Wedding menu - help me decide!

peroxidebrown · 13/01/2017 20:14

I have to choose my wedding menu and I'm struggling- please help! We have had a tasting and narrowed it down to three options for each. Veggie already decided.

Starters
Pumpkin and butternut squash soup with a Stilton biscuit
Smoked salmon on rye bred
Duck terrine

Main
Duck breast with duck leg confit
Sea bass
Lamb cutlets

Dessert
Chocolate mousse
Clementine cheesecake
Cheese board

DP says he doesn't mind and my head is going round in circles so I think whatever appeals to most people is best. We aren't having children at the wedding and it's a mix of people our age (30s) and a few elderly relatives too.

I don't like smoked salmon either. Soup, lamb, cheesecake for me.
I think quite a few people would be a bit hmmm about seabass but there again I do move in plebian circles.

Pallini · 14/01/2017 14:17

Duck
Lamb
Cheesecake

IWantATardis · 14/01/2017 14:17

OhTheRoses I've met a few people who won't touch fish at all, or will only touch fish in the form of fish fingers / fish and chips.

No idea how common that is though.

Prettybaffled · 14/01/2017 14:18

I think your idea of salmon, lamb, mousse is good.

I would not like soup at a wedding - mess and duck terrine might not be for some.

For mains I think fish is risky as so many don't like it and duck isn't completely main stream in some circles! So lamb is best.

Then mousse is a no brained - I would have this as much more popular than cheese.

FannyUmbongo · 14/01/2017 14:19

What's the veggie starter?

tangerino · 14/01/2017 14:24

I think with things like this, you really have to consider your friends rather than people online. Threads like this always have people saying that lots of people won't eat X, Y or Z, but almost everyone I know eats everything (allergies/vegetarianism aside). I've never met anyone who wouldn't eat fish, for example (apart from vegetarians, obv).

I'd be happy with anything but best would be smoked salmon, lamb, choc. I'd avoid the soup as I think hot soups are quite filling for a starter.

Spikeyball · 14/01/2017 14:27

I would give the guests a choice of (list 3 courses) or (vegetarian- don't list courses). This will stop people thinking they can mix and match.

ChubbyMummy12 · 14/01/2017 14:28

Salmon
Sea bass
Mousse.

But I'm fussy and don't like lamb or duck

JunoMilo · 14/01/2017 14:37

Salmon
Duck
Chocolate Mousse

Would not touch the lamb or stilton biscuit. Soup at wedding is boring and cheese board is nice but would rather have 'traditional' dessert.

FrankAndBeans · 14/01/2017 14:51

I hate smoked salmon. I'd have to swap to the veggie menu. Will you be telling people what's on first?

gunsandbanjos · 14/01/2017 15:13

Soup
Duck
Cheese or mousse

I don't eat fish but will eat virtually anything else.

I love duck, yum!

gunsandbanjos · 14/01/2017 15:14

Ohtheroses I eat no fish, I know several other people who don't either.

ZouBisou · 14/01/2017 15:22

Whats so awful about a stilton biscuit, out of interest?

andintothefire · 14/01/2017 15:28

Totally agree with this. My social circle is mostly made up of people who would eat anything on the menu and be used to formal dinners or weddings where things like smoked salmon / lamb / duck are served as part of a set menu. My family will also generally eat anything. The quality of the food would be most important, rather than the particular meat or fish.

Having said that, I can imagine one or two people not being keen on smoked salmon. Have you considered serving everybody the vegetarian starter? Personally I would quite like a lighter starter with a duck or lamb main course (which would rule out the terrine), and other people have pointed out the possible difficulties with soup (although it sounds delicious). I also think it is nice to have as many courses as possible where vegetarians are having the same food as everybody else.

Katedotness1963 · 14/01/2017 15:29

I don't like blue cheese or smoked food so no starter.
Main, maybe the lamb but couldn't eat it if it was bleeding.
I don't eat dessert.

user1471560343 · 14/01/2017 15:48

Salmon
Lamb
Cheesecake

user1484317265 · 14/01/2017 16:06

however wouldn't it be preferable that people actually enjoyed the food?

From the answers, a lot of people don't seem to enjoy food at all, they wouldn't be so unbearably picky if they did.

As for "most people hate smoked salmon"...most? Not in my universe!

Yamadori · 14/01/2017 16:13

Soup
Lamb
Cheesecake

DearMrDilkington · 14/01/2017 16:16

Soup
Duck
& Any of the desserts sound lovely.Grin

DearMrDilkington · 14/01/2017 16:17

Btw your menu sounds amazing, the only thing I wouldn't eat is salmon as I hate fish. The rest sounds beautiful thoughGrin

Whatthefoxgoingon · 14/01/2017 16:20

Duck
Lamb
Mousse

I'm not fussy though, a host's dream guest as very little I won't eat!

louisejxxx · 14/01/2017 16:23

I'd just have the chocolate mousse, I don't like any of the starters or mains...but I'm a fussy cow.

#nothelpful

ZouBisou · 14/01/2017 16:26

But isn't it a bit dramatic to say you wouldn't touch it? It's not actual blue cheese, it's a biscuit with blue cheese as a flavouring, it might well be very subtle and just taste like a generally cheesy biscuit.

Purplebluebird · 14/01/2017 16:26

Starters

  1. option Pumpkin and butternut squash soup with a Stilton biscuit
  2. option Smoked salmon on rye bred

Main

  1. Option Lamb cutlets

Dessert

  1. Option Chocolate mousse
  2. Option Cheese board
JunoMilo · 14/01/2017 16:30

ZouBisou I really and truly hate any kind of blue cheese. To me it smells like sick. Hence would definitely not be eating it. I only have three things on my could not even force myself to eat to be polite list: lamb, raisins/currants and blue cheese. Anything else I either like or would have if invited somewhere.
