesn't feel this is a good option. We need to support her to make life decisions that will benefit her in the long term.

But this is just going off an a tangent as I think we all know that if you're having casual sex each person should look after their own contraception, and is going away from the point as I think it's pretty obvious I wasn't talking about exclusively casual sex the point was men shouldn't have to believe, and women shouldn't always be presumed to be lying and at what point does it stop that this should be presumed? I know this isn't the feminism board but that doesn't seem very feminist or equal and would be a major step back and assuming a woman is always lying seems to be pretty abusive
