To think, No, i don't have to let them try on my expensive shoes?

I have a collection of expensive shoes, Irregular choice, they're upward of £80 a pair and most of them are sparkly as i like the glitter.

Obviously kids tend to gravitate to the glitter, and as i have them on display in my house, when i have a couple of friends over, the little girls like to ask to look and try them on.

I always say no, but my friend told me i'm being a bit mean, because "they're only shoes."

AIBU to think that not toys and they aren't going to like it if their kid manages to damage them and i ask them to replace them if they get scuffed or scratched? ITs not like it can be polished out or hidden, it'd spoil the look of the shoe.

I don't even let my own 8yo put them on as she'd fall flat on her face.

And to clarify, not, you absolutely do not have to let the, try on your expensive shoes. Your house, your shoes, too right they can't.
But if it causes problems, for the time being, is it possible to put them away while the child is going through this phase, or if not, maybe your house isn't the place to meet to have a relaxing chat, until the kid has got over it.

YANBU, at all.
I collect/repaint & reroot dolls, some of which are on display in my home. I love dolls so was very excited when my DD noticed them and started saying 'hello doll!' and asking to play.
I said 'those dolls are pretty, aren't they? They're just for looking at dolls. Shall we get you some dolls to play with?'
And now when she asks to play with my dolls I redirect her to the barbies in her toybox.

The shoes are the same. They're pretty, and they're there for looking at. Children need to learn not everything is there to be played with.

I had 79 pairs of I.C, Iron Fist, Ruby Shoo and Bordello shoes. Unfortunately I had to leave them behind when I had to up and leave to escape DV. I did manage to get 6 pairs out of the house and I wouldn't be happy if they got wrecked by kids.

seaweedhead · 24/02/2017 20:12

I bought a pair of irregular choices the other day and was asked if I was a collector. I was a bit Confused but now I see it is a thing.
yanbu A lot of them have quite elaborate embellishments that could easily get damaged.

WhooooAmI24601 · 24/02/2017 20:15

I have some ridiculously-priced shoes in my wardrobes that I've collected over the years. Nobody tries them on, nobody is allowed to meddle with them, not even my DCs.

Respecting other people's belongings is a great lesson to teach children, especially when they're in other people's homes. No reason to feel guilty for not sharing everything. Not everything is meant to be shared.

sonjadog · 24/02/2017 20:19

What make are those shoes, ona? They are stunning!

Littlegreyauditor · 24/02/2017 20:21

I had IC Courtesans in hot pink as my wedding shoes. Liked them more than my dress.
Do you want to see my favourite ones? Of course you do Grin

To think, No, i don't have to let them try on my expensive shoes?
ClothEaredBint · 24/02/2017 20:22

@strawberryblondebint yes, and the off topic group too. I've been a member for months, bought and sold a few pairs on there!

Its useful because the sizing can be a bit funny, so its useful to sell them on and then get another size...etc.

Oops, forgot to answer the OP. YANBU. They don't touch the shoes. Ever.

Itsjustaphase2016 · 24/02/2017 20:32

Nah that's weird. They won't break them or damage them will they? Just allow it. My kids for ever trying on my (expensive) clothes and make up etc. No harm done...xxxx

QueenOfTheCatBastards · 24/02/2017 20:52

I like Irregular Choice, but they're just shoes. Cheap shoes at that when you've been privy to the ordering system. The mark up isn't worth it.

MiddleClassProblem · 24/02/2017 20:59

Surely the mark up on majority of retail products are very high... that's how you make a profit

QueenOfTheCatBastards · 24/02/2017 21:05

Possibly so, but it feels more offensive when you've seen the figures :o

Tantrictantrum · 24/02/2017 21:15

Yabu to own ugly shoes like irregular choice

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 24/02/2017 21:17

tantrictantrum what an utterly stupid comment. Idiot

Sweets101 · 24/02/2017 21:25

Why should she put them away? I have a piano that I don't let visiting children bang on for the ake of my lovely neighbours. No putting that away so they just have to accept a no, however tempting it might be.

F1GI · 24/02/2017 21:25

Appallingly bad manners from your guests!

Say no, they aren't just shoes, they're my collection and they aren't for trying on.

People are bringing their kids up to be so entitled these days if they think they can request stuff like this!

MiddleClassProblem · 24/02/2017 21:25

Tantrictantrum YABU for not accepting people have different tastes

EricNorthmanIsMine · 24/02/2017 21:33

Here come the IC haters as usual when someone dares to say they (gasp) wear their IC out of the house Shock ... i wear mine for work every day and I love them! Live and let live people Smile

To think, No, i don't have to let them try on my expensive shoes?
ToastDemon · 24/02/2017 21:36

tantric you are rude.

bumsexatthebingo · 24/02/2017 21:38

People are allowed to dislike things aren't they? The ones you posted look like an Asda toy superglued to a Primark ballet pump to me. And you would probably find my shoes boring.

EricNorthmanIsMine · 24/02/2017 21:40

You're right bumsexatthebingo but I'd keep my opinions to myself and let you wear whatever shoes you wanted without making snidey comments ... you however can obviously not do that? Like i said ... live and let live Smile

bumsexatthebingo · 24/02/2017 21:42

Dos it really matter to you what an anonymous person on a forum thinks of your shoes? Surely you know they aren't everyone's cup of tea. They're not supposed to appeal to mainstream tastes are they - hence the name.

QueenOfTheCatBastards · 24/02/2017 21:45

For clarity, I like a fair wodge of the IC stuff, I'm just too blooming tight to pay for them. If I'd never seen the order sheets it probably wouldn't ever have bothered me!

supermoon100 · 24/02/2017 21:47

It seems a bit mean, they're just shoes!
