To think, No, i don't have to let them try on my expensive shoes?

I have a collection of expensive shoes, Irregular choice, they're upward of £80 a pair and most of them are sparkly as i like the glitter.

Obviously kids tend to gravitate to the glitter, and as i have them on display in my house, when i have a couple of friends over, the little girls like to ask to look and try them on.

I always say no, but my friend told me i'm being a bit mean, because "they're only shoes."

AIBU to think that not toys and they aren't going to like it if their kid manages to damage them and i ask them to replace them if they get scuffed or scratched? ITs not like it can be polished out or hidden, it'd spoil the look of the shoe.

I don't even let my own 8yo put them on as she'd fall flat on her face.

You're right, i don't give a fuck what anyone thinks of my shoes Grin

GunnyHighway · 24/02/2017 21:49

I fucking hate the idea of people wearing/borrowing/putting their feet in my shoes.

TinySalmon · 24/02/2017 21:50

Oooo yay! I love glitter shoes and loving everyone's pics.

Here are my sparkly Prada shoes that I've had for about 6 years (well worn as you can tell!) and some pink sparkly ones I picked up in Dubai WITH A SPARKLY SOLE!

No way would I let kids touch them... although I don't have them on display either.

To think, No, i don't have to let them try on my expensive shoes?

Sparkly sole

I've not seen them before - but can you not see the art /thought/craft that they must take to make them?

The concept is totally different - and I'm glad you actually wear them!

I personally love shoes but have to wear flats for work - that and the cost of kids makes them temporary unaffordable.

Keep posting the pics - it's all I have for now

supermoon100 · 24/02/2017 21:51

I simply do not get the obsession with shoes

OnHold · 24/02/2017 21:51

Have those shoes got robots for heels?

MiddleClassProblem · 24/02/2017 21:53

R2-D2. There was a Star Wars line and a Cinderella line more recently.

OnHold · 24/02/2017 21:53

They look like you trod in your child's toybox.

Rixera · 24/02/2017 21:54

I love them so much it hurts.
But then I usually look like I got dressed in things from my DD's toybox :)

LoupGarou · 24/02/2017 21:56

I have some very expensive shoes (Manolos, Prada, etc) and I let 3 year old DS try them with the exception of my Manolo Swan shoes - I am precious about them, unfortunately that makes them a most desired commodity for a determined three year old who thinks they would look better with some of his artwork on. So far I have outfoxed him Grin.

I don't think you're being unreasonable, I think its a bit weird and disrespectful for people to ask to try other people's things on to be honest.

Ofalltheginjoints · 24/02/2017 21:59

Definitely not BU OP! Some things aren't meant to be played with and id include my shoes in that! I have several old pairs of IC shoes (before they got very out there) and I love them but can't wear them anymore, I also have a pair of Louboutins that I can wear (low heels) but sadly none are on display either kept under the bed or in my wardrobe.

DP has a Lego room for his collection so I'm thinking a shoe cabinet could be a fair addition to our home.

Supermoon I never really got the obsession with shoes really until I had an accident that left me disabled, I bought shoes before my first major operation as a reward for when I would be able to walk again sadly that didn't happen but for me I do have shoe envy, makes me a little sad I can't wear them (just another reminder I suppose?) for the second major operation I bought jewellery (this probably makes me sound very shallow but it makes me happy and my jewellery collection cheers me up whenever I look at it)

Now I'm using my wheelchair more often wheelchair shoes will totally be a thing....

Enjoy your shoes OP!

ClothEaredBint · 24/02/2017 22:01

i'm quite a quirky person, for I sound like a knob saying that, lol. I've always been a goth/rocker/hippy so never followed fashion.

I used to wear a lot of gothic clothing, then I had the kids and lived in jeans, hoodies and trainers for a while.

This last 18mo I've moved on the Rockabilly/50s swing dresses like Lindy, Dolly & Dotty and Hellbunny, and it gets boring wearing flats with those on a night out, then through my Lindybop groups I discovered Irregular Choice... I always liked the IronFist and alternative shoe world, so IC's are just an extention of that,

I know they're not for everyone, i'm not offended if people don't like them, some people don't like my Banned handbags or my skull jewellery either.

I do thing its rude to BE rude about it though.

I still think about a pair of Miu Mius that I can't find anywhere. 2009 Capretto Contra seems to come up with them but not in the avocado colour I saw. Admittedly that sounds hideous but they were very 30s style.

user1477282676 · 24/02/2017 22:05

Just say you've got Athlete's foot.

supermoon100 · 24/02/2017 22:08

OfAll the gin joints, sorry about your accident but I think you know I am referring to the able bodied obsessives. If the shoes are that gorgeous, its no wonder the kids want to play with them. Let them! Life is too short to hoard possessions that are rarely used.

ClothEaredBint · 24/02/2017 22:08

ofallthegin there is a lady in one of my lindy fan groups who uses a wheelchair, she still wears her ICs :) she's the one who gave me the motto that life is too short not to wear pretty shoes!

My wedding boots were the Swan Lake design from Irregular Choice and they are stunning. Definitely not toys, too expensive for any child to play with.

Brigante9 · 24/02/2017 22:16

Yanbu. Children need to learn the meaning of the word no. Simple.

viques · 24/02/2017 22:18

middleclassproblem shoe regret really hurts! I still regret the pair of violet suede Chloe boots I saw more than a few years ago , they were so soft, like little fairy boots, with a cute little curl by the ankle. if only, sigh, if only.....

MiddleClassProblem · 24/02/2017 22:19

The ones that got away...

RB68 · 24/02/2017 22:19

Just outright ask if they are prepared to pay for them if they are damaged. After all the National Gallery only has pictures in it for goodness sake. I understand a) loving them b) being precious about them and c) having them on display they do cross into works of art you are not being unreasonable - get some cheap sparklers for the dressing up box and redirect them there

haveacupoftea · 24/02/2017 22:26

Everything about this is U Shock The shoe cabinet, the hideous Irregular Choice collection...they aren't even that expensive Confused

ClothEaredBint · 24/02/2017 22:29

They're not that expensive is quantitative.

Can I afford to buy them? Yes, with a bit of saving.

Can I afford to replace or repair them if someones kids scuffs off the glitter or scratches the material? No I can't.
