I also don't understand why David Beckham needed to set up his own charity when he could operate under the name of Unicef.
Unicef is a well known and respected brand. I'd never heard of the 7 Foundation before listening to Beckham talking about it on Desert Island Discs. I understand it carries the number of his Man Utd shirt and one of his wheezes was to play exhibition games in seven countries and it's his daughter's middle name too, but it all seems a bit of a faff to me.
More importantly, it risks wasting funds in admin costs when you could just turn up under the umbrella of Unicef.
However, I believe there are tax advantages to giving to charity. David and Victoria set another one up at the time of the 2006 World Cup culminating in a raffle when they invited Sven and Nancy, Liz Hurley and Elton and lots of celebrities to a ball at their house in Hertfordshire on the eve of the tournament.
Their umbrella of choice that time was that little known charity the NSPCC.
I'm sorry for bringing that up btw. I think the England squad's performance at that World Cup and the WAG phenomenon is best forgotten.
