To think, No, i don't have to let them try on my expensive shoes?

I have a collection of expensive shoes, Irregular choice, they're upward of £80 a pair and most of them are sparkly as i like the glitter.

Obviously kids tend to gravitate to the glitter, and as i have them on display in my house, when i have a couple of friends over, the little girls like to ask to look and try them on.

I always say no, but my friend told me i'm being a bit mean, because "they're only shoes."

AIBU to think that not toys and they aren't going to like it if their kid manages to damage them and i ask them to replace them if they get scuffed or scratched? ITs not like it can be polished out or hidden, it'd spoil the look of the shoe.

I don't even let my own 8yo put them on as she'd fall flat on her face.

I 'only' have 2 pairs of IC (they are things of beauty) and no, I wouldn't let children play with them (they're not on display though so it wouldn't be an issue) Smile

FlaviaAlbia · 25/02/2017 11:11

YADNBU and now I know they exist I would wear a pair of R2D2 heels in a heartbeat. Off to google now Grin

FlaviaAlbia · 25/02/2017 11:12

Awesome

tigerdriver I didn't see the shoes at first in your picture, and thought your were talking about the candlestick etc on top of the table !! 😀

Shockers · 25/02/2017 11:42

I've been looking for some shoes to go with DD's Cath Kidston dress. I think I've found them!

The cynic in me could imagine that this thread was started as an advertising tool Grin.

you have to spread the love occasionally Shockers. It was someone complaining about people wearing 50s dresses that got me onto my lindybop habit!

Oh yes, I also bought a couple of Lindybop dresses to go with my IC shoes ☺

Shockers · 25/02/2017 14:01

I love the look of the Lindybop dresses, but I'm apple shaped.

ClothEaredBint · 25/02/2017 14:09

you'd be surprised, if you go for the swing dresses like Audrey, Matilda, Lana and Daria.. probably also Courtney and Brittany, they tend to hide a multitude of sins.

I'm quite overweight and am more of an apple because of my belly lately, and those dresses look really good!

Sorry but slight derail, are LindyBop dresses comfortable? I've been eyeing up some of the Sinead long sleeved print swing dresses - the Moscow one in particular but wasn't sure if they are comfortable.

Emmageddon · 25/02/2017 15:16

Pretty Kitty Fashion do some lovely 50's style dresses too - perfect for most shapes and sizes, apart from the wiggle dresses, which, I would imagine, you'd need to be curvy in all the right places to carry it off unlike me, curvy in all the wrong places

Purplefrogshoes · 25/02/2017 15:25

Yanbu I also have lots of irregular choice and several display cabinets but mostly the are stored in boxes in the loft. This is one of my favourite pairs

lovetonamechange · 25/02/2017 15:50

Wow some pretty stuck up comments about how much they cost and not liking them

If you go to someone's house it doesn't matter if something cost 8p or 8k or if you think it's ugly or not it's not yours to help yourself to. I wouldn't expect my child to have free reign of anyone else's possessions.

Iamastonished · 25/02/2017 16:10

"but mostly the are stored in boxes in the loft."

I think that is rather sad. Surely, if you love them you would want to wear them or see them, and not hide them away.

Purplefrogshoes · 25/02/2017 16:21

They are in the loft as I can't wear them any more as I'm waiting on orthopaedic surgery. I still have lots of irregular choice trainers that I do wear every day and I will be able to wear some of the ones I have stored after surgery

PositivePeggyNans · 25/02/2017 16:32

YADNBU.
It is a good lesson for children that not everything is for them

Soo jealous of the shoe collection

ClothEaredBint · 25/02/2017 16:56

@LoupGarou I haven't tried that style yet, the only issue with lindy is they're not very generous sleeves, I think with sleeved dresses, most people usually size up.

There are a couple of Lindy groups on FB, Swap Buy Sell is one of the best, they're good for getting advice on the dresses and people are usually willing to share pics of them being worn.

LoupGarou the Sinead dresses are fab. I have Moscow and the new Fairy prints and they're lovely. The top is slinky lycra stretchy material and they come with a lovely bow belt too! Highly recommended Smile

DizzyBlondeMum2 · 25/02/2017 17:31

Omg you have ruby slippers, so jealous!!

YANBU - your friend is being entitled. Children need to learn to respect things that are precious to others (doesn't matter what it is) sounds like your friend needs that lesson too!

Though can absolutely see why they are tempted xx

Mustang27 · 25/02/2017 17:33

A shoe cabinet??? I really have heard it all now. But some cheap glittery numbers on eBay for the kids to play with.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 25/02/2017 17:57

Erm, shoe cabinets are v common Mustang, I know tons of people who have one. Confused

lufwa · 25/02/2017 18:06

They're a bit mad most of those irregular choice shoes, and children are going to be attracted to them. They look like they're from the dressing up box!

They're not that expensive compared to other shoes, I thought you were going to name another brand.

ProudBadMum · 25/02/2017 18:10

They are expensive to some and Op wants them displayed without children touching them. £80 on shoes would be expensive to me and now way would I let friends wear them never mind kids Grin

RaspberryOverloadTheFirst · 25/02/2017 18:31

OP, I noticed your comments about 50s dresses hiding sins 😀

I'm going to a wedding in June and while I hope to have shifted some weight by then, I was thinking a 50s dress (and petticoat) would be a good choice.

And some nice heeled sandals, maybe 😁

purplehaze24 · 25/02/2017 18:31

Get some sparkly dress up shoes or charity ones and other girley dress up bits to magically bring out when the shoe trying on requests start up 😃
