David Beckham's leaked emails

parrots · 04/02/2017 08:53

I thought he came across rather well on Desert Island disks the other day, but AIBU to be glad that DB has been exposed?

I've always regarded the Beckhams as a textbook example of much that's wrong with our celeb-culture, accumulating vast wealth and renown on the coat-tails of very mediocre talent.

Now it seems the charitable work was all in aid of securing a knighthood.

Could of is an error and it is not due to any dialect; it is due to ignorance.
Grammar is forever shifting. Do you use the grammar Shakespeare used?

MercyMyJewels · 04/02/2017 22:07

Derxa
"Grammar is forever shifting".

Can we all just make up our own grammatical roooolz then?

Watzz Yeerszz 'ehn!@{

SingingInTheRainstorm · 04/02/2017 22:17

I personally think someone is jealous and just out to get him. In all honesty he deserves a knighthood. Good enough to go to Kate & Wills wedding, but considered what he's done not good enough to be a Sir.

I would say if he feels so strongly about it he could make himself a Lord for £50!

KingMortificadosMistress · 04/02/2017 22:32

In all honesty he deserves a knighthood

I've read some crap on here in my time but this really takes the biscuit.

What the hell for?

He was a very average footballer who occassionally showed moments of genius. He was never part of a national team that achieved ANYTHING! Nothing. Not even getting to a major tournament final.

He was a bad role model as a footballer(aforementioned petulant lashing out by kicking when representing his country, being sent off which certainly contributed to the match loss) and a bad role model as a person (Rebecca Loos and the others).

If there is any truth in these emails, his "charity work" is entirely self interested and done to generate a public honour. The point about not putting in his own money and claiming for a business class flight he never took if true are disgraceful. I know a number of people who sit on charity boards who earn nothing compared to him and don't even claim for train fares - treating the travel expenses they pay as part of their donation/contribution to the charity.

Celebrities get tapped up for charity work all the time. Its what they all do for their own PR. If someone deserves a public honour for their contribution to charity, it should be going above and beyond that normal expected, turn up, smile and get the PR (and/or tax advantages of setting up trusts etc) - and certainly not for the bare minimum.

What exactly has he ever done to warrant a knighthood ? Even if you think he deserves some kind of public honour, an OBE is way more than enough.

MercyMyJewels · 04/02/2017 22:35

Gasps!

Yes! And I will of course kneel before him when he is to be called "Sir". And can sit in the House of Lords.. Grin

Uh oh - isn't this the best argument for banning the fuckers

Still they let Michelle Mone in

PetalMettle · 04/02/2017 23:31

Knights don't get in the HoL
Incidentally I think Wayne and Coleen do a LOT of charity stuff

KingMortificadosMistress · 05/02/2017 00:13

Ha! If I were on the honours commitee I would 100% be lobbying for Wayne to have a knighthood! Not because he deserves it but to piss someone else off mightily... That would be priceless wouldn't it? Imagine the look on his face when he found out.

CaraAspen · 05/02/2017 00:53

Give Wayne a knighthood, Queen. That would be really annoying for the whining, sweary Beckham. He would of not expected that.

CaraAspen · 05/02/2017 00:54

Oh God, my finger hurts. I typed a massive grammatical error to make a point.

VocalDuck · 05/02/2017 00:59

Considering who has received knighthoods I can understand why he feels he should of done as well.

11122aa · 05/02/2017 00:59

No more new exposes in the Sunday papers tomorrow.

CaraAspen · 05/02/2017 00:59

Grammar is NOT "forever shifting". Don't be silly.

CaraAspen · 05/02/2017 00:59

"VocalDuck

Considering who has received knighthoods I can understand why he feels he should of done as well."

Ouchy.

CaraAspen · 05/02/2017 01:15

"In fairness, it was never going to be easy for David Beckham to repair his shredded public image.

But in giving it his best shot yesterday, he offered an extraordinary excuse, insisting through friends that he was a ‘normal person’ who was just ‘extremely disappointed’ at being passed over for a knighthood."

Wonderfully humble and hugely delusional.

Lucy7400 · 05/02/2017 01:45

I dont think the emails look genuine. They look to me like they are either made up or a joke. Surely no one thinks that way Confused

derxa · 05/02/2017 04:31

It is too early to treat this latest stage in the development of English with any certainty, but guesses. The major change that net writing is likely to have on English is a merging of the grammars of spoken English and written English. In the eighteenth century, it was decided to censure double negatives, double comparatives, misplaced modifiers, terminal prepositions, and split infinitives. Today, those rules are on the slide with the exception of the one against double negative; that is holding up well. Soon English will have forgotten altogether the differences between owing to and due to, less and fewer, who and whom, different from and different to, shall and will, that and which.

Twogoats · 05/02/2017 05:33

Why didn't he sue Rebecca Loos?

PetalMettle · 05/02/2017 06:39

The Sunday times have something on their front page about the fact they've been injuncted by a celeb

parrots · 05/02/2017 07:22

Here's the statement:

The Sunday Times has been gagged by an injunction preventing it from reporting details about a celebrity’s personal and professional life. The judge anonymised the individual using initials. The newspaper is in legal proceedings.

David Beckam is not as wonderful as some people believe.
His wife appears to be a lovely person, but to me he just comes across as an egotistical prat to be honest.

Giddyaunt18 · 05/02/2017 08:40

He is not and has never been the best footballer in the UK/Europe/World. If he gets to 60 and has worked very hard for charities and not sold his and his family's image for his own gain, then ,maybe he'd be in with a shot but right now he is famous for being famous! What about that time he wore his OBE(incorrectly) to the wedding of William and Kate! Apparently they are not to b worn to events like that, nobody else wore one. That just shows what he knows and how showy he is!

isitspringyet · 05/02/2017 09:30

It's the hypocrisy of the 'family man'persona after all his dalliances, but that's for his wife to question not the public.
Extremely uncomfortable with his children exploited in social media, I really don't get how he (or pr) think it's appropriate

Powergower · 05/02/2017 09:40

There were rumours of him being a delusional twat on the celeb treat on mn. I'm not surprised by these emails at all. I'm more surprised by those defending him and claiming he didn't send the emails! Ffs the whole fanily are one big brand sham.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/02/2017 10:06

I wonder if he'll go with Victoria when she picks up her OBE?

Maybe he's miffed that she's now got the same honour as him, he's got an ego that needs massaging after all.

Questions, questions. Smile

MiladyThesaurus · 05/02/2017 10:17

TBH, I'm pretty sure that David Beckham used charity work to try to get a knighthood is a bit of a bears shit in woods story.

Regardless, that Daily Mail article is absolutely abominable. Does the journalist (or the editor) have no idea about how to link sentences together or develop a coherent argument? The standard of writing is unbelievably awful. (I don't generally read the Daily Mail so I'm wondering if the articles are usually so disjointed and badly put together).
