Settle a debate.
Dh wants to paint the front door. No problem, I've said he can do anything but white as it just looks common and tacky imo.
Would you believe it, white is the only colour he wants!

People that judge front door colours are common and tacky and need to get a grip

Giraffesaretootall · 22/02/2017 20:14

I shall go and namechange immediately GrinGrin

SanityAssassin · 22/02/2017 20:15

Gutted my front door is so cheap and tacky on my £900K house - what colour could I paint it so we don't look like ...

SerialCerealKiller · 22/02/2017 20:15

Don't get me wrong, I can't just about get away with white door on a little cottage or something. Anything else just looks cheap.

I have a white front door.

It was featured in Cunty Living.

Despite having 4 pairs of different-sized Uggs in the doorstep, not Hunter wellies.

I agree with birds bees and trees. It's a silly, sweeping statement... It all depends on the door, house, how it sits with the rest of the street etc.

And anyway so what - perhaps some people are just too busy living an exciting and wonderful life to worry about changing their front door :-)

We're fortunate to have 2 period houses, one in a good part of West London where - like most of the houses in the street - it has beautiful white external woodwork and the other a country house with white painted wood on the outer and inner doors (it has a glazed porch). White looks beautiful on both so we didn't change them.

And before anyone judges - I started with nothing, worked damn hard and earned every penny myself.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 22/02/2017 20:16

I hate my white front door ! That's ex council properties for ya !

My tactless rich friend told
Me to change it bitch

BakeOffBiscuits · 22/02/2017 20:17

Am I the only person who has never ever thought that a front door could be common?

Mine is oak and is very old and battered.Shock

pipsqueak25 · 22/02/2017 20:18

Oh good Slightly Grin

SerialCerealKiller · 22/02/2017 20:21

I read on a survey that 98% of people thought that homes with white UPVC doors were more likely to have bought their furniture from Brighthouse.

You've made my mind up anyway. No white doors for us. I'm thinking sage green.

BakeOffBiscuits · 22/02/2017 20:22

Maybe we should all post pictures of our front doors so we can judge each other Hmm Grin

BakeOffBiscuits · 22/02/2017 20:23

"Sage green" how common! Shock

You want Farrow and Ball French Grey, my dear.

HemanOrSheRa · 22/02/2017 20:24

Ah bollocks. This just confirms what MN is always telling me. I'm doing it wrong. Everything. All of it. Even my door is wrong Confused.

NotYoda · 22/02/2017 20:24

Serial

Sage green is lovely. It's tasteful. But don't you want a door that shouts a cheery Hello to you when you come home?

Sage green would give a couple of air kisses

Beeziekn33ze · 22/02/2017 20:24

It's a door, it's draughtproof, it has secure rhino bolts, it keeps us safe and warm. And it's white pvc and we don't care!
Plenty of people who'd be glad to have their own front door and their own home behind it!

DimplesToadfoot · 22/02/2017 20:24

People with green doors though. They're cunts. Wink

eek!

adds Farrow and Ball paint to shopping list to paint over green door Blush

Newtssuitcase · 22/02/2017 20:25

The ubiquitous sage green was what we've recently painted over in white.. Grin

TinselTwins · 22/02/2017 20:25

Worrying about whether a particular door colour is "common" is not something people with real money or class do!

limitedperiodonly · 22/02/2017 20:25

My front door is British Racing Green and completely solid wood. Anything with glazing wouldn't look right in the terrace. I don't know whether it's banned though. Everyone just seems to abide by the convention.

The three houses in the terrace next to me have been bought by the same developer. He's done a very nice job except for the doors and door furniture.

I can cope with the fact that he favours shiny chrome-coloured door knockers whereas most of us have brass. I accept the cylindrical lights in brushed chrome on either side of the front door even though privately I regard them as surplus to requirements as we have adequate street light to get our keys in the front door and they are fucking horrible.

But I hate the fact that he has painted the front doors in a greyish-blue shade that I suspect is Farrow & Ball and looks like the primer on the damaged wing of a rusting 70s Ford Escort.

In fact, I think 70s Escort is the kind of name F&B would dream up.

Oldraver · 22/02/2017 20:25

Of the seven houses where I live...originally a mixture of white, blue and red.... three of them have gone to the white side with matching garage doors and covered the drives in beige Cotswold stone. Personally I think its bland, uniform and 'common'...as in its the common denominator and lacks imagination. Every other door in the rest of the street is white...boring.

Mine is a dulled down very faded red, getting round to painting pillar box red... I guess I may be the 'common' one
