to wonder what planet the 'ban Trump from the UK' people are living on

Yes I understand that he's a sexist, racist, whatever-else-ist.

But he evidently thinks fondly of the UK, we are currently in the process of saying 'fuck off' to mainland Europe, so we will be a small, friendless island in the North Sea in need of some help.

AIBU to think that we need to suffer a bit of schmoozing from dodgy foreign leaders as part of post-Brexit Britain? (Actually didn't we already schmooze dodgy foreign leaders long before Brexit?)

And in reality Trump is rather less dodgy than the average world leader, if we exclude the EU, as we have done

What are the other choices?

No you don't "remember" me from another thread about EU. As I wasn't on the thread

SouthallGirl · 06/02/2017 15:50

we were talking about people who had been extensively vetted already, some going to the US to be trained as doctors, surgeons

I don't know whether USA cherrypicks immigrants, but to use that hackneyed suggestion that some will be trained as doctors and surgeons is tiresome. Do you know how expensive it is to send just one child to college, let alone med school? It is even prohibitive for American parents with stable jobs. Much talent is lost.

FlyMeToTheMoonLiterally · 06/02/2017 15:50

I remember you from the EU Ref thread and the Calais one. You are part of the Open Borders movement who caused chaos in Calais and also incited desperate people to travel at night in the Med to Italy and Greece; some drowned. That last one is not to Ivy, but to FLY. Sorry.

Wtf? Seriously I had to Google the Open Borders movement, that is really funny, I have no fucking idea what you are taking about. Seriously South you are off the wall

What? How does immigrants who have been vetted extensively coming to the US to study to be doctors in small numbers prevent Americans from being doctors???

Wow, you just keep churning out new arguments, don't you. Fuck this shit seriously, you can't be reasoned with.

SouthallGirl · 06/02/2017 16:03

IVY - If you try to put me down, and your posts are full of insult, then it's going to come back at you. None of you can discuss, I've noticed. All you do is try to shoot down iinformation, or you interrogate. You are not interested in debate only with talking in an echo chamber with those who agree with you. My level of knowledge, world travel, experience of many cultures is light years ahead of many on here.

I would love to meet someone on MN with a similar background, but too many seem to be ideological crazies, ignoring important facts such as how can you decant a very large number of people into another country without financial and sociological ramifications for both parties? And where's the welfare money going to come from to support extra mouths, as few asylum seekers will be able to find work that pays them enough to take care of rent, food and medical.

If you return to communities in USA that arrived say 6 years ago, you will find that few of the menfolk are in work, and what work they did found during those years did not last and paid minimum.

I think my time will be better served elsewhere other than this thread ...... like wiping the kitten's backside.

FlyMeToTheMoonLiterally · 06/02/2017 16:15

Southall have fun wiping the kitten's backside.

I agree time is precious and it's being wasted, calling it a day.

Bureau of Labor stats says unemployment among foreign born nationals is lower than among US citizens.

^"The unemployment rate for foreign-born persons in the United States was 4.9 percent in 2015, down
from 5.6 percent in 2014, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The jobless rate of native-
born persons fell to 5.4 percent from 6.3 percent in the prior year."^

But some WILL become doctors and surgeons (surgeons are drs by the way) so how is that tiresome? You find the truth tiresome? How like Trump you are!

ivykaty44 · 06/02/2017 18:34

south unfortunately your level of knowledge isn't light years ahead of other people on here, that maybe the problem, you think you know more but the reality is very different. It most probably why you throw so many silly insults around as your arguments are flawed. Similarly with the decoy about other threads.

Megatherium · 06/02/2017 18:35

Southall, do you seriously believe that Trump has any concern at all about the safety of US citizens? Surely if he did he would not have taken steps to relax gun controls?

FlyMeToTheMoonLiterally · 06/02/2017 18:53

More than 15000 doctors have been blocked by Trump's travel ban

We just need to get on with accepting he's now the 'figure head' leader of the free world. As seen over the past few days some of his crazy schemes will be immediately put to bed by his own people.

I actually think it's quite good to have someone who is willing to open dialogue with other complete dicks like Putin.

I think perhaps the Chinese or Japanese who rocked up for dinner with the queen a short while ago are far more dangerous than trump, Those crazy guys have awhile load of nodding dog yes men behind them whereas Trump has a whole load of hoops to jump through to get things going.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 06/02/2017 19:03

The Japanese who rocked up for dinner?

wow.

FlyMeToTheMoonLiterally · 06/02/2017 19:06

This is for the benefit of other people to read, it's not a reply to you Southall as I can't reason with you

Foreign-born physicians have become crucial to the delivery of medical care in the United States. They work in small towns where there are no other doctors, in poor urban neighborhoods and in Veterans Affairs hospitals.

Forty-two percent of office visits in rural America are with foreign-born physicians, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians. Foreign-born physicians “are the doctors in small towns in Maine and Iowa,” said Dr. Patricia F. Walker, the associate director of the University of Minnesota’s Global Health Pathway, which helps refugee doctors practice in the United States. “They go to the places where graduates of Harvard Medical School don’t want to go,” she said.

Across the United States, more than 15,000 doctors are from the seven Muslim-majority countries covered by the travel ban, according to Medicus, a firm that recruits doctors for hard-to-fill jobs. That includes almost 9,000 from Iran, almost 3,500 from Syria and more than 1,500 from Iraq.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 06/02/2017 19:06

It's certainly self-confident to think anyone would listen to your political views when you can't even be arsed to differentiate between Japan and china.

FlyMeToTheMoonLiterally · 06/02/2017 19:13

The United States has a persistent doctor shortage, despite the fact that 31 new medical schools have opened since 2002 and many existing ones have increased class sizes, according to Merritt Hawkins, a Dallas-based medical recruiting firm.

It also noted that there are 22 percent more residencies available each year than there are American graduates to take them. Graduates of foreign medical schools now fill that gap; the largest number come from India, followed by Pakistan, China, the Philippines, Iran and Israel.
