Wedding menu - help me decide!

I have to choose my wedding menu and I'm struggling- please help! We have had a tasting and narrowed it down to three options for each. Veggie already decided.

Starters
Pumpkin and butternut squash soup with a Stilton biscuit
Smoked salmon on rye bred
Duck terrine

Main
Duck breast with duck leg confit
Sea bass
Lamb cutlets

Dessert
Chocolate mousse
Clementine cheesecake
Cheese board

DP says he doesn't mind and my head is going round in circles so I think whatever appeals to most people is best. We aren't having children at the wedding and it's a mix of people our age (30s) and a few elderly relatives too.

Soup
Duck
Chocolate

It also depends on time of year, I wouldn't necessarily have soup in summer.

MommaGee · 13/01/2017 20:22

Normally would pick duck for starter but I'd pick duck for main so would have soup
Chocolate mousse

FeckinCrutches · 13/01/2017 20:22

*may be

justdontevenfuckingstart · 13/01/2017 20:22

Sounds beautiful to me but I think people would maybe have a problem with both the duck and lamb being fatty and rich and if they don't like fish then are a bit stuck. Sounds fabulous to me tho.

bunnylove99 · 13/01/2017 20:22

It all sounds lovely to me but thinking of fussy people I would be inclined to play safe and go with the lamb for main course. I would avoid chocolate mousse in worry over raw eggs and go with cheesecake. Sweet toothed guests might be disappointed if the 3rd course isn't a dessert. I would pick soup if winter wedding and smoked salmon for summer wedding. I'm sure you will get plenty other opinions. Have a great day!

peroxidebrown · 13/01/2017 20:24

Beef was an option but was a huge price supplement so we didn't go with that and I though chicken may be a bit plain. Taking it on board though.

crutches cheesecake can often contain gelatine

peroxidebrown · 13/01/2017 20:24

Veggie main is roasted vegetable Mille feuille (not sure if that's spelt correctly).

Having a background in catering for big events I would say;

Soup would be a slower service than something that can be plated in advance so I would avoid that

Lamb I'd want pink and would worry about this being right so I'd avoid that too. However on the basis that lots of people don't like fish I think you'd have to go with duck BUT a chicken dish would be preferable imo.

Dessert for me would depend on how they're serving their cheese board and whether you're having speeches after dinner (in which case during cheese suits perfectly) or whether you're wanting to clear away ready for evening in which case I'd pick one of the other two desserts rather than cheese which is more a grazing type course

FrankAndBeans · 13/01/2017 20:25

Ooh that veggie option sounds amazing.

RortyCrankle · 13/01/2017 20:25

I wouldn't eat any of the starters and only lamb from the mains but I am horrendously fussy so you can safely ignore me but agree with morningafterglow about beef or chicken. Mousse or cheeseboard great for pud.

SparklyFuckingBusinessFairy · 13/01/2017 20:26

I would say that quite a few people don't like fish so prob better with a meat main course for the non veggies.

All sounds lovely though, and I say that as a veggie :)

HunterHearstHelmsley · 13/01/2017 20:26

Soup
Lamb
Cheesecake

I wouldn't eat the other starters or mains.

I think people would maybe have a problem with both the duck and lamb being fatty and rich and if they don't like fish then are a bit stuck

They aren't stuck, they are just fussy. If they won't eat duck or lamb or fish they need to not go to things like weddings cos they are too fussy to accomodate with normal choices.
What happened to just being a grown up who eats what is put in front of them and says thank you?

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 13/01/2017 20:28

Smoked Salmon, Seabass & Chocolate Mousse.
I'd love the lamb but know a fair few who can't stand it so it's a risky option & If duck isn't done right it's just horrible.

Katkin14 · 13/01/2017 20:28

It all sounds lovely, but I'd choose salmon, duck, mousse.

essieestherson · 13/01/2017 20:30

Salmon
Duck
Mousse
Wink

FeckinCrutches · 13/01/2017 20:30

Ah right, thanks SillyBub

blueteapot · 13/01/2017 20:30

CakeyMcCakey · 13/01/2017 20:32

Salmon, Lamb and Cheesecake.

Yum!

froomeonthebroom · 13/01/2017 20:32

Salmon, lamb, cheesecake.
DH says duck, lamb, mousse.

Yankeedoodledickhead · 13/01/2017 20:32

Terrine
Lamb
Cheesecake

LiefieLiefie · 13/01/2017 20:33

Soup
Duck
Cheesecake

Tanaqui · 13/01/2017 20:33

Not soup at a wedding, too likely to spill or splash in people's food clothes! I'd say salmon, duck, chocolate, but agree with others that chicken is more neutral. If you are tallying, make sure you don't end up with fish fish or duck duck!!

rhuhbarb4 · 13/01/2017 20:34

Smoked salmon, lamb cutlets, cheesecake they all sound delicious bar the soup.
