Transing a 4 year old

ShadowChancellor · 24/02/2017 09:10

On Monday, all the children at my kids school were taught about being transgender because the parent of a reception kid have decided that X is actually Y and are now sending their kid in as the opposite sex and have changed their name.

According to my kid they were shown a video that was all about how if you were a boy and liked girl things and girl clothes you were a girl and it was all very positive.

No parents were told before this happened. We only found out when the kids came out of school on Monday and told us.

AIBU to a) think that transing a kid at 4 years old is more to do with the parents not liking the fact that their kid prefers girls toys to boys toys and b) that the other parents should've been told before they showed our kids this film and promoted it all in school.

Its caused a lot of confusion with the younger kids who think you can change whether you are a boy or girl just by wishing it and didn't mention at all all of the problems that it can cause.

Hello all, thanks for the reports. We can confirm the OP has been around MN since it was all trees and fields. At this stage, we've no reason to think she isn't genuine.

BertrandRussell · 24/02/2017 09:53

"This isn't in Scotland. I'm trying to find a link to the video."

Shouldn't be hard- you've already sent tot to MNHQ.

ShadowChancellor · 24/02/2017 09:53

If the message the children got was "everyone is different and people can dress how they want and play with what they want" then I don't think any of the parents would have a problem.

But the message the kids came home with was that liking things of the opposite sex meant you could be the opposite sex.

My kid wanted to know if liking girls stuff meant they were transgender too.

I sent the name of the video to HQ.

Jesus wept. Anyway they've posted that I'm not new OK.

This four year old can't have had a very long lead up to this decision

If they had much input at all.

mumofmunchkin · 24/02/2017 09:56

Leggit

Most kids in England start school the september after they turn four, so there will be a huge number of four year olds in school at the moment.

TiggyD · 24/02/2017 09:56

The OP must be one of the regulars on the feminism and trans hate forum to use a hideous word like "transing".
The child may very well change thier mind. As nothing medical will start for years there's lots of time for them to figure things out.

BridgeRiverTower · 24/02/2017 09:56

My kid wanted to know if liking girls stuff meant they were transgender too.

Which is the natural conclusion/consequence of being shown such an asinine video.

Why even address it at 4? Just have a few low key talks on tolerance and diversity and leave it at that.

Traalaa · 24/02/2017 09:57

I do wonder about the school making it such a big deal of it by doing a presentation to the whole school. That's a lot of attention for the child in reception. It doesn't have to be a big deal for the other kids and shouldn't be. If you're so concerned about the video, ask to see it, but I'd be amazed if it's saying some of the things bandied around on here. The child's gender/ how they deal with that is their parents' call. At the heart of this is the school doing their best to say that acceptance of everyone is a good way to live. They're promoting kindness and tolerance as their ethos; I think that's rather lovely.

Freddorika · 24/02/2017 09:57

The idea that something medical will start at ALL is abhorrent.

Leggit · 24/02/2017 09:57

mum thanks, I genuinely had no idea, I thought the English kids started earlier than ours lol

ProfessorFlead · 24/02/2017 09:58

Dear op

I'm not suggesting that the sex of your own dc is relevant at all, I'm merely pointing out that, as the only details you've given are that your dc is one of x hundreds at this school, all of whom saw this video, you need have no fear of being identified by the school, so no reason not to reveal which school.
If the school name was made public, I for one would find this a more believable tale...

(and there's no reason for the school to want its identity kept secret)

AquaLatte · 24/02/2017 09:58

I believe you OP

My DD is in yr 7 and most of their citizenship lessons last term were turned over to transgender issues.

Xenophile · 24/02/2017 09:58

I know the OP in real life.

She's been here for longer than most of you calling troll.

I realise that my input is going to merely be dismissed as being from "one of those feminists" but I thought I'd chuck my hat into the ring in defence of a bunch of kids who have been given information that is at best spurious and at worst actually damaging.

Can those who asked for details of the OPs DC, school and other personal things just sit back and have a think about why those questions were wholly inappropriate, and then come back and apologise?

Thanks.

Freddorika · 24/02/2017 09:58

traalaa

have you watched the video in my link?

ProfessorFlead · 24/02/2017 09:58

Cross post with MNHQ...

AssassinatedBeauty · 24/02/2017 09:59

Leggit my child is 4 and will be for all but 2 weeks of the school year. He's not the only one in his class either.

Soubriquet · 24/02/2017 10:00

I would have been furious if a school showed a video to my children telling them that because my daughter likes cars she must be a boy and my son liking pushchairs must mean he's a girl.

What happened to toys be toys?

ShadowChancellor · 24/02/2017 10:02

Tiggy - I don't belong to any trans hate forums. Until this was shoved under my nose by school, I didn't even consider raising it with my young children. Why would I.

As for transing - I'm sorry, but at 4 years old, its something that is being done to, rather than done by the child.

OP posts:
e1y1 · 24/02/2017 10:02

No, NBU - would not be happy in the slightest, children that age don't have any clue about things like that.

AquaLatte · 24/02/2017 10:04

I didn't ask for any identifying information.

Name of the video isn't identifying I just wanted to watch it. Presumably it's floating around on the net somewhere

BabyHamster · 24/02/2017 10:05

Fred that surely couldn't be the video? My four year old niece would never understand that in a million years, I think it's even a bit advanced for my ten year old nephew.
