Wedding menu - help me decide!

peroxidebrown · 13/01/2017 20:14

I have to choose my wedding menu and I'm struggling- please help! We have had a tasting and narrowed it down to three options for each. Veggie already decided.

Starters
Pumpkin and butternut squash soup with a Stilton biscuit
Smoked salmon on rye bred
Duck terrine

Main
Duck breast with duck leg confit
Sea bass
Lamb cutlets

Dessert
Chocolate mousse
Clementine cheesecake
Cheese board

DP says he doesn't mind and my head is going round in circles so I think whatever appeals to most people is best. We aren't having children at the wedding and it's a mix of people our age (30s) and a few elderly relatives too.

Soup
Veggie
Cheese

I don't eat fish and the options I chose are the least bugger-uppable.

I think people like to see chicken on a menu because it's a safe bet.

UrethaFranklin · 13/01/2017 21:00

Soup
Lamb
Mousse or cheesecake

Would prefer chicken for a main as I don't really like any of the options you have listed but at a push I'd choose the lamb.

TheUpsideDown · 13/01/2017 21:02

Duck terrine
Sea bass
Cheesecake

Pixilicious · 13/01/2017 21:03

Soup
Lamb
Cheesecake

CoperCabana · 13/01/2017 21:04

I think I would ask if they can do a mini choc mousse dessert and then shared cheeseboards on each table.

Starter - salmon
Main - duck

Please can I come?

glueandstick · 13/01/2017 21:05

Duck lamb chocolate.

I'm starving now

CoperCabana · 13/01/2017 21:05

And agree that soup at a wedding is a no-no

Badgoushk · 13/01/2017 21:07

Soup
Duck
Chic mousse

Badgoushk · 13/01/2017 21:07

Choc

pringlecat · 13/01/2017 21:08

I would eat all of them quite happily!

The smoked salmon and/or duck terrine will be easier to serve quickly. Salmon being the "safer" choice.

The majority of your guests will probably love the lamb if cooked correctly, with a significant minority hating it. Lamb tends to divide people. The duck sounds lovely, but again, not everyone eats duck.

I think the mousse will be probably be the most popular desert.

Your shortlist isn't exactly made up of crowdpleasers so I'm assuming you don't particularly like generic, bland food. In which case, sod them - pick the three dishes that you and your OH like the best. With your choices, you're definitely not going to please everyone and I always think if no one else loves the food, at least the bride and groom should. It's your day.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 13/01/2017 21:09

Soup
Duck
Cheesecake

Is my invite in the post, OP? Grin

trufflepiggy · 13/01/2017 21:09

Soup
Sea bass
Chocolate mousse

saffronwblue · 13/01/2017 21:09

Salmon
Lamb (but you should look again at chicken for crowd appeal)
Choc mousse

thegirlinthecar · 13/01/2017 21:10

Duck
Lamb
Mousse

Everything else sounds lovely though . Except cheesecake

harderandharder2breathe · 13/01/2017 21:21

Soup, duck, mousse

MrsMoggy · 13/01/2017 21:21

Soup
Duck
Mousse

But I'd rather have the veggie option/chicken

AtleastitsnotMonday · 13/01/2017 21:39

Strongly dislike duck and lamb so would go soup, bass or veggie, cheese cake.
I'd play safe with chicken or beef or publish menu in advance and have the veggie option as a choice of main.

desperatehousewife2 · 13/01/2017 21:42

Duck, lamb, chocolate

EB123 · 13/01/2017 21:44

Soup
Veggie option/chicken
Mousse or cheesecake

ThoraGruntwhistle · 13/01/2017 21:46

I'd choose lamb and cheesecake but I wouldn't eat any of the starters. However, I'd have to vote for the soup because it's probably the one that would appeal to the majority of people.

nemno · 13/01/2017 21:49

Salmon
Duck
Cheesecake

TheNaze73 · 13/01/2017 21:49

Soup
Lamb
Mousse

And well done on not having chicken as an option. Grin

Dowser · 13/01/2017 21:53

Duck
Lamb
Cheese board

My daughter would have none of the mains.
And only soup and cheesecake.

There's a little t of people don't/ cant eat fish.

Dowser · 13/01/2017 22:01

Lot of people

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 13/01/2017 22:04

Duck, lamb, mousse.

Salmon probably safest starter, lamb safest main. I also agree about not having beef or chicken - I'm as bored of chicken as vegetarians probably are of onion and goat cheese tart.
