David Beckham's leaked emails

I thought he came across rather well on Desert Island disks the other day, but AIBU to be glad that DB has been exposed?

I've always regarded the Beckhams as a textbook example of much that's wrong with our celeb-culture, accumulating vast wealth and renown on the coat-tails of very mediocre talent.

Now it seems the charitable work was all in aid of securing a knighthood.

there's that old saying isn't there? The upper class and the working class have the most in common and it's everyone in the middle that's déclassé

Put about by upper class people who are doing the fucking and working class people who don't realise they're being fucked.

Nothing wrong with being sharp elbowed and trying to rise to the middle. But this time, Beckham has been caught

BillSykesDog · 06/02/2017 14:10

Ooooh, good idea steamy. I am most open to PMs on subject if not on thread.

Morsecode · 06/02/2017 14:13

Interesting that the Dale Maily mentions names and context of the injunction, although not the details. Along with about 100 articles on Beckham. Are they hoping for something?

limitedperiodonly · 06/02/2017 14:15

Although why Becks got a tax red flag and PG didn't is questionable.

It's not. Beckham participated in a tax avoidance scheme run by a company called Ingenious which involved investments in loss-making films. That was ruled inadmissable by HMRC so he and many thousands of other investors have had to pay the tax back with interest.

Sir Philip Green's machinations over BHS, Arcadia and its property and pension funds have so far been ruled legal.

limitedperiodonly · 06/02/2017 14:16

You could start with Football Leaks. It's on nothing more secretive than Google

BillSykesDog · 06/02/2017 14:18

Thanks limited, that explains it re tax.

But the football leaks thing only has the stuff released by the Sun already, not the injunction stuff.

DameVanillaSugar · 06/02/2017 14:19

I think limited is confusing common with blatant self-promoter.

ihatethecold · 06/02/2017 14:25

I haven't read the leak or link at the start of the thread, What did he say about Katherine Jenkins?

BillSykesDog · 06/02/2017 14:29

That she didn't deserve an OBE and was a cokehead. Which incidentally has made me warm to her. I like the idea she spent the 90s spaffed off her nut at raves.

limitedperiodonly · 06/02/2017 14:29

Sorry Bill I don't read The Sun so didn't know its content. I don't have any ideological problem with it. I find Mail Online more user friendly Wink

Dame I'm sometimes confused but not in this case

limitedperiodonly · 06/02/2017 14:31

What's the specific question about the injunction? Someone I know might know that.

ihatethecold · 06/02/2017 14:45

Thanks Billsykes

My Dh has met a few of the people on this thread due to working at the palace. All I will say is he wasn't keen on KJ.

BillSykesDog · 06/02/2017 14:47

Nobody seems to know. The Sun on Saturday broke all the stuff on Sat morning about UNICEF and the knighthood and it was known that the Sunday Times was going to follow it up the next day with further revelations. Then an 'unnamed celebrity' got an injunction against the Sunday Times on Saturday night and it seems like the nature of 'further revelations' still remains unknown.

BillSykesDog · 06/02/2017 14:48

Well if you find out limited, PM me.

LagunaBubbles · 06/02/2017 14:50

And why shouldn't he make decisions about how he chooses to donate money. Load of fuss about nothing, twisted to make him look bad

Not just donating money though is it...Demanding the BBC pay for a private jet when he can well afford to pay for it himself? Hmm

piefacerecords · 06/02/2017 14:51

In this day and age I can't understand at all why a 'knighthood' still even exists, let alone be revered.

It is and always has been dodgy as hell - anyone remember Jimmy Savile?

Floisme · 06/02/2017 14:55

Allegations about misusing charity status or funding are of public interest and if true, no sympathy from me.

Comments about education, squeaky voices and unauthorised medal wearing: Thank you, also very revealing, if not of the Beckhams.

limitedperiodonly · 06/02/2017 16:00

Some people have secured injunctions because they have convinced a judge that vulnerable people, usually children but not always, would be damaged by the publication of allegations.

No idea whether that is the case here or if any such injunction exists in this case.

That's just the way judges sometimes think.

CaraAspen · 06/02/2017 16:02

"limitedperiodonly

Have you missed all the stories about Sir Bradley Wiggins's package Dame?

Personally, I like him. But it is a bit...you know."
I like him too. I might be able to suggest a cure for his asthma.

As for Wayne, now I REALLY hope he is knighted if only to see Beckham try to squeak and froth from the mouth at the same time.

PoundingTheStreets · 06/02/2017 16:15

Haven't read it so don't really know the content, but I was under the impression it is 'allegations' taken out of context at this stage not 'facts'.

I think we've all said things in private we would be mortified about if aired. I have some sympathy with him on that count.

That said, I think he and his wife have to accept that having courted publicity for decades, this is the other, less desirable, side of the coin.

derxa · 06/02/2017 16:48

As for Wayne, now I REALLY hope he is knighted if only to see Beckham try to squeak and froth from the mouth at the same time. After the 'Auld Slapper' incident I doubt it.

DameVanillaSugar · 06/02/2017 16:50

Sir Wayne Rooney - for devices to the Trichology industry.

DameVanillaSugar · 06/02/2017 16:51

Devices???? SERVICES.

MercyMyJewels · 06/02/2017 16:59

Yes noone will let Wayne forget that, but Becks' infidelities are between him and his wife and none of anyone's business

CaraAspen · 06/02/2017 17:00

Well said, Mercy.
Hypocritical much??
