to wonder what planet the 'ban Trump from the UK' people are living on

Yes I understand that he's a sexist, racist, whatever-else-ist.

But he evidently thinks fondly of the UK, we are currently in the process of saying 'fuck off' to mainland Europe, so we will be a small, friendless island in the North Sea in need of some help.

AIBU to think that we need to suffer a bit of schmoozing from dodgy foreign leaders as part of post-Brexit Britain? (Actually didn't we already schmooze dodgy foreign leaders long before Brexit?)

And in reality Trump is rather less dodgy than the average world leader, if we exclude the EU, as we have done

What are the other choices?

The planet I leave on is a rather wonderful one, thanks, that sustains many life forms and I want to keep it that way - Trump and fellow megalomaniac Putin, as well as Isis are major threats to this planet.
Trump is not "fond" of the UK - and what he wants is lots of little economies and nations that he can screw over. By leaving Europe the U.K. Is playing right into his hands.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 03/02/2017 12:48

So is southallgirl well old then?

I always thought she sounded late twenties early thirties

Guess how old i am

Go on, go on, go on

IAmNotAUserNumber · 03/02/2017 12:50

No, he's not fascist. Ultimately he's trying to reduce the number of real fascists with disgraceful beliefs entering the US. Those that still are not convinced that burying a woman up to her neck and stoning her is all that wrong; or sewing up women's private parts, or inculcating young people to become suicide bombers. You know, that sort of important stuff .......
Except Trump doesn't give a shit about human rights atrocities when they occur in other countries on a domestic scale. Ecause if he did he would be taking action against Saudi et al.

53rdAndBird · 03/02/2017 13:08

I think southallgirl is defining 'fascist' as 'most evil people currently on planet', so of course Trump won't seem a 'real' fascist next to ISIS. (Going by that definition then Mussolini and Oswald Mosley wouldn't have been fascists either, but hey ho.)

If you go with the definition of fascism as an actual political philosophy, though, then yes Trump seems pretty fascist at the moment.

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 03/02/2017 13:09

You mean the Syrian refugees trying to save their children from being blown up by bombs?
Or the Saudis who actually do all those things you hate so much, and were also responsible for 9/11?

Lets see, which ones are banned and which ones are ok because of PussyGrabbers business interests? Does he have any shitty hotels in Syria? Shame, less children might die there if he did.

He's a fucking facist that is all about the cash.

Trump is a businessman, not a politician, and he will run America like a business.

As such, actions which directly benefit America will be permitted, actions that have little or no benefit to America will cease. He said it twice in his inauguration "America first. America first."

I believe he meant it.

It will be an interesting presidency, certainly different to what's been before, but then I think those who voted for Trump voted for change over Clinton's status quo.

I find myself agog!

FlyMeToTheMoonLiterally · 03/02/2017 13:32

You agitating on behalf of those who hold diabolical beliefs to be allowed in is stupendously stupid. They hate America and Americans, and the reason they are fleeing their countries is not because they disagree with inequality and desire to become inclusive. Jeez, you don't really believe that do you? It's not just Daesh et al who hold extremist views that are contrary to the West's. That fight is between the two main sects of that faith, but the beliefs-attitudes-prejudices of ordinary people from that part of the world remain; their outlook is totally different, and privately they would be shocked at yours.

Absolutely disgusting to dehumanise people running from persecution and moreover completely ignorant.

Read this article about Iran to educate yourself:

www.huffingtonpost.com/jamsheed-k-choksy/entry-ban-dont-punish-irans-citizens-and-iranian-americans-punish-irans-government_b_14515844.html

Take home point:

"Whereas approximately 1,500 Iranians entered the U.S. annually between 1950 and 1977, mainly as students, 65 percent have arrived since the Islamic Revolution of 1978-79. They come for freedom from social, political, and religious oppression rather than financial gain and especially not to undermine American values, stability, and security. Moreover, loathing the fanaticism and militancy of Iran’s post-revolution leaders, Iranian visitors and Iranian-American permanent residents and citizens harken back to their cultured heritage by calling themselves “Persians.”"

"Iranians within the U.S. are rarely associated with acts of terror. One case emphasizes how exceptional terrorism is among the community here: a single Iranian-American citizen was sentenced to 25 years for plotting in 2011 to assassinate the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Washington. Another 2 dozen or so Iranians have been convicted for violating sanctions imposed by the U.S. against Iran. Indeed refugees and other immigrants and visitors are only a miniscule risk to public safety as demonstrated by data collected by the Cato Institute" - www.cato.org/publications/policy-analysis/terrorism-immigration-risk-analysis#full

You need to educate yourself before you spread fear and hate. Disgusting. These people have been born in a country where democracy and free speech was not allowed. They have fled their homelands to find this, In Iran more than 60 percent of the population was born after the Islamic Revolution. The vast majority come to the US because they think it is the land of dreams. You really need to understand the PEOPLE and not mix them with the GOVERNMENT. Disgraceful.

Actions which will directly benefit HIM and people like HIM will be permitted, actions that have little or no benefit to him and people like him will cease. HIS America first, with himself first of all.

American women, american gays, american muslims, american poor people, he doesn't give a flying shite about any of them. American Rich White Men First, is what he meant to say.

53rdAndBird · 03/02/2017 13:55

If he's running America like one of his own businesses, then I hope they're making preparations for bankruptcy.

Talks about 'fake' news - let's just invent a massacre

www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/38853850/did-donald-trump-adviser-kellyanne-conway-just-invent-a-massacre

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 03/02/2017 14:28

Yes, I suspect he takes an entirely fiscal view Narky. He wants to "Make America Great Again" and talks of getting people back to work, primarily in the energy industry, so my guess is he wants to cut America's reliance on imported fossil fuel and make the US self sufficient.

The American "business plan" mindset is a selfish one by default. For example, if you ran a business and were aware that a rival business in the next town were struggling financially and treated their staff really badly, would you bail them out so they could keep trading, and would you offer to employ their staff yourself at your own cost? Or would you place your business and your families needs above the failing rival company? People don't become billionaires by accident 53rdandbird.

Looking at it this way, Trump's actions become more predictable. Hopefully any trade deal we strike with America will be mutually beneficial, it's ridiculous to imagine we'll get anything that isn't scewed in their favour, special relationship or not, like I say, Trump's mantra is "America first".

53rdAndBird · 03/02/2017 15:17

People don't become billionaires by accident 53rdandbird.

He inherited massive amounts of wealth from his father.

Slarti · 03/02/2017 15:21

Funny how all the Brexiteers were happy to stick two fingers up at our biggest trading partners whom they claimed were undemocratic tyrants, but now are horrified at the idea of standing up to a racist, misogynistic bully who has flouted the constitution and the law, threatened other nations, wants to pull out of international agreements and dismantle NATO. Mind you, since they wanted Teresa the Appeaser to flout our own laws and circumvent our own democratic parliamentary procedures it shouldn't really surprise me.

53rdAndBird · 03/02/2017 15:30

Oh, and 'America First' is not a straightforward slogan about the national good. It has a long history in the US - the "America First" committee of the 1940s (non-interventionists in the Second World War with a lot of anti-Semitic nationalist feeling), the "America First" party of the 2000s (very right-wing nutcases who opposed state education and believed in the New World Order). The KKK claimed it as their slogan for a while.

If mainstream politicians started campaigning for "Britain First" over here, we'd look at them with suspicion.

ivykaty44 · 03/02/2017 15:39

Do you know if anyone has actually found out how much of his inherited money trump has lost? All
It would be interesting to know how much the fortune has diminished as it certainly hasn't grown

I would be doubtful of the word business man to describe this man who inherited a fortune and hasn't actually added to it.

His father may have built up a fortune and trump is living on this illusion

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 03/02/2017 15:47

That is precisely how Pres.PussyGrabber became a billionaire, by accident of birth. Given that he clearly has the IQ of an alsatian, he wouldn't have become one any other way, even in America. Unless he won the Lotto.

deblet · 03/02/2017 16:21

To be honest Op I wonder why they bother to March and Petition at all He won't care, our government won't care normal people like me don't care. If I was to March it would be over more important things than Trump whi is lets face it an easy target the sheep can all follow. The millions of people killed or raped in the Democratic Republic of Congo for example, the forced marriages in Britain and across the world by that oh so lovely and kind religion, girls mutilated by female circumcision across the world and in Britain I could go on and on. But no some fat orange bloke bans a few countries from travelling to the US for 90 days and the world gets enraged. I despair.

Lweji · 03/02/2017 16:27

But no some fat orange bloke bans a few countries from travelling to the US for 90 days and the world gets enraged. I despair.

You seem to have missed that people who had green cards and had already been living there were turned away.
People already with visas. People who had risked their lives for the US and had sold everything to move to the US.

Even the ex-PM of Norway was grilled for hours because he had an Iranian stamp on his diplomatic passport. FFS
Five year olds were separated from their families.
Babies were left without food.

That's what people are protesting about.

Lweji · 03/02/2017 16:29

PussyGrabber became a billionaire, by accident of birth. Given that he clearly has the IQ of an alsatian, he wouldn't have become one any other way, even in America.

And a small loan of 1 million dollars from his daddy.

deblet · 03/02/2017 16:35

Lweji None of those things warrant the hysteria which has ensued. Yes they are annoying and should make people angry but none of them are in jail just took longer to process. Nowhere near the other problems in the world not even close.

Lweji · 03/02/2017 16:37

If you look up how dictatorships start, you'll see it's not hysteria.
They start because people like you think these are minor issues.

FlyMeToTheMoonLiterally · 03/02/2017 16:46

deblet The problem is that this ban normalises a hatred for PEOPLE from those countries - not religious extremists, not governments run by dictators - but PEOPLE - and diverse societies of people at that, did you know that because these countries are Muslim majorities they do not 'recognise' secularism - that means everyone is registered as Muslim, no matter what their true beliefs, why should people desperately seeking freedom suffer? And why should they be tarnished with the same brush as their oppressors? Because they were unlucky enough to be born in the wrong country???
