Fracking

Lancashire voted NO to Fracking but it's been forced on us by the Government. We don't want it! What can we do?

user1471509443, I don't think a million is happening either. lol.

the process for these things is a bit of a mystery.
what happens is that the frackers have to gather the materials
and set up the power, water and roads. this can take a few weeks and can be disruptive.

then they drill. This can take a few weeks and is not disruptive.

Then, when they find the spot. They Frack. This takes half a second
is not disruptive except in the rare circumstance when it is detected
as a level 2 seismic event by a bored scientist.

then the cheap gas is pumped , often for years. and nobody would ever know that the pump and well head was ever there.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 14/02/2017 22:23

I had no idea the process was so intensely water-hungry. Say we get another drought of the scale of 1975/6?

UnderCrackers5 · 14/02/2017 22:25

we lose ten times that amount through water leaks every day. Plus, they have to pay for the water :)

Againstfracking · 14/02/2017 22:32

Crackers ... until there's a spill, or a bigger earthquake? Have you read about the birth defects in horses near one Fracking well in USA?

Your fairyland image would be wonderful were it true. But it really isn't. If you are happy to take the risks then I respect your wish to do that... but it's not nice to pretend that those of us who don't want to take those risks are just making stuff up and over reacting to nonsense?

OP posts:
MissingMySleep · 14/02/2017 22:32

dear undercrackers, you are right that subsidies are a different form of benefit to a tax break, however the scale of the "gift" from our government, oh sorry, from our taxes, to the fracking industry is likely to make it a bigger cash prize than the renewables subsidies ever were

George Osborne called them the 'most generous tax breaks in world' when he set the shale gas breaks in place

we are talking about tax breaks, it is like being at work

Againstfracking · 14/02/2017 22:36

And it's not about the amount as you know, it's the fact that it becomes (amongst other things) radioactive waste.
It's not just leaking clean water
Sigh

UnderCrackers5 · 14/02/2017 22:38

AgainstFracking I am sorry to hear about the horse defects near a well in the USA.
I like horses.
I sincererly hope the horses near the other 999,999 wells do not get as upset as you appear to have been.

UnderCrackers5 · 14/02/2017 22:43

missingmySleep

There is no way in a million years that a tax break can add a penny to a companies ledger.

do you not see that ?

There is no way in a million years that a subsidy can not be a drain on the public purse.

do you not see that ?

Againstfracking · 14/02/2017 22:45

Crackers I am sad for their horses and I'm sad for anyone who's forced to live near something that might poison them and make their community poorly for someone else's profit.
I don't like bullies.
We said NO remember. A lot of us.

MissingMySleep · 14/02/2017 22:45

undercrackers that is pants and just not true

I think you are talking about old fashioned drilling

A letter from Cuadrilla in a local magazine in 2015 said it was aiming for between 80 and 100 wellpads in the Fylde

MissingMySleep · 14/02/2017 22:47

yes dear I do see it.

I have been an accountant for over 30 years. Qualified. Very good at it.

I am well versed in how tax breaks work.

MissingMySleep · 14/02/2017 22:49

Dear undercrackers, I give up. You are just not making sense and also some of the things you are saying are blatantly untrue.

This is a waste of both our evenings.

My opinions might be wrong but the facts I refer to are accurate.

Good night and God Bless.

Againstfracking · 14/02/2017 22:52

Missing :)
Maybe a Shill?

I am glad you see it.

Clarify the fylde well pads for me. I don't get that one.

UnderCrackers5 · 14/02/2017 22:57

AgainstFracking a shill ?

play the ball. not the man.

this is what has gone wrong with the left. They refuse to debate. They name call. They refuse to treat people fairly.

I am not a shill. I am a normal person, with a real opinion.
Do not try to shout me down

UnderCrackers5 · 14/02/2017 23:03

Anyway, fracking might reduce our energy bill by little, but why are other countries paying a fifth what we pay for energy? and why are others paying five times more ?
Its almost entirely due to so called 'green' policies

Againstfracking · 14/02/2017 23:07

Crackers no one is shouting. You just aren't really 'playing ball?' You aren't checking your facts? You are being a tad rude and occasionally sarcastic? And despite much evidence being presented to you, you haven't acknowledged one fact as true. It's all simply dismissed as rubbish?

A lot of these discussions do get infiltrated by people who are financed by the beastly fracking industry.

Obviously... they stand to lose millions if we 'concerned voters' manage to stop them.
I'm glad you aren't one... but one will come!

OP posts:
Againstfracking · 14/02/2017 23:10

It won't reduce our energy prices. The govt and the Frackers have stated that.
Lol so you are against green policies?
Do you believe in global warming? Or are you a 'climate change denier?'

OP posts:
UnderCrackers5 · 14/02/2017 23:16

AgainstFracking
Obviously I have checked my facts, but I am not so stupid to believe that two people seeing the same facts will come to the same conclusion. They wont.
You have to apply your judgement. I have never met a single human being who thought they had poor judgement.
The people who are undecided, or not really sure, will read this then make their minds up.

So present your argument. avoid alarmism. and be fair

UnderCrackers5 · 14/02/2017 23:19

OMG. what on earth is a 'climate change denier' ?

UnderCrackers5 · 14/02/2017 23:20

Hands up if you though the climate never changed. evah . lol

UnderCrackers5 · 14/02/2017 23:26

Hang on. Im starting to get the message. If we don't do fracking, we can keep the climate perfect. like it was when andy pandy came out on the bbc. or when sugar rationing ended in the uk.

Againstfracking · 14/02/2017 23:27

Crackers. Then you've never met anyone whose done reflective practice training. It's really interesting and teaches you to always question your actions and judgement.
In my line of work it's taken very seriously. Maybe you could give it a go? You might really enjoy it.

I'm tired now. Climate change, green policies and your opinion on 'reflective practice' can all wait til tomorrow.
Night night

Undercrackers I am amazed to hear that the "earthquake" in Blackpool could not be felt by humans as I live very near Blackpool, on a busy road where busses and lorries pass regularly yet I felt that tremor and noted the time as it was sharper and bigger although I didn't know what it was at the time. I even went to the front door to check if there had been an accident that caused it. Maybe I have superpowers, although that would mean quite a few other people round here have them as they felt it too

I am very concerned about fracking. It seems that it is being pushed through in the North to enrich fat cats and my worry is that controls and regulations will be bypassed in the rush to do it. No doubt, if anything goes wrong, we will be the ones to suffer while the money will be long gone

UnderCrackers5 · 14/02/2017 23:34

Reflective Practices is known as 'closing the stable door after the horse has bolted' in my discipline.
We have a different approach, which is a lot harder. practised by the police, military etc its called 'getting it right first time'
