I see these 'pearl parties' on Facebook live all the time... I don't get it but people seem to be going nuts for them?
How does it work? Do any of you do them?

Been lurking on this thread but had to break cover as I've just watched that FB video . Haaaaa haaaaaaa !! Who is she talking to ? She sounds like a pissed clairvoyant Grin

Danniejade76 · 17/02/2017 00:00

We have had customers in the past who have been very sceptic too so took their item straight to a jewellers just to be told the exact same, they are akoya pearls and they are worth whatever amount, one customer was told that hers was worth almost double what she was told.

Danniejade76 · 17/02/2017 00:03

Queen your the one making an absolute idiot of yourself there. How rude and inappropiate. Grow up.

^^ everything you said hun Grin

almondpudding · 17/02/2017 00:06

I've watched a video on FB. Woman says they are freshwater pearls.

She measures it at 7.5 mm and says it is worth £86. It can't be, right?

BBTHREE76 · 17/02/2017 00:06

Wrong - I haven't said people are getting amazing pearls or a certain value or whatever at any point on this thread. I said up thread I haven't even seen a pearl party.

I was just trying to be open minded and find out some info (like the OP) but as that view doesn't sit with the majority on here it didn't sit well. Prior to this thread I had no idea there were genuine or dodgy pearl sites. I had no idea scentsy, younique etc had the same (alleged scam) MLM business model. In between all the disagreement I have learnt a lot so thanks to OP.

Danniejade76 · 17/02/2017 00:08

Almondpudding a 7.5mm freshwater pearl would not be worth anywhere near that much. A 7.5mm akoya pearl could be depending on the colour and luster.

TinselTwins · 17/02/2017 00:09

We have had customers in the past….
you personally? your customers? not other sellers's tales about some "customer" of theirs or someone they know, not customers who are now sellers and are inflating their personal testimonials
You've had an actual customer of yours go to a reputable jeweller and get double the valuation?

justdontevenfuckingstart · 17/02/2017 00:09

MLM people, you are not running a business, or dealing with wholesalers. A lot of us in the real world do deal with (many different countries) suppliers etc so piss off with your MLM crap. Because that is all it is. When you want to equate buying some shite oysters from your upline or ebay to other people then bring it. It's smoke and mirrors.

JoanofNark17 · 17/02/2017 00:11

If this is true, why would you run a business selling pearls for half (or less) what they are worth? And why would the wholesaler sell them to you for even less than that?

How much do you sell the pearls for?

Idratherbeaunicorn · 17/02/2017 00:19

What happens to the oysters / shells after the pearls have been taken out?

OP posts:
almondpudding · 17/02/2017 00:22

Much as it seems like a dodgy scam, it's far more engaging than the usual dodgy scams. I like the lucky dip element.

TinselTwins · 17/02/2017 00:22

well, on the ones on my facebook feed, the customers get the shells and the oyster appears to be chucked in the waste paper bin Confused and the hosts coffee table wiped down with no more than kitchen roll….

.. I'm pretty sure they believe the crap about them being 100% un chemically treated yet somehow also not rotting, otherwise they'ld take some basic precautions

justdontevenfuckingstart · 17/02/2017 00:23

Yes Joan Pretty stupid business. BUY IT FROM ME AND FIND IT'S WORTH TWICE AS MUCH, I pity the bots, can't even realise that their arguments make it worse.

Danniejade76 · 17/02/2017 00:25

The mother of pearl (top side of the oyster) that has the shinest layer of nacre is sent out with the items purchased. The rest is binned.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 17/02/2017 00:29

Dannie do you actually believe you are selling pearls, not some man made creation stuck inside a dead farmed oyster.

TinselTwins · 17/02/2017 00:33

so DannieJade why doesn't the nacre of the shell match the coloured pearls I'm seeing "popped" on my Facebook cause it's car crash viewing and I can't look away ?

MinesaLattecino · 17/02/2017 00:33

a shiny, fishy smelling, Huntastic Kinder Surprise

is literally one of the best phrases I've ever read

justdontevenfuckingstart · 17/02/2017 00:38

Yay post a pic that is totally irrelevant and nothing like what I do. You're welcome.

justdont I'll allow 😍

Koalablue · 17/02/2017 00:42

My 15 year old got something similar for her birthday. No idea where purchased or for what price but she loves it.
Wouldnt do it myself but it is a great kids or teen gift.
The necklace is shit though. It has made her skin go blue were the "silver" has been touching.
The only one who liked the smell of the oyster was the cat.
If the marketing it aimed at adults as an expensive unique amazing piece of jewlery then it is crap. If its aimed at teens or kids as a cheap gimmik then its great.

TinselTwins · 17/02/2017 00:45

Wouldnt do it myself but it is a great kids or teen gift. show your little princess how special she is with some toxic chemical covered jewellery cause it's 100% and the real deal and other phrases that don't mean anything but are used to imply it's not covered in carcinogens and/or other toxins…

Chug10 · 17/02/2017 00:46

I'm a sucker for watching a pearl party on Facebook! It's on parr with kids watching the kinder egg videos on YouTube Grin

It's someone else's surprise but you just can't stop watching lol.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 17/02/2017 00:49
