To think white front doors are common?

Settle a debate.
Dh wants to paint the front door. No problem, I've said he can do anything but white as it just looks common and tacky imo.
Would you believe it, white is the only colour he wants!

C word?

sorry youve lost me there im afraid.

I have a white uPVC front door and while I'm not keen on it aesthetically, I haven't changed it because it's practical, not draughty, DD can't unlock it and it's easy to keep clean. Round our way it's a bit of a status symbol to have a white door because it's shows you have a bought house and not a council house (brown wooden doors). So it annoys me because it inadvertently looks like I care about stuff like that, and I really don't.

If I could have any door in the world it would be like Larry David's house in Curb Your Enthusiasm.

This is HRH Charlie boys residence complete with white front door

I still can't get over I read on a survey that 98% of people thought that homes with white UPVC doors were more likely to have bought their furniture from Brighthouse. Why the fuck would anyone even think to ask such a random question? What goes on in the survey-composers' tiny minds? Confused

WhispersOnTheWind · 23/02/2017 13:55

Depends if you mean 'common' as in you see a lot of them or 'common' as in you're a raging Hyacinth with pretensions to being 'upper class'? Trust me, no one is judging anyone on the colour of their front door unless it's painted neon orange with a radioactive green frame and clashes wildly with the purple fascia boards.

PortiaCastis · 23/02/2017 14:00

Annie Maybe it was the scam survey or an imagined survey

Yabu to say white doors are common. But I do agree with not being keen on them. We have a white upvc front door and I don't like it. It is an old style and constantly needs cleaned. However it does the job and we don't have the money to change it just because I don't like it, but if we did have the money I would choose a different door.

MichaelSheensNextDW · 23/02/2017 14:16

I live close to a city featuring lots of listed buildings, which have to have white front doors as part of the regs. So they are common as in occurring frequently, but where a 2 bed flat is upward of £300,000...

heateallthebuns · 23/02/2017 14:18

I have black. But it's plastic. Now I don't know how common I am.

I never even considered it. I have white upvc front and back door. It's practical and keeps the weather out. Most people I know have doors like this.

WaitrosePigeon · 23/02/2017 15:14

Common as in they occur regularly?

PointxTaken · 23/02/2017 15:23

the gated communities around London are anything but posh Grin They cost a bloody fortune though! I am now wondering what colour the front doors are, I won't be able to view an estate agent listing without first looking at that.

PortiaCastis · 23/02/2017 15:24

Valentine I'm thinking that the aforementioned survey is a lot of bollocks as in it didn't happen

OptimisticSix · 23/02/2017 16:25

My front door is white and PVC Grin I love it. It opens and closes and has a letterbox. Really what more would I want from a door?

Pennyjs · 26/06/2024 18:06

We have a very solid looking white front door on an Edwardian semi-rural house and I think looks great with all the greenery around it and has a front porch extending half the length of the double fronted house. The porch has classic geometric tiles and we have a jasmine framed balcony above. A darker door would disappear in the summer foliage.

I remember this thread. Fun.

ArchNotImpudent · 26/06/2024 18:48

Purely posting to see what username I had back in 2017.

Itiswhysofew · 26/06/2024 21:40

Strangely enough, I saw a white front door today and thought, you don't see too many of those these days. I quite liked, actuallyGrin

Mine isn't white and none of my neighbours have white front doors. Mine's grey, but is due to be painted🤔

AllPrincessAnneshorses · 27/06/2024 00:15

To begin with I thought you meant you see a lot. Which you do. I don't like white door either, but fail to see what's tacky.

GrinAndBeerIt · 27/06/2024 00:58

I can honestly say I've never noticed or given a door colour any thought.

SumThucker · 27/06/2024 01:17

Wtf 😭 I don’t remember this thread or my lame arse comment.

Pootle23 · 27/06/2024 10:06

You are of course entitled to your snobby views. I assume you are going to pay for everyone to change their doors to a colour palette you approve of.
