Wedding menu - help me decide!

peroxidebrown · 13/01/2017 20:14

I have to choose my wedding menu and I'm struggling- please help! We have had a tasting and narrowed it down to three options for each. Veggie already decided.

Starters
Pumpkin and butternut squash soup with a Stilton biscuit
Smoked salmon on rye bred
Duck terrine

Main
Duck breast with duck leg confit
Sea bass
Lamb cutlets

Dessert
Chocolate mousse
Clementine cheesecake
Cheese board

DP says he doesn't mind and my head is going round in circles so I think whatever appeals to most people is best. We aren't having children at the wedding and it's a mix of people our age (30s) and a few elderly relatives too.

Good clothes, not food clothes!

froomeonthebroom · 13/01/2017 20:34

Sorry, I mean DH says duck, lamb, cheeseboard, but says that he doesn't think you should serve a cheese board as the only dessert.

Dogivemeabreak · 13/01/2017 20:34

Salmon
Lamb
Mousse

SoftSheen · 13/01/2017 20:35

Have a chicken dish for the main course. Almost all non-vegetarians will eat chicken, whereas you can guarantee that there will be at least a few people who don't eat fish/red meat/duck. Moreover, lamb and duck should both be served pink, but some people will probably object to this, leading to more issues.

I hate being served soup at a wedding! I inevitability get it down my dress!

ShelaghTurner · 13/01/2017 20:44

Salmon, lamb, cheesecake. Sounds amazing.

hefzi · 13/01/2017 20:44

Whoever said that you can't mess up lamb has clearly never have it under- or over-done!

As this is banqueting, I'd go for smoked salmon (safe, plus easily plated in advance), chicken (again, a safe option) and, though clementine cheesecake was my mum's goto dinner party dessert in the 70s, cheesecake.

These wouldn't necessarily be what I'd choose for myself (I'm a veggie who always has cheese for desert where possible!) but the options I think you can count on most omnivores being willing to eat.

I don't eat lamb and know a few others who don't like it.

agree with others that beef or chicken would be better for a main.

MummaGiles · 13/01/2017 20:49

Soup/lamb/mousse or cheesecake

Jaimx86 · 13/01/2017 20:50

Salmon
Sea bass
Cheese board

Sounds amazing!

Turquoisetamborine · 13/01/2017 20:51

Soup
Sea bass
Choc mousse

Sidge · 13/01/2017 20:53

I'd want the:

Duck terrine
Sea bass
Cheesecake

But then I'd want cheese as well! I like something sweet and then some cheese to finish Grin

I think when you're catering for the masses chicken is a 'safer' option than duck, fish or lamb. Also chicken is harder to get wrong I think.

RuggerHug · 13/01/2017 20:55

I'm going with what bump said, whatever you want yourself, it's the most expensive meal you'll ever have so have something you enjoy Grin. Although I did know one bride who had a different meal to everyone else because 'I'm not eating that muck!' so I think just considering what others will like makes you lovely!!Smile

Newtothis2017 · 13/01/2017 20:57

Definitely salmon, lamb and cheese board.
Spring lamb is amazing. And if you are having a wedding cake then definitely a cheese board
