I thought he came across rather well on Desert Island disks the other day, but AIBU to be glad that DB has been exposed?

I've always regarded the Beckhams as a textbook example of much that's wrong with our celeb-culture, accumulating vast wealth and renown on the coat-tails of very mediocre talent.

Now it seems the charitable work was all in aid of securing a knighthood.

I don't know what you mean by 'class'. Other people have mocked his lack of education and tone of voice. I find those things distasteful.

True. Though Sir Bradley Wiggins has won a lot of medals but I think he could be placed in the 'a bit...you know...' file. And Sir Philip Green too.

However, they were knighted before the unfortunate thing about BHS's accounts or Bradley's battles with asthma came to light. I wasn't aware of anyone objecting on the grounds that they didn't have enough O levels or some nebulous concept of classiness.

Genuine question. There was mention upthread of DB's work with youth football. What does he do? because all I recall were the failed academies opened with outside investment and sponsorship. I think they operated for around four years and there was a lot of ill feeling when the London one closed down, including from his own sister

Couldn't care less what he said in his emails- if you can't call someone a cunt in the privacy of your own email account, what's the world coming to? And why shouldn't he make decisions about how he chooses to donate money. Load of fuss about nothing, twisted to make him look bad. It's vile that the papers have printed this stuff- gross invasion of his privacy.

What's more, he should have a sodding knighthood. He's done loads of stuff for the country and for charity. And if he only did it in the hope of a knighthood, who cares?

I don't think Wiggins is a bit... you know. I think he's an excellent, determined sportsman who wouldn't dream of showing off about his medals even though he was distinctly told not to.
