To think the result of this rape trial is disgusting

Man gets off completely Scot=free for raping a 12 year old girl, and that this result gives such a wrong message to men, in a world in which girls are never considered too young anyway. I'm enraged!

Elendon and I meant even after talking to her.

I work with young people who often find themselves in similar situations. It is not that easy and if you think it is that reflects upon your unfamiliarity with these situations.

Perhaps you need to educate me, my colleagues, the police, judges, teachers and social workers who all admit it is difficult to correctly identify the age of some young people.

Falafelings · 19/03/2017 13:57

He didn't knowingly rape the 12 year old. He thought he was sleeping with someone who consented.

I know one very womanly twelve year old. She easily looks and interacts like a 20 year old. She's very independent

I see both the boy (19) and the 12 year old girl as victims.

funnylikeaclown · 19/03/2017 13:59

Annahibiscuits
So basically you believe that he lied about not knowing her age even though she told him she was older, didn't care she was underage, just decided to have sex with her anyway? Despite the evidence of the Police and the judgement of the court who clearly believed him?

What do you base that belief on?

Elendon · 19/03/2017 14:02

Mousse if you were a bouncer outside the door of a nightclub and your remit was not to allow under 18s into the club, you would get it right. Unless they had verifiable ID to support their age. You would see them interact whilst in the line and make a judgement on their mannerisms, behaviour and speech, not their looks.

Annahibiscuits · 19/03/2017 14:05

Uhm....I don't base that belief on anything clown, because that is not my belief Confused

I've only just read the thread and am still forming my thoughts/opinion

Falafelings · 19/03/2017 14:05

It's hard to tell age sometimes. One 12 year old girl I know is 5'4 and has a very grown woman's figure/face - all boobs/bum/waist. Looks old even in jeans. I feel sorry for her

Annahibiscuits · 19/03/2017 14:07

I find it hard to understand how you can interact with a 12 year old and think they are over 16. (As a mum of an 11 year old who easily passes for 16 to LOOK at)

CecilyP · 19/03/2017 14:07

I bet there are a few jailed rapists now wishing they had the same judgement as this man.

Maybe so. He was very fortunate that there was so much corroborating evidence. Previous police questioning the girl, the taxi drivers evidence, the CCTV evidence. The judge would also have had the a transcript of the girls police interview where, presumably, she admitted lying about her age.

Moussemoose · 19/03/2017 14:07

Elendon you think bouncers always get it right? You think verifiable ID is never faked? You think having some interaction with a queue of usually drunk people allows you to judge age?

I'm trying really hard not to patronise but you have not got a clue what it happening out on our streets. That is actually one of the problems, so many people have no idea about the lives some of these young people lead.

funnylikeaclown · 19/03/2017 14:07

Annahibiscuits: Regardless of what she LOOKED like, it would surely become obvious she was underage, on speaking with her?? She is 12, not 15 or 16. A 19 year old would have been able to recognise something wasn't right, I would have thought

What are you basing that thought on?

Elendon · 19/03/2017 14:08

Some very sick posts on here.

Parents of daughters, this is what they think of your 'over developed' 12 year old.

Annahibiscuits · 19/03/2017 14:09

Yy fala my dd is 11 and is 5' 9", easily passes for 16. But you would know she isn't on speaking with her for more than half hour

Elendon · 19/03/2017 14:10

Mousse they have to get it right otherwise they loose their job. When money to bring home is at stake, you can be damn sure they will understand the difference. Fake ID? Do me a favour mate!

SleightOfMind · 19/03/2017 14:10

Haven't RFTd but remember feeling similar when Doug Richard from Dragons Den got away with raping a 13 yr old as he'd met her through one of those sugar daddy/baby websites.

She was a tiny little thing, so no nonsense about her looks making her less deserving of protection, but because she'd ticked the box confirming she was over 18 on her online application, she was seen as fair game.
Children don't always tell the truth but that doesn't make them any less deserving of protection.

Eldon its a worry for sure. It's something that has always been an issue in our family, but is increasingly causing more severe problems. This thread is a little sickening

I think your daughter may have very different life experiences from the girl in question. I would also suggest her social group and her access to the internet may be very different. I don't know, I'm filling in gaps based on what I do know. It is very sad how old some young people are.

Elendon · 19/03/2017 14:11

Lose not loose.

Anon1234567890 · 19/03/2017 14:12

In a taxi rank, at 4am in the morning, some flirtatious behavior, they were maybe not the most intelligent of people, then throw alcohol into the mix and what do you think they were talking about, rocket science?

Under those circumstances it would be by no means obvious what age either of them were.

Annahibiscuits · 19/03/2017 14:13

funny on knowing lots and lots of 12 year olds

Elendon · 19/03/2017 14:13

Yet when it comes to buying drink from the supermarket, suddenly those 'old' looking 12 year olds are just that, 12 year olds.

Moussemoose · 19/03/2017 14:13

Elendon do you a favour? I know several suppliers of fake ID ( among other things) I could get you one if you wanted. They are really very good these days.

Annahibiscuits · 19/03/2017 14:14

Why are so many posters happy to 'fill in the gaps' about the Girl. But not the man?

Elendon · 19/03/2017 14:16

And you can be damn sure in the USA, there is a strict U25 age policy. ID all the way! (which is why many go to Mexico to celebrate their 18th or 21st birthdays).

Elendon · 19/03/2017 14:17

Mousse.

Are you a supplier?

Perhaps the police should be informed.

funnylikeaclown · 19/03/2017 14:17

But not this particular 12 year-old, probably quite different in life experience from the 12 year-olds you know. The man has said he believed her to be the age she gave and the court and Police accepted that but you and many other posters of your ilk refuse to do so, I find that strange.
