David Beckham's leaked emails

I thought he came across rather well on Desert Island disks the other day, but AIBU to be glad that DB has been exposed?

I've always regarded the Beckhams as a textbook example of much that's wrong with our celeb-culture, accumulating vast wealth and renown on the coat-tails of very mediocre talent.

Now it seems the charitable work was all in aid of securing a knighthood.

So what if he did say it. It was a private email. I very much doubt they asked for $1 million and if they did he had every right to turn it down. They must be asked daily for money and/or help with charities. He could be saying it tongue in cheek, he could have said it to let off steam but what ever he said he said in private and would not have meant it to be heard by anyone else.

I say some really harsh things about other people to my husband sometimes just to make myself feel better. But don't really mean it and would never say it if I thought it would be heard by anyone else.

Obviously naive (stupid) to write these things down but hacking is fucking vile.

I don't even like the Beckhams but in this case the people reporting it And the scum that hacked it are wrong.

GoesDownLikeACupOfColdSick · 04/02/2017 09:53

I've always thought he was a genuinely nice guy. A family friend of ours had a daughter with severe cerebral palsy who was in a bit of a bad way. She absolutely loved Man Utd and particularly beckham. DF was able to arrange for her to watch them train and sit on the pitch, which she was so excited about.

Someone told beckham that he was her favourite, so after training he sat with her for about 2 hours just chatting about life and football. He could just have given her an autograph and she would have been over the moon - he really went above and beyond, and I've always remembered that.

Giddyaunt18 · 04/02/2017 09:53

I don't see why he deserves a knighthood? He was quite a good football player but also badly let England down when they needed him most by kicking out. Lots of celebs support charities. What's he famous for now? being half of a very famous(for not very much) couple. As with Andy Murray they are just too young to be knighted, let's see what they do with the rest of their lives. I don't mind DB but think the way he was fawned over for leaning out of his car window to check someone involved in an accident was ok, was over the top. What about all the other passers by that were there getting their hands dirty?

Loraline · 04/02/2017 09:53

I think this is probably an unreliable story based possibly on criminal activity. But the press have a right to report that it has happened

Wrong. It's personal and even if true is not newsworthy. They're not politicians doing something dodgy by email. He's a footballer who is bitching a bit. I fundamentally disagree that they have a 'right ' to print illegally obtained personal correspondence. This is what ended the NOTW.

And for those pointing out they it's from the Sun well, they're worse. Stablemates of NOTW and the Sun on Sunday merely replaced it.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 04/02/2017 09:54

Hilarious - he's clearly been desperate for an knighthood for ages. Grin

David Beckham is always spaffing stuff about his children on twitter. Does no one remember the the photo a few Christmases ago of the children allegedly at their great grandparents' "graves". It looked like a headstone that had been put up specially for the ocassion in garden. But that aside, anyone who tweets photos of surely private moments like that would be a hypocrite of the highest order to then complain about their children's privacy being invaded.

Giddyaunt18 · 04/02/2017 09:55

If they were his emails, he could decline professionally and politely. No excuse for those expletives !

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/02/2017 09:56

Oh dear he has upset someone

when someone sells themselves to the media as they have done that is who will control your downfall if you are not compliant. trouble is there is no doubt they have given money away and helped charities immensely but the brand Beckenham always receives something in return

Giddyaunt18 · 04/02/2017 10:01

Anyone who only wears pants fresh from a packet before giving them away has got to be a bit Hmm

BakeOffBiscuits · 04/02/2017 10:02

The emails are true! You only have to read the PR comment, which is trying to confuse people.

If they weren't true they would have said "These emails are completely fabricated and our lawyers have been notified"

The think I cannot stand about the Beckhams is the way they have pimped their children to the press inorder to grow their "brand". Those children deserve a childhood with privacy. In the UK it is very easy to stop photographers taking pictures of under 18s and they have chosen not to do this.

TheFairyCaravan · 04/02/2017 10:03

I can't stand him.

He'd sell his kids to the devil if it meant keeping his face and name in the papers. It's been obvious that he's been after a knighthood for years. Loads of people do charity work, alongside their jobs. Just because we know Beckham's name doesn't mean he deserves a knighthood.

museumum · 04/02/2017 10:03

I can't see the main point here.
If you do charity work and lead national campaigns for stuff like the World Cup and help with the olympics bid then you'd be up there with others who do get honours from the queen.
Also, if you agree to do marketing for a charity you don't also agree to give them a million pounds.

And on the planes thing tbh I very much doubt he fills out his own expenses forms. Surely that's a PAs job.

MrsArthurShappey · 04/02/2017 10:05

Fucked if I'm clicking on that link. What does it say about Katherine Jenkins? She's someone I have a completely irrational hatred of.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 04/02/2017 10:06

I don't think many people who give and work for charity do it for purely altruistic reasons tbh. There's almost always something in it for the giver - be it boosting confidence, publicity, self worth. It's irrelevant really as long as the charity benefits - he could do none of it, keep his money and still be rich and famous.

I'm fairly neutral about the Beckhams so to me this could be headlined 'bloke slags off others to his mate in email' which could be said about most of us.

Livelovebehappy · 04/02/2017 10:09

This pair are the biggest social climbers in the celeb world. Try to airbrush their past as they're ashamed of how they got to where they are. And if you read the leaked emails, they are embarrassingly full of grammatical errors and spelling mistakes.

elodie2000 · 04/02/2017 10:11

cathf I'm interested in the way 'news' is presented (or rather, media manipulation).
I read different papers (on-line & actual) every day and I have contempt for them all! Grin.

DragonitesRule · 04/02/2017 10:13

VB more deserving for services to fashion? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Thanks for the genuine lol this morning!

elodie2000 · 04/02/2017 10:15

cathf As for buying the DM, Times, Guardian, Sun... Or being 'caught' reading them... I don't care who sees me! Do people really worry about that? Grin

celeste84 · 04/02/2017 10:18

Isn't there laws against hacking into emails? Angry

BillSykesDog · 04/02/2017 10:23

If they were his emails, he could decline professionally and politely. No excuse for those expletives !

He's a footballer. Not a QC.

differentnameforthis · 04/02/2017 10:25

I disagree that the DF is MN nickname for the Mail generally though - You're wrong about that. Daily Mail has been known as the Daily Fail on MN for years.

Bundao · 04/02/2017 10:26

His private emails, the key word is private. It's no ones business what he says or doesn't say. I don't give a fuck. It sounds like a deliberate ploy by the DM to stir the pot and get people interested in the Beckhams again.

HelenaGWells · 04/02/2017 10:30

This isn't Daily Mail rubbish at all. The Sun have put it on their front page this morning,

You know because the sun is a bastion of truth and virtue Hmm

I've not read it but it seems his crime is doing charity work because he wanted a knighthood? And possibly not giving someone a million pounds?

Even if it's true who the fuck cares. He has done a lot for charity and for individuals over the years (as referenced by pps experience) yes it's more humble if it's not spread everywhere but firstly lots of charities want the exposure. Being a charity publically supported and endorsed by a big name can bring a lot more donations in. Secondly he's still actually doing things for charities. They still benefit whatever his motivations.

He has a shittonne of cash. He probably gets literally hundreds of begging letters each week. He is perfectly entitled to decide who he chooses to give money to.

cathf · 04/02/2017 10:35

Different, I agree it is widely used but in the context of contempt, as shorthand that the poster does not approve.

LuluJakey1 · 04/02/2017 10:36

Although the grammar in it is not perfect, I would be astonished if David Beckham can write with this level of accuracy- he is as thick as mince.

Do we really imagine he does his charity work for altruistic reasons?

Runny · 04/02/2017 10:40

Oh please, read my comment properly. The Sun have taken the story from a French publication. I think the reason that some posters are struggling to grasp any of this is because we've had nearly 20 years of fawning over the Beckhams in the media, and many people have been conditioned into thinking that they are a Wondeful, happy family when if rumours are to believed they are anything but.

Remember the press only tell us what they want us to know, and of it serves them to protect certain people then obviously they will do so. I think the tide started to turn against them when they started pushing the kids into the Spotlight. Let them be kids ffs.
