David Beckham's leaked emails

I thought he came across rather well on Desert Island disks the other day, but AIBU to be glad that DB has been exposed?

I've always regarded the Beckhams as a textbook example of much that's wrong with our celeb-culture, accumulating vast wealth and renown on the coat-tails of very mediocre talent.

Now it seems the charitable work was all in aid of securing a knighthood.

"My name is Bond, James Bond", he squeaked

cowgirlsareforever · 06/02/2017 11:38

Maybe the dc will be encouraged to follow movie careers?

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 06/02/2017 11:39

If he could remember the line.

Grammy78 · 06/02/2017 11:39

Charlize Theron could be the love interest if he was James Bond, there was a real chemistry between them when they did the World Cup draw together. Katherine Jenkins could sing the theme song.

BillSykesDog · 06/02/2017 11:48

I also don't understand why David Beckham needed to set up his own charity when he could operate under the name of Unicef.

I think you've answered your own question. Because just operating under the UNICEF banner wouldn't bring the same tax advantages.

That other high profile UN representative Angelina Jolie interestingly has exactly the same sort of UK based fund.

I have a sneaking suspicion that UN based charities are the current tax dodge of choice.

DameVanillaSugar · 06/02/2017 11:50

Going back to why David doesn't have a knighthood. ... he blew it at Will & Kate's wedding. The instructions clearly stated "No medals". Not only did DB flout this, but he committed the cardinal sun of wearing his OBE medal ON THE WRONG SIDE.

Money can't buy you class. And I don't mean social status, but I do mean manners. Hull's Bee Lady deserves to become a Dame because she works tirelessly for charity and is a legend for all the right reasons.

DB and VB are just a bit..... you know.....

limitedperiodonly · 06/02/2017 11:51

It's of legitimate public interest if someone is attempting to get one of the highest awards in our honours system, which is respected not just in Britain but around the world, while privately behaving in a manner of which most people would not approve.

limitedperiodonly · 06/02/2017 11:52

I think you've answered your own question.

I was trying to be subtle Bill. It's always been my failing, unlike David and Victoria Wink

Rugbyplayersarehot · 06/02/2017 11:57

money can't buy you class Grin my dm says this and she's as commen as muck Smile bless her.

DameVanillaSugar · 06/02/2017 11:59

Well, yes - but there's a difference between having class and not being classy, despite anyone's background IYSWIM.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 06/02/2017 11:59

I do remember rumors that DB kicked up a fuss that he wasn't given a prominent role in the London Olympic ceremony and it had be changed as there was a threat he would be busy

I think DB biggest crime is believe his own hype largely created by his pr team tax dodging is no doubt advised to him along with the public appearances but when you are constantly told how great it will be you showing up it's easy to start believing in your own self importance. And DB really doesn't have the intelligence to see through that

BillSykesDog · 06/02/2017 12:09

Ah. Whereas I am about as subtle as a brick in the face through your front window limited. Bit like Pish n Kecks or whatever their name is.

piefacerecords · 06/02/2017 12:10

Don't know why people are so {shock] that RL was happy to wank off a pig.

She'd already shown she had a strong stomach for that kind of thing Grin

And as an aside - I have no sympathy for the Beckhams - you reap what you sow...

limitedperiodonly · 06/02/2017 12:16

DB and VB are just a bit..... you know.....

Don't agree with your assessment DameVanillaSugar or others who go on about how common David Beckham is and how thick he is or how squeaky his voice.

That's not why honours were invented, and people who say that show themselves to be ignorant of history and rather unpleasant.

He's just shown himself to be unsuitable for a knighthood or any honour and I would doubt if anyone would be brazen enough to give him one now.

MercyMyJewels · 06/02/2017 12:29

Oooo Spank me!

BillSykesDog · 06/02/2017 12:31

I would doubt if anyone would be brazen enough to give him one now.

Pnarr.

Sorry.

Rugbyplayersarehot · 06/02/2017 12:41

Dame yes totally agree. Wink

Sorry wanked off a pig!!!

BillSykesDog · 06/02/2017 12:47

RL and Pish should get together and have a chat about that shared interest in pig husbandry

DameVanillaSugar · 06/02/2017 13:00

OK, I'll rephrase it. David Beckham is too flash and grabby to deserve a knighthood. If he did get one, how long would it be before he started walking around in a gold-played suit of armour?

Danny Boyle deserves one and the fact that he turned it down when offered one speaks volumes and I love the man even more for that.

limitedperiodonly · 06/02/2017 13:09

Didn't spot that one Bill. Smile

I just find it tiresome that people are saying David Beckham is not a suitable candidate for an honour because he's common, says 'would of' or is allegedly thick.

I don't think either Victoria and David is unintelligent. I think they do not have the education that some people have, but that's not uncommon and neither is it a crime, no matter what some tiresome snobs on MN say. They also display poor judgement which isn't a crime either, necessarily, but isn't good.

But it appears that his charitable works are primarily aimed at getting an honour which confers much in terms of status and income. Those things are very important to the Beckhams. Perhaps more so than to other people.

That brings our honours system into disrepute and therefore is a legitimate news story and may be worthy of publishing his private correspondence.

CaraAspen · 06/02/2017 13:13

"MercyMyJewels

Teehee

Which one is David Beckham...

????

BillSykesDog · 06/02/2017 13:14

True, limited. Plus neither of them pursued a traditional academic education for the full length of time. VB went to theatre school and DB was on a football YTS scheme at 14. So they might not have brilliant grammar, but that was sacked off in favour of getting really good at football and, er, being Posh.

CaraAspen · 06/02/2017 13:15

"Tomorrowillbeachicken

If he could remember the line."

Haha. Maybe he can improvise?

limitedperiodonly · 06/02/2017 13:15

David Beckham is too flash and grabby to deserve a knighthood.

Nell Gwyn was flash and grabby by 17th century standards. Her son by Charles II was made a duke.

That's how the honours system works, though these days we do try to pretend it's about merit. Therefore he IMO he shouldn't get one.

Otherwise the next step would be for him to sit in the House of Lords alongside Lord Sugar and Lady Brady.

DameVanillaSugar · 06/02/2017 13:19

I have NEVER said that David Beckham is common. Ever.
