To think the result of this rape trial is disgusting

Man gets off completely Scot=free for raping a 12 year old girl, and that this result gives such a wrong message to men, in a world in which girls are never considered too young anyway. I'm enraged!

Why is puberty starting younger?

Trifleorbust · 18/03/2017 16:58

Elendon:

I'm not wasting my time engaging with someone so obstructive.

Elendon · 18/03/2017 17:00

Babycham

I hope you are not teaching my child.

You need help.

Do you not know the difference between a pre GCSE child and a Sixth Former by talking to them? What sort of a teacher are you?

jay55 · 18/03/2017 17:01

So much concentration on how she looked from all the adults. But none on how she sounds or comes across. However sophisticated a twelve year old sees themselves, whatever they have been through, most 12 year olds don't sound like they are 16-17-18.

Elendon · 18/03/2017 17:02

If Babycham is a teacher and is thinking like this then no child is safe in this country. It is as simple as that.

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 18/03/2017 17:03

If Babycham is a teacher and is thinking like this

Puberty IS starting earlier... that's all Baby was pointing out.

UpdateRequired · 18/03/2017 17:04

There are loads of theories Babycham, but apart from the obesity theory none can be proven. The use of phalates in everything is another theory. The fact is there are many many young girls who look like adult women, this is only going to become more prevalent, so what are we going to do about it? Because we can't change that fact. This, along with societies obsession with sexualising children (department stores selling thongs and padded bikinis for 5 year olds for example) is only going to lead to many more young girls being preyed upon.

springflowers11 · 18/03/2017 17:05

I have a 12 yo DD and a nearly 16 yo DD.No I wouldn't say they sound any different. Mond you neither is out on the streets in the middler of the night!

Trifleorbust · 18/03/2017 17:05

jay55:

People who conversed with the girl agreed that she seemed clearly over 16.

PlectrumElectrum · 18/03/2017 17:09

Well that's an interesting interpretation of my comment babycham - there's a whole range of risks from having sex with complete strangers you know nothing about & I personally have no hang up about people doing so provided they know & understand the risks of doing so. Its got nothing to do with being puritanical about someone else's chosen sexual exploits.

Given this particular man's reaction when told he's had sex with a 12 yr old, I'm guessing he didn't factor that risk into his decision to have sex with someone he just met & didn't know anything about. He can have as many 1 night stands as he likes as long as he's capable of making sound judgment on who he chooses to take home for sex. He's responsible for that decision, not a 12 yr old.

If I'm puritanical because I find the idea of an adult man having sex with a 12 yr old unacceptable irrespective of how that happened, I'll take that label.

All the comments about 'doing it by the book' or 'he was sure' are actually underlining the fact that, by definition, a 1 night stand is an inherently risky endeavour & there's no 'book' or certainty that applies. That's the whole point is it not? A brief, limited, emotionally shallow physical connection with another consenting adult? And as this case shows, that is why this has happened to this man, because the so-called 'rules of engagement' precludes any delving connection that would make clear this was a child not an adult.

UpdateRequired · 18/03/2017 17:15

Trouble is, older teens are probably still too young, emotionally and socially immature to be able to be wise to it. If you get a streetwise 12 year old girl who looks and acts like she's 16 or older, and an un-streetwise 19 year old boy, the 12 year old will have the upper hand and be the one in control of the situation

Well then I would say it is up to the parents of an 'un-streetwise' 19 year old boy to educate their child on such matters. And given most 19 year olds will at some point have lied about their own age I'd guess they're not as ignorant or immature as you're making out.

springflowers11 · 18/03/2017 17:19

why has my thread been deleted?
A 10 is considered old enough to have full criminal culpability.Boys this age have been convicted of sexual offences.
Yet a 12 yo girl is incapable of lying and manipulating a teenager to commit a crime against his will?

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 18/03/2017 17:20

Probably because it's not the time place, or subject to debate it Spring

RJnomore1 · 18/03/2017 17:21

Fucking hell spring.

And you have children? Daughters at that ?

BabychamSocialist · 18/03/2017 17:26

Elendon

I specifically said once you talk to them and know them (as I do, teaching them regularly) it's obvious they are not the age they look. However, if you saw them in a nightclub or on the street you could be forgiven for thinking they were a lot older.

I'm not sure how saying some kids I teach look older than they are makes me a bad teacher. I'm just quite observant - I also teach some 14 year olds who look like they're still in primary school.

SmileEachDay · 18/03/2017 17:28

spring because I (and others, I imagine) reported it for being a horrible piece of victim blaming aimed at a vulnerable child.

BabychamSocialist · 18/03/2017 17:29

PlectrumElectrum

I find the thought of someone having sex with a 12 year old repulsive too. However, you know that's not what my comment was suggesting. I was talking about how your whole attitude to sex in the first place seemed a bit off, like it's something to be ashamed of.

At the end of the day - this case was exceptional and everybody involved knows that. I don't think this will change any prosecutions, because it's quite clear from all the evidence that (in the eyes of the law) the lad did all that was required of him. Morally, maybe he shouldn't be picking up girls in taxi queues, but that's not illegal.

Elendon · 18/03/2017 17:31

Babycham

I would not want you teaching my child and given your last response most certainly not!

I might observe that teachers seem to be getting younger and younger, and I might well be right. An observance of someone appearing younger is anecdotal. Though, I do see some other rapist apologist has helpfully supplied you with a link to support this assertion.

BabychamSocialist · 18/03/2017 17:32

Thanks for that information UpdateRequired JustAnotherSilentOldNumber - I find that whole subject of why our bodies evolve fascinating.

I do remember reading that in Asia and Africa puberty is starting even earlier (around 8 I think?) and they think it's something to do with a lower life expectancy meaning females need to bear children at a younger age. It's just a theory of course but like I said, it's a fascinating subject.

Elendon · 18/03/2017 17:34

Oh and Babycham how long would it take for you to ascertain that a 12 year old, who looks 16, is 12 by talking to them? 10 seconds? 1 minute? 5 minutes? You are the teacher after all.

It takes me all of about 1 minute to ascertain the age.

RJnomore1 · 18/03/2017 17:35

I don't think stating puberty is starting earlier which is a recognised fact is rape apology? It does leave us needing to find a way to ensure that vulnerable children whose bodies are developing more wuickly than their emotions are protected and that people realise it's firmly possible - and I will say especially for girls wearing make up - that they are younger than they look, and that sadists should proceed with appropriate caution when choosing sexual partners.

RJnomore1 · 18/03/2017 17:35

Adults not sadists

Elendon · 18/03/2017 17:36

BabyCham is a teacher. Supposedly.

WankingMonkey · 18/03/2017 17:36

You'd hope people think that, but plenty of people think the girl is fully to blame for tricking this poor poor man, sorry - boy, into having sex with her. No sympathy for her at all.

I don't think anyone...'blames'...the girl. Just that they can hardly demonize the guy in this case who genuinely did think the girl was old enough.; As did 'independent witnesses' so its not like she looks very young but he just said he thought she was old enough as a defense.

Elendon · 18/03/2017 17:38

I think young children reaching puberty younger is a worrying subject, it would not 'fascinate' me at all.
