Many of the same countries ban entry for people from Israel or who have ever been to Israel.

Didn't realise you had to live somewhere to criticise its policies?

Guess we should all reserve judgement on North Korea then.

Bambambini · 31/01/2017 15:14

Yes butvlets face it, I've seen time and time again - folk who can only criticise one side, totally blame one side - and it's much more complicated than "the israelis are the big evil oppressors". A stance that hat does no side any good - especially the Palestinians.

thewholeplacestinks · 31/01/2017 16:34

i don't 'claim' to have lived there, i did live live there. arab israelis have more civil rights than if they lived in another arab country including not having to hide their sexuality if they are gay. They don't have to do their stint in the army however plenty volunteer to do so. that old mn jolly hockey stick of accusing a poster of lying just to cancel anything the poster has said Grin. there are plenty of palastinians who have fled to israel although you don't hear about them. a friend teaches english there in a school and a fair few are palestinians. i think the palestinians and israelis could actually quite easily live well side by side although the leaders both sides of the fence are stopping this from happening. problem is that most people over here with opinions about how awful israel is (and plenty of what they have done does stink), their source of information (media/online) never shares any of the negative stuff done on the other side of the fence. people believe what they are told/read esepcially if it is constantly fed to them

Derlei · 31/01/2017 18:56

Thewholeplace- are you deluded?? Hardly anybody talks about Israel and their dubious conduct in real life! How often do you see the right wing media bashing Israelis compared to Palestinians!? I'm neither Muslim or Jew but I have definitely seen less negative press on Israel compared to the rest of the Middle East, I guarantee if you open your front door and ask 10 random people the same question they would say the same!

StrawberryMummy90 · 31/01/2017 19:22

How are trump and his cronies anti-Semitic?

Trump is very pro Israel and pro Jewish as far as I have seen..perhaps I'm missing something??

StrawberryMummy90 · 31/01/2017 19:26

Thewholeplace, I'm sorry but that is rubbish I've seen plenty of negative press about Palestinians. What Israel has done/is doing is so bloody awful it's not about the media brainwashing us, it's what is happening.

merrymouse · 31/01/2017 19:29

Weirdly trump is trying to tread that delicate line between being very pro right wing Israeli policy (pro settlements) and generally anti-semitic (support from KKK, minimising Jews in holocaust). Being a bigot is tricky. Sometimes you have to manage a bit of cross over, particularly when you are trying to appeal to different interest groups.

I have been there and agree that Israeli people are no different to any others, just normal people who don't deserve to be banned from somewhere because of where they're from.

But although there are some Arab israelis, i disgaree they have equal right to Jewish citizens in israel - is that what you're suggesting? Or that Palestinians can "flee" to Israel and stay there?

Incidentally I've been to the West Bank too and most Palestinians I met were also lovely. Rarely can people be stereotyped due to where they're from.

StrawberryMummy90 · 31/01/2017 19:48

The KKK supports him because he is a racist. I was just surprised because some posters were so adamant his government was anti-Semitic almost as though it's constantly in our face (like it is with his islamophobia) and I haven't seen that, quite the opposite in fact.

thewholeplacestinks · 31/01/2017 19:51

palastinians can't easily flee to israel but some do get in, as in any war situation people fine a way. as for israeli arabs having a better life in israel, do your home work and read about it online. there are villages in israel (can't remember what they are called) where israeli jews & muslims live happily together. It is a joy to behold. in response to other responses, i was at no point suggesting that israel gets more of a bad rap than the middle east. i never ONCE said that, i was talking about israel/palestine. for me in rl i only ever hear people slagging israel off whilst hamas behaviour seems to be ignored. must be the circles i mix in...there is plenty i don't like about the people that rule israel AND palestine. there is nothing i would love more than for the two to find a peaceful way to co-exist. the negative press is not about the palestinian people as i see it but more about the people representing them

Hygellig · 31/01/2017 19:53

This speech by George Deek, an Arab-Israeli diplomat, is well worth a read.

Arab-Israelis (or Palestinian citizens of Israel/Palestinians with Israeli citizenship; not to be confused with Palestinians in the West Bank or Gaza who do not have Israeli citizenship) make up around 20% of the population of Israel.

sonyaya · 31/01/2017 19:53

thatwholeplacestinks

I didn't ask about arabs having a better life in israel than they would elsewhere. I asked if you think they are treated equally within Israel as compared with Jewish citizens.

Hygellig · 31/01/2017 20:06

According to this Guardian article about the politician Haneen Zoabi, "about 20% of Israeli citizens are Palestinian, who have nominally equal rights but face institutionalised discrimination – for example, in funding for schools (which are segregated between Jews and Palestinians in Israel) and in public sector jobs."

Neve Shalom is the Jewish-Arab peace village.

Think twin towers!.
If i lived in USA i would like to know my safety was been put before all other considerations
..............
We do not have a right to go where ever we want when ever we want, that is why a lot of people in this country voted out of the EU.
Borders are there for a purpose, or at least they used to be, look how that worked out for Germany, not so clever now.

Vicky maybe if the actual terrorists who have attacked USA were from any of the countries on the banned ist it might make a modicom of sense but as they weren't nearly all of them were from other countries (not including the 'home grown ones') NOT on the banned list, Saudi Arabia is top of the 'terrorist' list but it isnt there, but wait... USA and Trumpy have business interests in these countries ...

What about the people stuck abroad who have not been able to get home to other countries i.e GB as they are not allowed to even get off one plane and get on another in USA , what about the green card, dual nationality, working and paying mortgage/rent/tax Americans who are stuck in another country and there for cannot work and pay their mortgages/rent/tax for 3 sodding months? Are they going to come 'home' to their home being repossessed, evictions?

FFS Americans kill more Americans with guns each year than any terrorist ever has!
Funnily enough I dont see them rushing to do anything about that.

Oh yes, this ban is making everyone so much safer. Really raising the moral of everyone in Mosul. Not at all being used as ISIS propaganda. All those Iraqis who are risking their lives in the fight against ISIS completely understand that Trump just wants to protect decent Americans from nasty green card holding terrorists. In fact, people in Mosul sleep more easily knowing that people in Iowa are safe from the Iraqi people, if perhaps not from gun wielding toddlers.
