Lancashire voted NO to Fracking but it's been forced on us by the Government. We don't want it! What can we do?

Nothing. If you still think you're living in a democracy I'm afraid you're deluded. It's the profit system..lovely isn't it? Only solution is to have a revolution.

We've been fighting this issue in our area (Australia) for years. The High Court itself said that the proposal should not be allowed to go ahead, but because the government hasn't got the balls to stand up and say no to Asian FDI projects, we've still had to fight. If the government bends anymore, the project will go ahead, despite what 95% of people in the area want, and what the High Court have suggested.

The fact that this thread which is of vital importance to humanity will get less traffic than a random one on a tv prog tells you all you need to know on why nothing can be done. People feel helpless, disempowered and disillusioned so tend to opt out but the only way forwards is to engage and get angry. Capitalism is literally killing us so I don't really see what choice we have. I live in a country where earthquakes triggered by fuckn tracking killed people nearby us and I've been traumatized by the quakes striking as I was bfing ds1.

Not time to give up yet. I don't know of anyone who supports fracking once they discover what it does to the environment. Many years ago I joined protests against the Newbury Bypass, a hugely destructive road project that could have been avoided. We didn't stop that road but the (legal) protests caused so much disruption that other projects were later cancelled.
In the US lots of fracking companies are going bankrupt. If fracking in this country can be delayed at every step it becomes uneconomical.

Sadly, none of that helps Lancashire. I have no idea what you can do, other than the revolution proposed by Trotsky upthread.

It's so nice to know there are others out there as enraged and upset. I've changed energy supplier and will protest at the site as soon as I can. I've been reading about what happened in Bentley Australia. Interesting.

I couldn't find an 'environment' or 'climate change' topic anywhere on mumsnet. Do these kind of issues not usually get discussed on here? Seems something most mums would be horrified about surely?

No solutions to add, but I was sickened, disgusted and infuriated by this. Also not at all surprised given the British government and particularly the tories.

They've ignored the looming energy crisis for years and typically at the last minute choose a course that lines the pockets of - coincidentally - tory friends and which - coincidentally - means the north is paying the costs for the country while infrastructure and resources up here start to shut down for lack of funds. And they still really have no plans to tackle climate change.

I live a few miles from the Preston Road Cuadrilla site near the M55 roundabout OP so pass the site most days the carnage they are causing is disgusting! We unilaterally,wholeheartedly unequivocally said NO to it yet its happening as we speak and to add insult to injury they cause chaos with traffic,have 8 at least police officers sat there ALL DAY EVERY DAY observing when we are desperately short of police funding in our area. Plus have violated traffic planning orders daily directly leading to 3 accidents at the site entrance all within the first month?! Yet they will be allowed to continue id bet my house on it!

YY. It's fucking depressing. I don't know what you can do, OP. But I'm against it too, and the current government is too blinkered by profit to take heed of the many dire warnings about the impacts of fracking.

There has been talk of a climate change topic, but as the poster above pointed out few people really give a shit on MN.

This country is not acting as a nation state, with concern for the whole country. It is acting as a centralised empire, free to use the resources of the whole country to further the interests of a very few. We saw it in the 80s, the Blair/ Brown years did little to challenge it, merely papered over a few cracks with extra money. Now we're back to what is almost a cold civil conflict.

My better half would much rather find a way of making the whole work together again, without an international border on our small island.

Categed you are about to revisit fracking quite soon. I believe your moratorium is nearly up? Hope your voters see sense. I'm just so astonished that something so awful can be inflicted on us willy nilly.

I know I am holding out that we will ban it completely. I hate how we treat this planet at times. Franking isn't needed and we don't know the full extent of the damage it does

Out of curiosity, which one did you switch from and to, and how does it make a difference?

I changed to ecotricity and I've not noticed any difference. Can't say bills are cheaper or more expensive. I just feel a bit better I'm not investing in fracking.
