I wonder if the bastards that stopped her money felt a shred of remorse. The poor poor girl.

Thanks. I do still feel bad even though I know I shouldn't. I still think if I'd had £50 on me, she might still be alive. RIP Abiola x

Their is a reason we call them Tory scum. It's just like the 80's again. I will not be affected. To a point. Money on cigarettes par for the course. But it's the self employed I feel for. The under 25's who struggle to live. Fuck the Tories. May May May Out Out Out????? It has a ring.....

MsHooliesCardigan · 08/03/2017 23:17

Thanks Helena and seagazer. I know rationally that I did my best but I can't stop thinking that, if I'd had more money on me, she might still be alive. And I know that's the government's fault and not mine. But it still haunts me.

Natsku · 08/03/2017 23:20

Oh shit MsHoolies that's so sad. This is why mental health care and social care needs to be way up on the list of priorities, some people literally can't help themselves.

PausingFlatly · 08/03/2017 23:35

Thanks MsHoolie, I've never forgotten you posting about her either.

And no, it can't imagine it would have made a difference if you'd had a bit more money on you, because what would have happened a few days later when that had run out? And the next lot?

She needed reliable help. And she was in exactly the situation the supposed welfare state was set up to help with.

Becca19962014 · 08/03/2017 23:51

pausing thanks I have contacted them, it's the second person I know personally who it has happened to.

PausingFlatly · 09/03/2017 00:00

Becca Thanks

Well done on doing that. But fuck me, how does this situation even exist?Sad

PausingFlatly · 09/03/2017 00:38

No DSS: Most flat shares refuse benefit claimants, BBC report today.

"Landlords are more likely to accept potential renters who own pets than people claiming benefits, a BBC investigation has found. Analysis of some 11,000 online listings for spare rooms found all but a few hundred stated benefit claimants were not welcome."

While I do not like what the current Government is doing, the previous Governments have not exactly covered themselves in glory either. The housing crisis has not been addressed by any of them...and that includes the last Labour administration.

Too many politicians seem to have no understanding of what it's like to struggle. They naturally seem to come from comfortable middle class backgrounds (not all but a majority). They have NO idea about struggle in many cases because they have never experienced it. Hence when changes and cuts are made they seem totally unprepared for the backlash (and in many cases don't care anyway). They've not experienced it...it's not even on their radar for that reason....and even when warned they cannot possibly understand what they are doing to the most vulnerable.

Graphista · 09/03/2017 09:11

Middle class? We wish! Majority of the cabinet were privately educated and are Russell group grads, several were bankers and/or were high level business execs.

These are not people that understand hardship.

Exactly right...I use "middle class" but many are indeed very upper class.
