To think white front doors are common?

Settle a debate.
Dh wants to paint the front door. No problem, I've said he can do anything but white as it just looks common and tacky imo.
Would you believe it, white is the only colour he wants!

My house has a white front door.

Its hardwood and painted white with brass knocker, handle and kickplate. Its v posh I'll have you know and compliments my farrow and ball cornforth white exterior walls

I suppose it depends what you inherit when you buy, if it is a whole porch complete with door double glazed unit you are stuffed. If however you have a portcullis grey is the only colour which is acceptable. Fashions come and go. As a terribly posh person with a moat and portcullis I find inverted snobbery exceedingly de trop

Is there a scale?
So height of sophistication= racing car green, no letter box- there is a box to the side to avoid scratching the paint work.

Upper middle class= pillar box red, confident comfortable in themselves type doors

Lower middle class = yellow and or royal blue, aspirational, friendly and approachable

Working class= good solid brown, wood doors, honest stolid folk

Chavs and the underclass= white, bright white preferably to make sure all the other doors know how shit they are and can avoid them easily

My front door is black with chrome. furniture,I think it looks smart and elegant.
Some of the houses on the development where I live are leasehold,including mine.
All the doors on the development were originally painted black when first built, but a few have repainted them a different colour.Have they broken the terms of the lease, then?

We have a white upvc door and I couldn't give a crap. It came with the house and will stay until it no longer serves its purpose. I have so much more in my life to give a crap about than a front door!

So yes, yabu to make ridiculous judgments based on a front door.

They are common... we've got one in my defence, we live on the seafront and when we moved in we had a lovely wooden door but it took such a battering from our extreme weather that we changed to a white pvc one. It's very sturdy and has stood the test of the last 18 years.
But it's true...it hasn't got any curb appeal

Mine is white upvc. Not what I'd choose but we need lots of light for our hall and there's lots of glass in it.

I think yabu for being such a snob about front door colour. By all means have a preference for a certain colour but there's no need to be so judgemental about it.

Ha ha ha I agree, common to worry about it. I have a White upvc door- it does look a bit crap but it'll cost over a grand to change and I've just spent 30 grand on the fecking kitchen so no way

TBH the only people that worry about this kind of thing are people who are desperate to be upper class and aren't.

I actually love my white front door. Its so pretty now. Before we painted it in the autumn it was that greyish green that used to be very trendy (before white and brass came back in)
