Wedding menu - help me decide!

peroxidebrown · 13/01/2017 20:14

I have to choose my wedding menu and I'm struggling- please help! We have had a tasting and narrowed it down to three options for each. Veggie already decided.

Starters
Pumpkin and butternut squash soup with a Stilton biscuit
Smoked salmon on rye bred
Duck terrine

Main
Duck breast with duck leg confit
Sea bass
Lamb cutlets

Dessert
Chocolate mousse
Clementine cheesecake
Cheese board

DP says he doesn't mind and my head is going round in circles so I think whatever appeals to most people is best. We aren't having children at the wedding and it's a mix of people our age (30s) and a few elderly relatives too.

I'm not a fussy eater. And I wouldn't make a big deal about it, but I wouldn't enjoy that meal.

It all comes down to whether you are prioritising a meal that you enjoy, or a meal that the majority of your guests will enjoy.

TiredMumToTwo · 14/01/2017 16:39

Soup
Duck
Mousse

User12174567 · 14/01/2017 16:43

You might end up with fussy eaters like myself as well as those not into fish or duck. I'd go with;
Pumpkin and butternut squash soup with a Stilton biscuit
Lamb cutlets
Chocolate mousse

Thecontentedcat · 14/01/2017 16:46

Soup
Lamb
Chocolate mousse

But it all sounds delicious!
The lamb will be good in March

Scattymere · 14/01/2017 17:02

I organise weddings and can 100% say:

Smoked salmon on rye bred

Duck breast with duck leg confit

Clementine cheesecake

TaliDiNozzo · 14/01/2017 17:08

Your vegetarian option sounds lovely - what's the starter?

Chocolate mousse is a good option for dessert I think.

I would be careful with your main options as they can all be a bit polarising. I'm sure people would be very polite about it on the day but I'm not sure they are terribly sensible options when you're catering for a large number of people. Chicken may seem boring but it's safe so perhaps something to consider.

Scattymere · 14/01/2017 17:11

agree with tali beef or chicken as main would be a safer bet,or maybe a pie?

morningafterglow · 14/01/2017 17:52

I am (and hate being) a fussy eater. I would absolutely never let on to the hosts of any event about this, but would have to waste (or force down whilst hating) some of these options out of politeness.

Your OP stated " I think whatever appeals to most people is best" but your choices don't support that. Either you go down the "Im paying for it and I'll choose what I like best" route or you play it safer to make it a more enjoyable meal for the maximum number of people.

Your day your choice.

And Confused at the poster who said chicken and duck are basically the same as they are both birds.

Andro · 14/01/2017 17:55

Salmon
Lamb
Chocolate mousse

I'm allergic to cheese.

zukiecat · 14/01/2017 18:00

This won't be any help to you but there is absolutely nothing on there that I would eat

I am very fussy though and I don't expect anyone to cater just for me

Luckily for me at the two weddings I've attended in the past 20 years have both had roast beef for the main

Moresaltedcaramel · 14/01/2017 18:18

Salmon
Duck
Cheesecake
Yum!

worriedmum100 · 14/01/2017 18:28

This is not remotely helpful but the best wedding food I've had has tended to be big platters of sharing type food. So one wedding I attended had a huge joint of beef served at each table which someone at the table carved. Came with a simple green salad and massive bowl of delicious rosemary and garlic roast potatoes. That was it. Starter was a big platter of antipasti with good bread. Was less formal than a "plated" wedding meal and made for a good icebreaker round the table.

Anyway- I love food and would be happy to be served any of your menu - I'm a cheese freak though so would always welcome that more than a pudding. If it was my wedding I'd probably pay extra to have cheese as well. But then most of my family and friends also love cheese. PP made a good point about you knowing best what kind of food your friends and family will like.

Ideally it would be possible to give people options but if you can't you can't. You're never going to please everyone.

Is there an evening buffet? Fussy buggers will have to fill up later! Wink

happymumof4crazykids · 14/01/2017 18:32

I would pick the soup, lamb and cheesecake. Duck is so hit and miss!

CleverQuacks · 14/01/2017 18:34

Please go for the chocolate mousse or cheesecake for dessert. I would be so disappointed to be served cheese instead! A sweet dessert is the best bit of any meal!

Scholes34 · 14/01/2017 18:37

Ducks are what you see on the river, not on your dinner plate!

Yankeedoodledickhead · 14/01/2017 18:42

Ducks are what you see on the river, not on your dinner plate

This is the most stupid thing I've ever seen on here.

Scholes34 · 14/01/2017 19:04

No it's not.

worriedmum100 · 14/01/2017 19:06

You could apply that to anything though.

A cow is what you see in a field and not on your plate

A tomato is what you see growing on a vine not on your plate...etc ad infinitum...Confused

Tubbyinthehottub · 14/01/2017 19:12

My DH would have to force those mains down. Beef or chicken are safer options I think. I'm veggie so I'd be fine and I'd choose soup and cheesecake.

BarbarianMum · 14/01/2017 20:11

Well, if nothing else, this thread has given me a lightbulb moment about why I've been fed so many chicken breast based meals at English weddings. Mmm, bland. Grin

IWantATardis · 14/01/2017 20:55

Ducks are very tasty.

Much tastier than chicken.

DangerousBeanz · 14/01/2017 20:57

Soup
Duck
Chocolate.

Pringle2628 · 14/01/2017 20:58

Duck
Lamb
Chocolate mousse

Menu sounds beautiful! X

oleoleoleole · 14/01/2017 21:09

Salmon
Lamb
Chocolate

user1484317265 · 14/01/2017 21:16

Ducks are what you see on the river, not on your dinner plate

Not on yours maybe, meanwhile, at the grown ups table....
