To think white front doors are common?

Settle a debate.
Dh wants to paint the front door. No problem, I've said he can do anything but white as it just looks common and tacky imo.
Would you believe it, white is the only colour he wants!

I think it depends on what surrounds said door.....

6cats3gingerkittens · 22/02/2017 19:51

I paid £2,600 for my obviously tacky, vulgar front door and it greatly improved the look of my tiny ex council house. I'm probably a bit common myself but have better manners than to assume an air of superiority and make it so bloody obvious to the world.

Gottagetmoving · 22/02/2017 19:51

I have never heard anyone call a door or its colour common before....
Ours is white but I dont think I have even thought about it. It's just a door.
Confused

HandsomeBoys · 22/02/2017 19:52

Can you have a posh estate pink?

Or is it an Estate with pheasants, horses and a river?

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 22/02/2017 19:53

Yikes.

Further confirmation I'm common as muck.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 22/02/2017 19:53

Tbh I think you need to get a life

ExcellentWorkThereMary · 22/02/2017 19:56

Genuinely had to just go and look at my front door to see what colour it is. Seriously, i can't care about this stuff. It does it's job of being a door brilliantly. That's all I need.

OddBoots · 22/02/2017 19:57

Oh well, I have just bought a common door then. We thought about other colours and I would have liked a black door but our door gets the full sun on it and composite doors can crack if they get too hot so thought we had better stick to white.

pinkunicornsarefluffy · 22/02/2017 19:59

I use the term loosely, it's the posh end of town , cul de sac filled with retired people in posh houses with white doors and windows. They'd probably be horrified to be called a common estate Grin because they are the posh end you see. so one of them told me

Doodlebug5 · 22/02/2017 20:00

I've got a red door...

Does that make me upper class? polishes brass knob

Badders123 · 22/02/2017 20:00

Mine is white
And I am dead common
So...you're right!
I shall whittle you a prize 🎖

mellowfartfulness · 22/02/2017 20:01

YABU. What is this willingness on MN to criticise things as 'common' anyway? I'd be fucking embarrassed to spout such classist shit.

My front door's blue (but white on the inside and the back door is white all over! STEALTH CHAV).

pinkunicornsarefluffy · 22/02/2017 20:01

I painted my cottage door bright blue, and all the window sills as well. That really did upset the people who had white walls and black paintwork and black doors.

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 22/02/2017 20:02

Oh hurrah, I'm upper middle class! We have pillar box red (well, we have a tin of it in the garage and will have pillar box red when the weather improves ....)

Katedotness1963 · 22/02/2017 20:03

I've lived in 16 houses and two had white doors.

NotYoda · 22/02/2017 20:04

I think it very much Depends

My door is Aubergine

SittinginaSleazySnackBar · 22/02/2017 20:08

One thing mumsnet has taught me is how common I am...
Maybe I would fit in better with the Nethuns?

Whocansay · 22/02/2017 20:09

WTF??? Is this just a thread for randomly insulting people for no reason?

I have a white door. And it's plastic (clutches pearls!!!). Never really thought about it aesthetically, but it keeps the wind out. And the burglars.

People with green doors though. They're cunts. Wink

limitedperiodonly · 22/02/2017 20:10

I have a certain fondness for white double white doors and fake doric pillars but I grew up in Essex. Not in one of those houses btw.

The door on my childhood home was council regular drab dark blue with an obscure glass panel with wire in the top quarter and solid below.

When my parents bought it, one of the first things they did was replace that fuck-awful institutional-looking door with an attractive oak-stained wooden one glazed with six small glass panels going to half way to let the fucking light shine on us.

The people over the road had a white door. It looked okay.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 22/02/2017 20:11

common as in lots of them. Otherwise just choose the colour you like without all this looking down on people crap. (Isnt it 'common' to call things 'common'? In the same way that only 'common' people would refer to anything as 'classy' Grin)

limitedperiodonly · 22/02/2017 20:11

I'm so fond of double white doors I doubled up on the white there Wink

Giraffesaretootall · 22/02/2017 20:12

Haha to the colour coding! In our last house the front door was a bit scruffy so we painted it before putting on the market. We painted it red. Cue estate agent coming along and telling us it looked 'a bit council' ... He certainly didn't think it was middle class Grin

We now have standard white upvc like most of the street.

sobeyondthehills · 22/02/2017 20:13

I have a white door and with a dog and a child that attracts mud, I am really starting to hate it.

poor door

MsUnderstanding · 22/02/2017 20:13

Your door rules mean nothing to me, I live in Bristol, .....www.instagram.com/bristoldoors/

SerialCerealKiller · 22/02/2017 20:13

I can't believe anyone has dared to admit they've got UPVC 😱
