MN clique

I'm a regular poster, and have name changed for this.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be a clique here? Some people's posts always get answered and they seem like a happy friendly little group. If you're 'new' or haven't posted that much, you pretty much get ignored.

I enjoy reading the posts, and I enjoy posting, but this 'exclusivity' is really getting to me. This is supposed to be a place people can come with their problems/jokes etc, and to feel like some people are 'left out' kinda defeats the object IMHO.

OP posts:
DorkusDelonghi · 05/02/2017 20:05

I was in a bun fighty thing once and someone PM'd me to tell me to lay off the arguing because the other poster had a reputation for being "a few bricks short of a full load" Shock

I thought that was very funny.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2017 20:06

That's quite a useful PM Dorkus. Like a public information broadcast. Grin

DorkusDelonghi · 05/02/2017 20:08

Haha 😂 sparkling

ClashCityRocker · 05/02/2017 20:13

I was once on a forum where you could 'thank' people.

You'd get an email saying 'johnwaynesbuttplug, crazy69 and jellycat37 thank you for your useful post'.

It made you feel so validated. I'd hate to think johnwaynesbuttplug didn't think my post was useful.

The slightly worrying thing is johnwaynesbuttplug came up on my predicative text.

Foxysoxy01 · 05/02/2017 20:19

I feel a bit odd outing them tbh. I think it might make me as bad as the person that sent me the msg?

It was quite a shitty message first message tbh. I did send one back saying I still thought they were wrong and shouldn't be mean to the original poster as it would actually make things worse and they sent me a couple more getting more annoyed that I didn't seem impressed by the MN mafia and that I dared to disagree with them.

I will forward the pm to mumsnet if you think I need too?

UnbornMortificado · 05/02/2017 20:35

Foxy I'd out them personally.

It's bullying.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 05/02/2017 20:41

I can't keep up Blush
I agree it's unfair to try & isolate a MNetter

LouisevilleLlama · 05/02/2017 20:44

I've never had an impromptu PM Sad then I find out there's people warning others that they shouldn't talk to people, what to post, that they're a few bricks short of a full load, and insurance!

Highalert · 05/02/2017 20:46

It's all going on by PM. The PMs sound more interesting than the boards.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2017 20:46

I was actually chatting with another MNetter about insurance. It wasn't a spam PM from Churchill or owt. Grin

picklemepopcorn · 05/02/2017 20:53

I've noticed people seem to bunch together at times. So thread about school stays on track for a fair while, then a few posters get into a discussion about independent vs state or church vs secular. The same people seem get together for a bunfight on multiple threads. Ditto religion, trans, male violence etc. The original issue gets lost in what feels like an established and familiar argument with familiar posters. Not a clique though...

ilovesooty · 05/02/2017 20:53

Sparkling and I did exchange PM s about pubs in my home town in my youth (a bit further back than her youth but the pub's still there) Gin

I don't think we told each other to ignore anyone. Seriously I think if someone tries to get someone isolated via group PM it's disgraceful and MNHQ need to know.

TheNiffler · 05/02/2017 20:55

There's no isolating of posters on here. FFS I've been here donkeys years, my old name was pretty well known, and I've loads of posters on here that I'd consider friends, and I've had plenty of threads wither and die, with nary a response to them.

I didn't cry into my pillow, I just accepted that either they were incredibly dull, I posted at the wrong time of day, or nobody knew the answer. Or all three. Even when I was new, I wouldn't have been so self absorbed as to think I was being deliberately ignored. It's like a teenager who's convinced everybody is looking at them when they go out, because they've a tiny pimple on their nose.

ilovesooty · 05/02/2017 20:58

I think those messages Foxy received are a bit concerning though.

LouisevilleLlama · 05/02/2017 21:01

Ooh I got a PM, I've been inducted into MN all is good In the world Grin I'm not saying I got a list of who I can't talk to, but I can't deny my pool of possible MN interactions has grown a lot shorter in the time it took me to read the PM Wink

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/02/2017 21:05

Shit! If anyone reports the PMs I sent today I'll be banned fo sho.Blush

I've noticed that too Pickled. It's irritating, puts people off posting and makes MN an easy target for trolls.

BillyDaveysDaughter · 05/02/2017 21:05

I've been around a year or so and have never name changed. I don't create many threads or post especially often, but when I do there is tumbleweed...

I think I'm hilarious, but I wonder if I'm actually just fucking boring.

Never noticed a genuine clique, but there are long time posters who "know" each other - presumably it's the same as waltzing into a bar of regulars where you're not known. No one is going to leap off their seats to slap you on the back for turning up, they'll wait for you to contribute.

KatieScarlett · 05/02/2017 21:07

That's it exactly Billy

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 05/02/2017 21:08

I had a PM but only because I said I never get PMs :)
Wasn't a horrible one Grin

TheNiffler · 05/02/2017 21:10

Spill Llama that's either a PM from an arse, or a PM telling you someone's an arse.

PurpleDaisies · 05/02/2017 21:15

Most of the pms I've sent are dull things that would out me-recommendations for a local solicitor etc. I've never been called to arms on anything. Perhaps I'm missing something. Smile

PurpleDaisies · 05/02/2017 21:16

Actually I've just remembered I got a spam one about linescale remover. Rock and roll. Grin

LouisevilleLlama · 05/02/2017 21:16

KatieScarlett · 05/02/2017 21:19

I got a journo once.
I deleted that double quick and got out the holy water.

PerpendicularVincent · 05/02/2017 21:19

I rarely get PMs, and when I do they're nice. I feel like I'm missing out.

I once had to take pripsen and threw up afterwards.
