Theresa May - opinions

So over the weekend so so many decent people spoke out about Trump and the Travel Ban from countries with largely Muslim populations (though not those where he has business deals or hotels)..... I'm furious with the actions of the UK PM who instead of standing firm for values and morals seems to be cosying up to this monster and trying to get trade deals going..... is it me or does anyone else think if the UK had remained in the EU - we'd now have David Cameron joining the voices of the sane to condemn Trump. Is this what the UK has now become...... I've seen tweets of all the anti Trump visit marches and am so proud of those people getting out to have their voices heard...... and the online petition..... again British people standing up like they have done so many times before. Does anyone else think also that Theresa May is leading this country down the wrong path and that in this instance regardless of what you think about Brexit it would be better for us to be in the EU? Didn't Cameron warn of this also?

God, could you imagine, Jeremy Corbyn and Trump in the same room. he'd likely piss his pants in fright!

Do you think he wears big boy pants? Tough times like these need a strong woman at the helm Grin

Farage is the reason for Trump's State Visit invitation.

This is May's Government, the one that some people are impressed with, kowtowing, yet again, to Farage.

Well this is the problem she has. Like it or not, Uk is a democracy. If she doesn't Brexit hard enough to keep Brexiteers happy, and with a massive power vacuum where Labour should be, there's a huge risk that UKIP starts picking up more support. It's the age old problem. Do you stay in a policy box and hope voters come to you (Jeremy) or shift to accommodate voter sentiment (Tony)

I am not surprised that Theresa May is standing hand in hand with Trump at all....... they both love to divide and conquer, setting citizen against citizen to feather their and their cohorts nests. Cameron was the same and I think he would have jumped at being friends with Trump.

To completely sweep a petition that over 1 million have signed to downgrade Trumps state visit under the carpet is totally ignorant and against the values I was brought up with.

Really????? IMHO no he wouldn't, he has stood his own ground against both May and Cameron in PMQs when neither were capable of answering a straight question resorting to playground tactics.

I love this.
When the government for once in it's life did listened to voters and le tpeople make a decision, we ended up with Brexit,
Then there were accusations that ''the government shouldn't have listened to the people''
'''The People' don't have the intelligence to make big decisions''

Now, all of a sudden, because it suits,
You want the Government to listen to what the people are 'saying'?

Confused

To jeopardize a trade deal with America just because someone is worried that the Queen might be embarrassed is ignorant. The Queen is the most experienced monarch we have ever had and wont be phased in the slightest at meeting a misogynistic president.

One million signatures means around fifty million aren't bothered.

I think she's in a very difficult position, and I wouldn't want to be in her shoes.

However, surely there was no need to go cosying up to Trump right this very inappropriate moment. And I'm dismayed she seems to be leading us towards a hard Brexit when surely a soft Brexit would be more appropriate given the marginal nature of the Leave victory, and the myriad problems Brexit is going to cause the UK.

I'm not totally clear on what trade deal anyone thinks we're going to get with the US.

Does 'America first' not suggest to people that Trump doesn't give a flying one about the UK?

And even if he is champing at the bit to trade more with us, a) what are we going to sell them that we don't already and b) won't he want a deal that's great for America and screw what it does to the UK?

IMHO it is not a case of when it suits that the government should listen to the people it is a case of they should listen to the people all the time.
I was a staunch remain voter in the referendum and am extremely disappointed at the outcome (all be it by a very small margin). Do I shout and throw my dummy out of the pram? NO I just live in hope that the best is done to benefit all of the British population not just the chosen few.

Theresa May is no different from any other Tory. Hates the poor and vulnerable, hates NI, Wales, Scotland, wants to make the rich richer and fuck society in the process. She probably sucked Trump's greasy little dick last week. If DavCam hadn't resigned he would have too.

As an aside has anyone ever heard her answer a question? It's almost as if she and her Cabinet have a book going. Prize is probably a nice fat cigar.

I think Teresa May has Trumps measure and is doing the age old trick of letting the misogynistic sexist dinosaur think hes got one over on her as she does all the simpering and smiling bit - whilst secretly plotting to take his knees out! And she will do it I have no doubt! I bet she was cringing when his fleshy sweaty paws were holding her hands - eeuuurrggghhh!

She's one tough cookie, The Queen and not the type of person to wimp out of meeting him.
I think she's old enough and wise enough to know that sometimes when there's a job to do, it won't always be something you like doing, but you just have to grow a pair, rise above it and get on with things.

She's doing well for the UK - her first concern.

She is intelligent and a very good politician. She's placed herself and the UK well.

She's rising above the insignificant, immature and churlish protesters.

If we brexit we have to trade with USA.
Or we don't export stuff and our economy goes to shit.
She has no choice
Those of you who voted for brexit voted for this.

Teresa has zero power over Trump. There are copious posts on here about how she is in a difficult position because we need a trade deal with Trump. Obviously, the Trump government knows how completely desperate the Tory government are too so can play the UK completely to their advantage. Except that we have virtually nothing to offer them. Except privatisation of the NHS of course.

Since when did membership of the EU mean that we couldn't trade with the US?

I don't remember this forming the backbone of the Leave campaign.

I'm very suspicious when no one has been able to article exactly why membership of the EU is a Bad Thing beyond "take back control".

I am not aware of Theresa May explaining what it is we can do once we leave the EU that we couldn't already do as a country Hmm

Report
Believeitornot · 31/01/2017 17:18

What will we be trading with when it comes to the US?

Trump wants "America First". Why would he trade with us...

What do we export as a country? We have little to offer the US.

I really despair at the naivety, I really do.
