To think my in-laws are over reacting?

My dc (11yr old ds & 8 yr old dd) stay over at my in-laws once a week during the school hols, so that's roughly 10 times a year.
They have a 2 bed house and up till 6 months ago dc slept together in their spare room, however in laws now make dd sleep on the floor in the living room which she hates, she says it's uncomfortable.
So I asked them today if the kids can share the room and they got quite angry with me and said no it's not right at their age!!
AIBU to think that's a bit over the top for a sleep over just 10-12 times a year?

Omg send them with a pack of 9 toilet roll if they go again.

Chinnygirl · 13/02/2017 21:15

Time to stop the sleepovers then.

I'm Confused about the roll rule. That is not enough paper for a proper shit.

Spudlet · 13/02/2017 21:16

But what if it's a big poo and two sheets are insufficient?! Do they have a very low fibre diet?

💩💩💩

reup · 13/02/2017 21:17

Oh god those rules are even more bonkers than I thought, do they make every visitor do it? I don't think I'd send my kids there ever. I've managed 13 yrs of kids with no family help - it's not that bad!

Aeroflotgirl · 13/02/2017 21:18

Sounds absolutely joyless, I woukd stop tge sleepovers, your kids aren't enjoying them by the sounds of it. They woukd hate my in laws, as Mil uses a roll of loo paper each time she goes to the loo.

Snugglepalace · 13/02/2017 21:18

Yep they are always on toilet roll watch. When I go I use loads AND flush Grin but then I'm always rumbled cause they have one of those blue block things which fill the bowl with bloody blue water.
Yes they are strange people from a weird 1950's parallel universe, needless to say dc much prefer to stay at my easy going 'use as much loo roll as you wish' parents.

What if pooing makes your nose run? Or you could sneeze and an inadvertent wee might come out when you only want to poo.

How much of the bucket of water are you allowed to use to flush.

Your children NEED to sleep over, don't you dare stop them. We need to fully explore the toilet issues. Course she can sleep on the floor, stop making a fuss.

Anyway, where do they keep the water buckets?

MyOtherNameIsTaken · 13/02/2017 21:20

When I was 8 and staying at my grandparents I slept in their bed with them as that was the only place left!
Sister on a camp bed in their room, my parents in the lounge, 2 sisters in the spare room and brother in the hall on a camp bed. Their 2 bed bungalow was heaving!!

alfagirl73 · 13/02/2017 21:22

How do they know you've used more than one or two bits?! Do they mark the loo roll so they can count them?! What happens when you use more? Do they freak out?!

Who are these weird species of people who have managed to determine that you will only ever need 2 pieces of loo roll for a poo?! I've met one or two people who seem to apply that rule and it baffles me!

SouthernNorthernGirl · 13/02/2017 21:23

When I go I use loads AND flush

Grin What's the punishment for such crime?

Bestthingever · 13/02/2017 21:23

My dd (8) recently shared a room with her 14 year old db while her room was being decorated. I don't see a problem but everyone has the right to their own opinion. However I don't understand the younger child having to sleep downstairs on the floor. That's rotten. What about a futon from ikea?

blueskyinmarch · 13/02/2017 21:24

What do they do with the buckets of water when they want a bath?

grumpysquash3 · 13/02/2017 21:24

My DS (15) and DD (13) share a room whenever we have guests (not loads, but more than 10 nights a year). It's really not a problem.

Snugglepalace · 13/02/2017 21:24

My Dsis and I slept in a double at our grandparents too, lovely warm fond memories of snuggling up under Flannelette sheets!
The buckets BTW are kept in the bath, 3-4 of them. In the summertime there is the added joy of gnat larvae in them!!

The loo roll thing is bonkers!

Aeroflotgirl · 13/02/2017 21:25

My mums 82 and does not do this, use as much loo roll as yiu like, she will even give her bed up for you bless her.

Bitofacow · 13/02/2017 21:26

If your kids won't go can I send mine?
My kids need serious toilet roll discipline. I spend a fucking fortune on toilet roll. I'm going to set toilet roll rules. I'll type them up and post them in the toilet.

Chippednailvarnishing · 13/02/2017 21:27

I'd be pissing in the buckets evil

Sparkletastic · 13/02/2017 21:27

Feeling v sorry for your DCs and I'm no soft touch. Is there an actual need for these sleepovers?

youarenotkiddingme · 13/02/2017 21:28

I can understand them thinking a double bed shouldn't be shared. I don't hold the same opinion but many do.

But it's totally not on to have seperate beds in same room or let DD sleep on air bed/sofa or turn take.

I remember years of giving to my aunts for new year. Me and my cousins are all born one year after each other. We are a mix of boys/girls. We often slept 3 in a single bed at a time. Age/gender was never an issue. Our parents just enjoyed the peace and quiet and the fact they could party longer as we were asleep!

Bitofacow · 13/02/2017 21:28

GNAT LARVAE this is the thread that keeps on givingShock

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 13/02/2017 21:30

It might be their house their rules, but then the simple answer is your children don't go to their house.

AskBasil · 13/02/2017 21:30
Grin

Your inlaws sound totally mad, but not in an interesting or entertaining way.

I'd just stop the sleepovers. If they can't be bothered to be good hosts, they shouldn't expect guests.

AcrossthePond55 · 13/02/2017 21:32

How do they know you've used more than one or two bits?! Do they mark the loo roll so they can count them?!

I'm with alfagirl! Enquiring minds want to know!!!

Bitofacow · 13/02/2017 21:32

AskBasil I am massively entertained.

I think the OP needs to go more often to fully explore their total bat shit craziness and then share with us.
