David Beckham's leaked emails

I thought he came across rather well on Desert Island disks the other day, but AIBU to be glad that DB has been exposed?

I've always regarded the Beckhams as a textbook example of much that's wrong with our celeb-culture, accumulating vast wealth and renown on the coat-tails of very mediocre talent.

Now it seems the charitable work was all in aid of securing a knighthood.

still totally apologise and please forgive me I thought it wasn't like you as you are so sensible and funny please forgive my idiot mistake.

Grammy78 · 05/02/2017 10:28

The Mail have posted the story about the injunction right next to a story about David Beckham and the emails.

southeastdweller · 05/02/2017 10:29

Of course, DB doesn't have to go to the trouble and expense of suing - he could just publish the emails. But something tells me he won't.

Rugbyplayersarehot · 05/02/2017 10:30

And the emails look sham but what would you expect from the Daily Fail they hate working class made good. It irritates them. Just like it irritates some mumsnetters.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/02/2017 10:31

Rugby Wink.

ohgoshIdontknow · 05/02/2017 10:32

Stupidly I always thought he was a good guy (wouldn't want to be married to him, tho...).

Now I think he's a selfish over-entitled twat.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 05/02/2017 10:43

Good guys can be selfish too...

Very, very few people are either all good or all bad. 99% of us are somewhere along the spectrum of goodness - and most of us are more good than bad.

LullabelleBates · 05/02/2017 11:05

There's a reason why Victoria Beckham does not stay friends with fellow women for long (save for Longoria). Her fault, not the other way round
He, on the other hand is - not as clean as we are all made to believe however he is likeable.

There's absolutely no reason why anyone should be jealous of the Beckhams- not least because their whole world is built on a brand whose equity is wearing thin because of the emerging of new faces.

PS: I've met both of them via my family member.

CaraAspen · 05/02/2017 11:07

A verb does not morph into a preposition. I am pretty sure that is not what is meant by language evolving.

CaraAspen · 05/02/2017 11:08

Information for anyone who thinks David Beckham is a linguist.

What a laughably simplistic view of reality.

CaraAspen · 05/02/2017 11:17

Powergower

"There were rumours of him being a delusional twat on the celeb treat on mn. I'm not surprised by these emails at all. I'm more surprised by those defending him and claiming he didn't send the emails! Ffs the whole fanily are one big brand sham."

Yep. Don't people have eyes?

LuluJakey1 · 05/02/2017 11:18

Yesterday, the Daily Mail publshed the story- basically reporting the Times story. Today
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4192876/Top-celebrity-secures-new-super-injuction.html#comments

No speculation please or thread will be removed. I don't think any is actually needed.

LuluJakey1 · 05/02/2017 11:22

We have a friend who writes for a national broadsheet- not the one in question- and he says there is a huge amount of very damning stuff which would damage said celebrity and celebrity's wife enormously. He didn't tell us what (he never does, is always circumspect). They are pooing themselves apparently.

hackmum · 05/02/2017 11:32

People have already said this, but several newspapers, not just the Mail, published the story. If the content of the emails had been untrue, Beckham would have sued.

I think the truth is that celebrities are often very different from their public persona. That should be obvious, but it still seems to take us by surprise. Remember how we all used to think that Johnny Depp was absolutely lovely because he did things like turn up announced at that London primary school?

I was always amazed that Beckham wasn't more damaged by the Rebecca Loos allegations, but everyone seems to have decided that he was "nice" and that was that.

I did chuckle at his comments about Katherine Jenkins, though.

LullabelleBates · 05/02/2017 11:33

I've heard the same and by the way I am USA based. What's out there is VERY shocking.
If your system (in England) that awards Knighthoods is aware of what's out there, I think he's blown his chances.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/02/2017 11:35

Lullabelle I'm a nosey bugger and love a bit of gossip, can I pm you?

AlecTrevelyan006 · 05/02/2017 11:39

I'm sure the emails are genuine - I just don't really care that much. The media know more about DB and VB than they publish - but that is also true of most other celebs.

He will ride it out and at some point offer an 'apology' of sorts and the world will move on.

CaraAspen · 05/02/2017 11:40

"I did chuckle at his comments about Katherine Jenkins, though."

I think he knows her pretty well. Allegedly.

Yes, the world will move in but so will the tiniest prospect of him getting the knighthood to which he appears to think he is entitled.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 05/02/2017 11:52

Plenty of celebs do 'nice stuff' out of the goodness of their heart.

Some of them will only sing on the latest charity single, appear on Children in Need or turn up at a charity gala because they think it will help raise the profile, resulting in more more, more money and more accolades.

Just as often it's a case of 'if I can help someone and get a new recording contract, that big acting role or a gong from the Queen' then it's all to the good.

I don't DB is that much different to most others in the celeb world that he lives in.

Bestthingever · 05/02/2017 12:04

It's not a massive shock that celebs do charity work for selfish reasons but the massive sense of entitlement Beckham apparently has regarding a knighthood makes him a bigger prick than I thought he was. I've got no time for him. The sight of his smug face on that speedboat was the low point of the Olympics opening ceremony for me. At the time I couldn't believe people thought he might carry the torch into the stadium. I'm really not sure why anyone thought he merited a high profile role. Oh and I read today that he reckoned he'd worked very hard to win the Olympic bid. Yeah right. It was down to him.

The Sunday times wouldn't care about affair's so it be financial stuff if it's him they gagged by.
