AIBU to expect all the hair to be removed having a Hollywood bikini wax?

Had four of these waxes now and they always leave bits. Is it really possible to remove all the hair? Or is my waxing lady not very good? Or are my pubes super strength? Confused

but I wish people wouldn't peddle the myth that it is "cleaner" when the truth is the exact opposite.

What do you mean?

I honestly think i'd be too scared of the pain being in that specific area causing me to wet myself to ever try it. I don't like shaving, i cut myself and the re growth itches too much, but i don't like the natural look on myself at all.

It is cleaner though.

Who wants pubes smelling of piss.

Removing pubic hair leaves you more vulnerable to infection.

Do you mean STI? Or infection of the hair follicles?

Do whatever you like with your pubes and "feel" cleaner if it makes you happy. Doesn't mean you are cleaner.

Genuine question.... how does it work if you're plus size? Say size 18+. Does that mean you have to do extra contortions to had the skin taut? Do waxers dread the sight of a plus size lady coming in for a wax?

bibbity I was asking what you meant by being the opposite of cleaner and infections. I genuinely would like to know. Do you have a source?

I don't know how to link on my phone but Dr Emily Gibson's 2012 piece in the Guardian is short and sweet.

Bibbity I just don't get why it annoys you. No one is saying you aren't clean because you don't shave it all of so stop being inflammatory.

I can see why it's annoying, it's just more lies (having no publc hair is "cleaner", sex is "better") told to (and by) women to make them feel they're not good enough as they are, that they have to spend money and suffer discomfort to make themselves acceptable.

Found the article. Lots of "this is possible/may happen" no stats. One reference in the independent (same E.G. Article republished but with input from others) suggests laser removal is safe (in the context of infection). Mention of herpes and suggests vulnerability to "other STIs" but doesn't name them.

I am 7+ years single so no STIs to worry about. I shave roughly once a month with a fresh razor each time and finish with tea tree oil. I shower daily, sometimes twice. Clean towel and underwear every time. When I mentioned it feeling cleaner, I specified that I meant during my period. Meaning that there was no hair for blood to cling to. As a result my pubic area is cleaner than during my period than when I have pubic hair.

Kissing who on earth are you to declare that other women are lying about how their own vulva feels? Confused

I'm not annoyed.

You seem a bit obsessed with cleanliness Hatpin. I think most people are a little more relaxed.

One interesting perspective to put forward - I have only met one man at university (so 18-22 year olds) who even considered that I might not want to remove all my pubic hair. Every other man has expected, demanded, or told me to be bald.

So in my age bracket, it very very much is considered the norm. In fact, I've heard on numerous occasions, people saying they would walk out of an intimate situation if a gal had a bush.

That said, I have it all waxed off. I'm too lazy to prune anything left behind and the hair annoys me.

I don't think my pubic hair smells like piss. I'm not sure why it would.

Report
ZilphasHatpin · 13/03/2017 01:10

Not really. A poster asked why people do it, amongst my other reasons (also posted, in the same post), cleanliness was one of them. You then posted that it was the opposite of cleaner and I asked what you meant. Did you not expect people to question that assertion?

You may feel that it is cleaner, but having pubic hair is not dirty, you personally might feel that sex is better without hair than with, but that doesn't mean sex with pubic hair has to be anything less than orgasmic in general. Shaving, waxing etc is a faff and costly (especially compared to free), do it if you want, but it shouldn't expected as "normal" and I don't think it helps us to keep on pretending that "everyone" does it. It's yet another thing that women need to do to not "let themselves go"

I'm not sure why it would.

Because it has pee on it from when you pee.

Who said it was dirty?

On the other hand this type of hair removal protects you better from lice...

'Despite rises in the prevalence of chlamydia and gonorrhoea, there has been a significant drop in pubic lice over recent years. Sexual behaviour changes cannot account for this discordance in trends of STIs so there must be another explanation. The drop in pubic lice in women appears to be most dramatic around 2000 and coincided with the introduction of extensive waxing techniques, such as the “Brazilian,” in women in the United Kingdom.'

Link

Also agree with PP it is cleaner, especially when it's TOTM.
